What is Public Policy?

Public policy sits at the intersection of law, political science, and governance, making it a central subject in courses on constitutional law, administrative law, and political theory. It encompasses the decisions, actions, and priorities that governments adopt to address societal challenges, from health care access to national security. What makes it academically compelling is the tension it reveals between competing interests—economic efficiency, social equity, individual rights, and institutional power—forcing students to think critically about how governments translate public problems into formal responses.

The papers archived on this topic reflect a wide range of analytical approaches. Many focus on specific policy areas such as health care, child welfare, and reproductive rights, using case-study methods to examine how particular issues move through the political system. Others take a comparative angle, looking at how different countries, including Sweden, structure their political policies. Some papers engage with theoretical frameworks such as social conflict theory to explain policy responses to phenomena like terrorism, while others examine procedural questions around policy making, public opinion, market failure, and participatory governance.

A strong essay on public policy begins with a clearly scoped thesis that identifies a specific policy problem, a governing body responsible for addressing it, and a measurable standard for evaluating success or failure. Evidence drawn from legislative records, government reports, and peer-reviewed policy analysis tends to carry the most weight. The most common pitfall is treating policy description as analysis—summarizing what a policy does without critically assessing why it was adopted, whose interests it serves, and what trade-offs it involves.

The Nurse-Family Partnership program and its long-term benefits
I am going to upload the directions. Please read them carefully and follow the rubric provided. PLEASE answer/cover each section specifically. If you need anything else or need clarification, don't hesitate to email me so we can be on the same page and there will be no need for resubmission. PLEASE do it right the first time because I ordered a 3 page NURSING paper before and it was done terribly. After paying ninety one dollars for the three pages, I had to write the paper all over again because I was afraid to ask for a rewrite and it might not be done right. I received a D on that paper because I wrote it so fast in order to meet the submission deadline. I am really, really crossing my fingers that the same thing won't happen again with this one because if it does, I have zero time to do anything as it is due on the day that I receive it. Finally, please be mindful of plagiarism. Thanks alot for all your help, I really appreciate it.

Terri Schiavo case: dignity versus autonomy in end-of-life decisions
The Terri Schiavo case was an unusual incident where a person who should have been removed from life support long ago was sustained due to federal and public intervention. The case instigates moral and ethical questions of decision to end life as well as the limits of autonomy in surrogate decision making. Torke et al (2008) argue that guardian judgment is often used as decision-making when a patient lacks the cognitive abilities to decide treatment for herself. Surrogate decision-making, however, has its own flaws and should be replaced by something more rational. Using the Terri Schiavo case as base, the following essay argues that the decision whether or not to prolong a patient's life (or indeed any decision revolving on an incumbent or cognitively disabled patient) should focus on the patient's dignity and individuality rather than on his or her autonomy.
