New Nurses and Managers: Organizational Analysis As the nursing profession evolves and rises to meet modern demands, we are faced with growing complexities in our profession and in our workplaces. During its nearly 150-year history, nursing has remained faithful to the dictates of professionalism. However, the profession has also evolved so significantly in terms of our responsibilities and the measures taken to fulfill them that Florence Nightingale would hardly recognize us. The profession constantly adopts and adapts to meet the needs of our patients and the community while remaining faithful to our vocation, and will continue to do so in order to meet the unfolding duties that we willingly accept.
