Although the work overall is an expose of the fast food industry, this chapter specifically focuses on the impact McDonald's has had in terms of shifting companies' focus to advertising to children. Thanks to the astonishing success of McDonald's Happy Meal campaigns, even products not designed for children often focus on the childhood 'nag factor' that influences adult purchasing patterns.

The research and mission reported by this article regards unique weather patterns occurring on Mars. According to data gathered by the Phoenix Mars lander and the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter data, there are clouds of water vapor on Mars and there is the only known stance of carbon dioxide snow falling in this solar system. The research on this phenomenon was first published in the Journal of Geophysical Research. The CO2 snowfalls occur in the southern hemisphere, around the pole during the winters on Mars. The data shows that carbon dioxide stays frozen on the Martian surface year round on the south pole. Most of the data analysis is performed at the California Institute Technology of Pasadena.

But something went terribly wrong along the way. This paper explores the details that led ultimately to the demise of the Ford Pinto – and to the deaths and injuries of innocent consumers. Why was the Pinto developed in the first place? Ford Motor Company was seeing strong competition from Volkswagen – and from other compact-style cars such as the Chevrolet Vega, AMC's Gremlin, the Dodge Colt and Plymouth Cricket – in the late 1960s, and the company wanted to get into that market. The television commercial that Ford produced opened up with a wide angle shot of a lush green open field. In that field is a very cute pinto colt that stands up a bit shakily.
