About This Topic

School as an academic topic sits at the intersection of education, psychology, sociology, and literature, making it relevant across a wide range of courses and disciplines. Students write about it in education programs, psychology classes, business schools, and humanities seminars alike. The topic is academically rich because it touches on institutional structure, human development, and social policy simultaneously. Papers engage with formal schooling at every level, from early childhood development through graduate programs such as the MBA, and they also treat school as a cultural and literary symbol found in works like Tobias Wolff's Old School, Molière's The School for Wives, and Raphael's The School of Athens.

The papers archived here take notably diverse approaches. Some are analytical and institutional, evaluating curricula using frameworks such as the Saylor, Alexander, and Lewis model, or conducting SWOT analyses of private university MBA programs. Others are empirical and psychological, examining how school-based mental health programs affect emotional intelligence or how test anxiety interacts with question sequence. Still others are personal and reflective, including self-change projects and career-focused writing. Literary and art-historical approaches also appear, treating school as a theme or setting worthy of close reading and cultural interpretation.

A strong essay on school succeeds by committing to a specific, manageable angle rather than treating education in the abstract. Whether the focus falls on teacher-student relationships, curriculum design, student mental health, or a literary portrayal of school life, the thesis should make a clear, arguable claim. Evidence drawn from program data, developmental research, or textual analysis carries more weight than broad generalizations. The most common pitfall is conflating the many meanings of "school" without defining which context — institutional, psychological, or cultural — the essay actually addresses.

The American Indian Movement: Role in the 1970s and contemporary issues
The poorest people in America are the American Indians and it is also a fact that Indian reservations have unique laws that has made it a nation by itself within the United States. The modern movements focus on the American Indian reservations being empowered by self-determination. This is important for the economic, social and cultural improvement of the American Indians. It was with the Nixon administration that the welfare of the tribes became the focus of the government. The subsequent administrations encouraged the Indians to adapt to a policy of political and economic self-determination. Today many reservations have become economic hubs with tax and regulation havens for investment. Thus as of now the Mescalero and White Mountain Apaches "have become premier private managers of multiple-use forest resource economies."

Substance Abuse Treatment Analysis of David Ruffin
Most people today probably recognize his signing voice from his hits such as "My Girl," but few may remember David Ruffin of The Temptations music group from the latter half of the 20th century. Like many of his contemporaries, Ruffin fell victim to the ravages of drug abuse during the height of his career, leaving his millions of fans with a musical void in their lives. To gain some further insights into his untimely death from an overdose of cocaine, this paper provides a review of the relevant peer-reviewed and scholarly literature to develop a background and an overview of Ruffin, his use of drugs, and an appropriate screening instrument that could be used to evaluate a similar client's stage of dependence, change or recovery. An application of this diagnostic tool to Ruffin's unique circumstances is followed by a discussion concerning possible placement options and treatment modalities for clients with Ruffin's diagnosis, and the rationale in support of their choice based upon a personal conceptualization and etiology of addiction. Finally, a summary of the research and important findings are presented in the conclusion.

Steinberg's Supermarkets: Family Business Succession Case Study
Steinberg's Success – Sam Steinberg (1905-1978), was a Canadian of Hungarian descent who transformed the grocery story founded by his mother Ida, into one of the largest chains in the Quebec, Steinberg's Supermarket. One of his key successes was helping to transform food retailing in the post-World War II era into mass merchandising, mechanization, and personnel management that fed into and exploited the bilingual nature of Quebec, and the Ontario. Sam had a unique ability to find optimal locations for his stores by using the old-fashioned technique of driving around the area, watching who drove where, who shopped where, and learning about the areas, then purchasing properties and building on sites he believed would service the public in the most expeditious manner. At the time of his death, Steinberg's was the largest supermarket chain in Quebec. Sam left a legacy of philanthropic ideas and causes, typically focused on the Jewish community. Disagreement among the daughters led to the sale of the family business in 1989, the name disappeared from the stores in 1992, but the family remains one of the wealthiest and most respected in Canada.
