political positions, committees he's on, his feelings on Medicare and Social Security. There are five references used.
Senator John Breaux is a conservative Southern Democrat from Louisiana. He is highly respected and considered perfect for aiding in bipartisan since he is friendly with both Democrats and epublicans.
Political Positions
Senator Breaux's political positions are similar to Dick Cheney's. He is pro-life, pro-gun and pro-big oil. He is known for being "the voice of the pragmatic, rational center on a variety of high-profile policy disputes -- Medicare, Social Security, tobacco, tax cuts (Cottle, 2001)."
He feels political compromise is extremely important. He is known for reaching beyond party lines, being able to cut political deals and knowing how to "split the difference (Cottle, 2001)."
An Offer
While the presidential race was still being decided in Florida, Senator Breaux kept reminding everyone to exhibit proper political behavior. When it looked like George…

Not only has Biden been accused of pilfering ideas, he may also have "inflated his academic record," (Harvey). Biden defends himself and denies any conscious attempt to steal others' ideas. Regarding his Syracuse Law School fiasco, Biden defends himself with ignorance, saying that he had no idea how to properly cite material as a "freshman" in law school. As Nokes points out, no first-year student in law school is a true freshman. By the time he matriculated at Syracuse, Biden had already graduated from the University of Delaware and should have been well aware of the academic standards for properly cited material and the strict rules against plagiarism.
In a blog post, a writer known as "cacambo" claims that Biden had intended to cite Kinnock in the 1987 speech and that "pretty tough to come across a political speech where the candidate doesn't quote or paraphrase someone else" without citing…

Tennessee senator, Bill Frist. The author of this paper discusses Frist's biography, political leanings and voting record on many important issues. There were three sources used to complete this paper.
epublican Senator Bill Frist, who is also the senate's majority leader, did not spend his life preparing for politics. While most of his counterparts spent their adult lives as attorneys or other careers that are geared toward the eventual entrance to the world of politics, Frist did not take that path. Businesses, especially small businesses, must often pay for benefits for their employees, and budding American entrepreneurs would not have this additional expense to worry about when starting an enterprise, under a single-payer system. Even huge companies like General Motors and Ford are suffering because of the lack of universal coverage for all Americans. One of the greatest drains upon both automotive companies' finances has been the extravagant benefits they promised to retired as well as its current workers, a drain upon profits that no corporation based in a country with 'socialized medicine' will have to suffer. Ironically, many companies that represent American capitalism are seeking to expand their operations in nations with single-payer healthcare systems to reduce labor costs, even if wages and taxes may be higher some of in nations, such as Canada.

As Nelson puts it, "I've asked the president to use money from leftover stimulus funds. . . I've also asked him to help minimize the job losses after the space shuttle is retired, in part, by transferring other NASA-related work to Cape Canaveral" ("U.S. Senator ill Nelson," Internet). Obviously, since Cape Canaveral is located in Florida, Senator Nelson is attempting to guarantee that the space program continues to help increase the financial coffers of the state, not to mention the creation of many jobs for those with expertise in the space sciences.
In 1986, Senator Nelson became the only member of the U.S. Congress to ever have flown in space and as a result is now a very outspoken advocate for space exploration. In 2001, Senator Nelson stated that the International Space Station is also of great importance, "Not the least of which. . . To support research activities in…

Senator Obama takes the high ground and shows that all the media accolades to his character and charisma are well earned. As time has passed since this incident, Senator Obama continues to show the qualities of true leadership; rising above the ignorance of Senator Biden and embracing the issues and focusing on what the nation needs in terms of solutions. The bottom line is that as the weeks pass after these comments by Senator Biden, time will show just how anachronistic his views of minorities are. One almost wants to remind Senator Biden to pause on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and remember the words "I Have a Dream" and realize the greatest strength in leaders come from words of service and unification, not division.

Senator Hall,
I hope that this letter finds you in good health as you continue to serve the state and the nation at large. The main purpose of this letter is to highlight the importance of the proposed S 821 bill, otherwise referred to as Brump Donald bill in Texas state. The Bill proposes a 1 cent tax on all foods that contain added salt being sold in stores and other outlets. I write in absolute support of the S 821 bill since once the bill goes through and is implemented, it is apparent that al the foods that contain added salts like processed cheese, processed meats, caned vegetables, chicken broth and soy sauce among others will significantly increase in price. The funds that shall be raised from the 1 cent increase will be channeled towards helping in the prevention programs dealing with cardiovascular diseases and childhood obesity. As an…
Dear Senator Richard Pan:
I have major concerns about AB-1512, the Opioid Prevention and Rehabilitation Act, which places a tax upon wholesalers who distribute of opioids within the state. First of all, I would like to say that as a registered nurse, I appreciate your experience as a physician and the way it informs your work as a California State Senator and as Chairman of the State Senate Health Committee. The intention of the law is to further discourage the prescription of opioids to patients as a matter of first recourse due to increased costs of the drug as a result of the tax. While I agree that the opioid epidemic must be dealt with, on the other hand, I have also seen many patients struggling with obtaining adequate pain relief. Such bills could further act as a disincentive to prescribe the drugs, given their high cost to patients, even…

Architect Timothy Pflueger, a renowned architect in the San Francisco Bay Area who designed many other impressive theaters, including the Castro Theater in San Francisco, the Paramount Theater in Oakland, and the Alameda Theater in Alameda, designed the original building. Dating back to 1927, the Senator Theater in Chico, California, is now a music venue for local and touring bands and other performances. It opened in 1927 as a vaudeville and movie theater, and owners have closed it several times throughout its history for renovation and because of poor performance. In the 1970s, the theater and film company, United Artists, bought the building and converted it into a two-screen movie theater by sectioning off the balcony and building a wall, and in the early 2000s, it was renovated again and returned to a single stage venue, when the wall was removed. About 1,000 standing spectators fit comfortably into the building today.
The theater is designed in the art deco style, quite popular in the 1920s, and it is significant for a number of reasons. First, old theaters like this are disappearing across America, and preserving one like this is important both architecturally and historically. There is a large mural inside the theater that is also artistically significant, and it has been restored by the present owners to its original appearance. There is also a beautiful large chandelier in the lobby of the theater.

Dear Senator McConnell:
I am writing to express my reaction to your four-year effort to ensure the failure of the presidential administration of President Barak Obama. First, let me say that I have never been a politically-oriented person; I am not even a registered voter. However, I have been monitoring news reports about the current state of the nation and of the disgraceful abuses of power exhibited by you and the other high-ranking members of your epublican Caucus. The manner in which you and your colleagues have reduced the U.S. Congress into a dysfunctional and ineffective Legislative Branch of our government (Grunwald, 2012) is the reason I am writing, the inspiration for this letter comes from my recent exposure to several pieces of 20th Century literature with which you might not be familiar. Copies of them…

The inability of the police to report crimes because of political purposes is disturbing. The fact that Mayor Bloomberg would try to make himself and his city look better by underreporting on crime is a very disingenuous type of leadership: it indicates that people should lie and falsify claims in order to make the situation look better than it is. This is not how communities are transformed for the better, however. The police have a duty to serve and protect, and if the community feels it is not being served by them or is being underserved (because their issues are not being reported—such as shootings, assaults, attempted rapes and so on) then why is the community going to trust the police or its leadership? By urging the police to not report on so many crimes, the Mayor is undermining his own authority as well as that of the police…
History Questions/Chap14
Senator Douglas created the Kansas and Nebraska territories as a way to appease both sides of the slavery issue, but this action resulted in increased tensions and hostility. Do you think the problems that resulted from creating these territories could have been prevented? If so, how? If not, why not?
The problems that resulted from the creation of the Kansas and Nebraska territories could not have been prevented because by 1854, the nation was already divided by the slavery question and tensions were high. There was more at stake than merely the question of whether or not blacks should be free and in fact for most people, on either side of the debate, personal and business interests were what really mattered, not the morality of making slaves out of fellow human beings.
As the United States expanded westward, controversy swirled as citizens debated whether new territories should be…

Considering how firmly McCain expresses his support for continuing the war in Iraq although under different command, it is clear that he represents a solution for the current situation. Our nation needs a leader with experience and that has the courage to make the toughest decisions in order to achieve victory. Although McCain has shown his support for the war against terrorism, he has also criticized the ability of President ush of conducting our troops. McCain comes with a different view of the war, with a different solution that will lead us to victory.
Senator John McCain is the most suitable political actor to become president in 2008 because he has shown commitment to his believes, he constantly fought against governmental spending and corporate interest even since the early 80s, and because he backs his believes all the way. He is a supporter of traditional moral values and he believes…

Rather than violating the rights of medical practitioners, is it not a better idea simply to break the trusts that make health care so unaffordable? I agree there should be real reform -- but we should not be satisfied with phony reform.
Rand Paul's policy on health care puts the issue in a singular light. First, he draws distinction between real health care reform and phony reform. Real reform, he states would emphasize free market economics and would allow consumers to buy health insurance from providers from a wider spectrum rather than from the artificially manipulate market that we see today. As Paul says, state and federal laws place restrictions and exactly who can buy what from where -- and this is the real heart of the problem because it allows health insurance companies to charge higher and higher premiums and places greater and greater restrictions and demands on medical…

Voter Through Congressional District esearch
The bipartisan structure which defines the American system of democratic governance is premised on the notion that informed voters, when provided with an opportunity to select their own leadership, will invariably alternate between candidates with whom they identify closely, and members of the opposing party who offer meaningful reform. This maxim of American politics has resulted in a pattern of Presidential ascendency whereby neither party has captured the White House in three consecutive elections since the four consecutive campaign victories notched by Franklin Delano oosevelt more than a half-century ago. Nonetheless, there are still pockets of provincial loyalty which still exist throughout the national electorate, with family histories and cultural touchstones serving to elevate one party above its competition in the hearts and minds of voters. In the second congressional district of Tennessee -- an area which spans the metropolitan borders of Knoxville, as well…

Frank Lautenberg's career may be described as "mostly Machiavellian" because of the way in which he used negative campaign ads early on in order to secure his hold on power, before shifting towards more outwardly benevolent means of maintaining that power. Taking Machiavelli's advice to commit all the cruelties one needs all at once, instead of piecemeal over a longer period, Lautenberg ran a vicious campaign against Pete Dawkins that relied almost exclusively on the former's ability to paint Dawkins as an opportunist and a charlatan, effectively using Dawkins' own robust resume against him. Having solidified his hold on power by winning his first reelection, Lautenberg proceeded to curry the favor of the two groups whose favor Machiavelli sees as necessary for ruling any participatory form of government, namely, the general populace and the corporate elite whose money ends up funding the majority of political activity in America. In this…

Ethical obligations allegedly breached by Smith or Halloran while in office
Senator Malcolm Smith and New York City Councilman Dan Halloran were accused of attempting to fix the mayoral ballot. They were allegedly reported having exchanged thousands of dollars in cash. This money was intended to pay off the officials of the epublican Party to agree to one of the Democrats, Smith on the GOP line. Halloran demonstrated clear ignorance as he walked into the evil bargain as the confidential witness dangled campaign funds for a personal interest bid. In the context of public ethics, the actions of Smith and Halloran raise questions their principles of justice, democratic society, and common good (Stensota, 2010).
Smith and Halloran must adhere to the principle of ethical policymaking. This principle requires that they hold one another accountable for what they know and value. As such, it draws…

In addition, Senator Collins led the fight to restore critical f funding to Medicare for home health care so that elderly citizens and disabled can receive needed care in their own homes ("Biography")."
Obviously the senator encourages the funding of both Medicaid and Medicare as she has fought to ensure that both are funded correctly. Collins was also a supporter of the stimulus package that improves healthcare information technology.
As it pertains to abortions Susan Collins is also pro-choice and believes in stem cell research. She is adamant about the right of a woman to choose just as Senator Kennedy. To protect themselves, many Americans chose to avoid working with or becoming friends with those who immigrated. A lack of trust permeated everything that the Americans did in regards to the immigrants, at least with the men. This was not always true of the women, as they often got along together and shared the trials and difficulties of raising families. However, many men who owned shops and stores would not hire an immigrant laborer (Glazer, 1998).
They believed that immigrants took jobs away from people in the U.S., and they did not want to catch any diseases that these immigrants might have brought with them. The general attitude during this time period was that immigrants were so different from Americans that they could never mesh into one society, but that attitude has obviously changed, as today America is a mix of all kinds of people (Glazer, 1998; Sowell, 1997).

Getting to Know Your Congressional Senators: Georgia
The state of Georgia is extremely diverse, encompassing highly rural areas as well as one of the region's major cities, that of Atlanta. The state, like many in the South, has historically leaned conservative in terms of its political affiliation. Its two senators are Republican, that of the senior senator John Isakson (who has served the state since 1996) and the junior senator David Perdue (who has served the state since 2014). Isakson has a strong conservative voting record on issues such as abortion, affirmative action, and same-sex marriage according to the nonpartisan website On the Issues. He also has a strong pro-business voting record. David Perdue has a similar voting record.
This homogeneity in and of its self is problematic for Georgia. This does not represent Georgia's full diversity as a state, particularly given its significant urban community (which draws both business…
Meanwhile in the journal Du Bois Review (Parker, et al., 2009, p. 194) the authors point to racism and patriotism as key themes for the 2008 Democratic primary election. "Race was a consistent narrative" used by those opposed to Obama, Parker explains (p. 194). Both Clinton and the Republicans "used racial references" to attack Obama, including the attacks on Obama "for his perceived inability to connect to 'real working Americans'" (p. 194).
The Republican sideshow called "Joe the plumber" attacked Obama with the charge that Obama was "seeking to take money from hardworking 'real Americans' to give it to 'those people'" (p. 194). Clinton questioned Obama's patriotism suggesting that he was not a "real" American. Parker notes that when Governor Dukakis ran for president as a Democrat, he was attacked but no one questioned whether he was "a real American as they did with Obama" (p. 195).
The authors present…

Congressional Senators
In my state of Kentucky, our Senators are Republican Mitch McConnell and Republican Rand Paul. Mitch McConnell is the Senate Majority Leader and may be considered an Establishment politician, as he has been in Congress since 1985 (Majority Leader, 2017). Rand Paul may be considered an outsider. He came into politics after his father Ron Paul began showing signs of exiting politics. The Tea Party wave and the Libertarian wave combined to win Rand Paul his seat. He is often viewed as the anti-Establishment candidate, as he often supports or opposes policies not on party lines but on moral lines that he assesses from a conservative or even Libertarian point of view. For instance, his opposition to the Saudi Arms Sales, recently signed by President Trump, has put him at odds with his party (Republicans) and in fact with most of the Establishment. For this reason, I support…
The session erupted in brawl, and in the end, the vote favored impeachment
. This became known as "loody Monday." This time, Long's bullying tactics did not work.
Long took his case to the people, claiming that his impeachment was a raucous attempt by Standard Oil to deprive the people of what they deserved. As the trial began, Long passed around "Round Robin" document that was signed by more than one -- third of the Senate members. The round robin document stated that they did not believe his offenses warranted removal from office
. As it takes an over two-thirds vote to remove him from office, the impeachment attempt failed. Long rewarded his faithful with state jobs, favors and some say cash as well
. Long became more harsh with his enemies, founding a newspaper to promote his ideas. Long began to receive death threats and was forced to surround…

Pinochet's Case is Not Yet Satisfying to Chilean and Human Rights Activists
Although hampered by internal constraints and challenges, the nation of Chile stands poised to enter the 21st century as a major player in the world's international community. On the one hand, the sound economic policies that were first implemented by the Pinochet dictatorship resulted in unprecedented growth in 1991- 1997; these policies have also helped secure the country's commitment to democratic and representative government. On the other hand, General Augusto Pinochet has been found guilty of the torture, disappearance, and murder of thousands of Chileans, including international citizens, but he has not yet been brought to justice. After Patricio Aylwin inaugurated a democratic presidency in 1990, he continues to bring excuses for Pinochet's actions or exercises control to avoid facing justice. Pinochet declared himself as Commander of Chief of the Army and afterwards, Senator for life in Chile.…

In Obama's "Issues" pull-down, he offers 11 links to issues that he has taken a stand on. One of them is "Healthcare System That orks." In that link Obama addresses AIDS, "Medical Information Technology," hospital "report cards," "Genetic Medicine," and "Protecting Children from Lead Poisoning." Undocumented tudents Equity to in-tate Tuition:
Reducing The Barriers
There exist policy ambiguities and variations at federal, state, and institutional levels related to undocumented student access to and success in higher education and this has created problems for these students. This study investigated specific policies and procedures to provide the resources and capital to assist undocumented students as well as reviewed key elements of showing the correlation of these difficulties with ethnic identity in access and equity to higher education that would help eliminate student's frustration. The study also illustrated that there is no accountability system surrounding the success of undocumented student's postsecondary education divide significant structure. Three research questions guided the study; a) Without the fundamental requirements met how will undocumented students achieve their goal to attain a degree, and seek a rewarding career? b) Is it unjust to extradite an illegal alien who has been living a constructive…

A rigid designator is a name which describes, refers to a thing in all the possible existing worlds. In addition it is important to underline that the designator does not refer to any other thing which exists in those other possible worlds where we know for sure that the thing under discussion does not exist. The regular proper names are a relevant examples to illustrate the concept of rigid designators.
The debate which takes place between Russell and Kripke has to do with the power of description that the names of the objects have as far as the objects they are associated to are concerned. As far as Russell is concerned, the names are nothing but disguised descriptions of the things. According to Kripke this is far from being true. A chair might be a called something else and still be a chair. The name in itself does not provide…
Cape Wind Project proposed for Cape Cod, and the political, economic, and social impacts to Cape Cod and Nantucket. The Cape Wind Project is a proposed wind-turbine project off the shoreline of Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Supporters of the project believe it is the right clean-air, renewable energy project for the area, and it will negate the need for an old, outdated fossil fuel electrical generating plant. Opponents believe it is the wrong project for the area, and it will reduce their quality of life, as well as block local fishermen from their livelihoods. Controversial and very public, the project has been debated since 2001, and it still has not begun construction.
I am David McCullough, author and historian, and I live full time on Cape Cod. I am adamantly opposed to the Cape Wind project for a number of compelling reasons. First and foremost, in my mind, is that…

If the construction and building industries are encouraged to develop, manufacture, and use cutting-edge next generation materials for all new developments, our country will fast become one of the most progressive in the world.
For now, though, the United States is sorely lagging behind countries in Europe and also Japan in stimulating growth in the green building sector. I appreciate your efforts in offering extended tax credits for green homes and also for protecting the tax credits offered in the previous version of the Snowe-Feinstein Extend Act. Encouraging research and development of renewable energy resources is one of the most important things Americans can invest in.
I have personally seen how stimulating green energy via the marketplace is the best means to curb the climate crisis. Several family members and friends of the family have invested in green homes and green building industries. Their investments have since paid off and…
56th President of the United States which has represents an unprecedented race in the American Democratic Party between Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. he relationship of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton's leadership styles from the perspective of four distinct variables: gender, culture, trust and likelihood of voting. he author believes that the perception of fairness is the single most essential leadership trait which leaders should acquire in order to garner trust and commitment among voters. Consequently, the author also believes that this also applies to leadership in the business world.
he article conducts a literature review that focuses on different aspects of leadership. here is some controversy in the study of leadership as the author alludes to. here are several research studies that show that there is empirical evidence to suggest that leaders play a critical part in an organization working toward organizational goals. However, some of works have…
The article continues to illustrate various components of leadership and how they are presented in the literature with Obama's and Clinton's leadership styles and campaign messages as the focal point. For example, the article mentions that Barack Obama's winning Democratic Party Nominee Elections campaign, his change message in particular, was far superior in 2008 from an ethical standpoint. This seems to be a fairly loaded assumption that is difficult to test empirically.
He contrasts Clinton's campaign as a more top down approach based on her political life that allowed her to mingle constantly with the political elite. By contrast, Obama's career formed from a more bottom up approach in he worked as a community organizer in Chicago. It is noted that transformational leadership can be facilitated by the level of trust in the leader. Therefore, based on these criteria, it is assumed that Obama's level of trust based on his bottom up career development would be higher and more legitimate among the populace. Although this seems like a reasonable statement, it is still highly speculative without any empirical analysis being conducted on the two candidates.
The actual experiment works to test some of the hypotheses that were generated in the literature review. The independent and dependent variables were measured with a survey that used the Likert Scale to measure responses. The study concludes that the leadership styles of Obama and Clinton are striking different. Barack Obama was perceived as a transformational leader while Clinton was perceived more as a transactional leader. Although I intuitively agree with the study's findings, the evidence that is presented is subject to some skepticism. There are a plethora of limitations that the study had to overcome to be able to test the hypothesis. One obvious one was the sample size. Another limitation that the author alludes to is the cultural variables of the sample which oversimplifies culture into either East or West categories as opposed to more specific geographies. Although I found the article interesting, I'm not sure that it adds significant value to the study of leadership.
Vermont's Junior Senator, Bernard Sanders introduced to the Senate the Stop Outsourcing Security Act S. 2398. The Stop Outsourcing Security Act will help solve the lack of oversight of contractors in Iraq by requiring that by June 2008, "the President shall submit to each specified congressional committee a report on the status of planning for the transition away from the use of private contractors for mission critical or emergency essential functions by January 1, 2009, in all conflict zones in which Congress has authorized the use of force" (s 2398). This bill will examine contractor activities and ensure that renewals will only happen if the president certifies that contractors have undergone background checks and are clear of any crimes that could lead to additional problems with their work in the future. It will also allow congress to have access to information of private military companies including, the number of persons…

Clinton's platform is currently relying very heavily upon the idea of helping the middle class. Her campaign bus is currently touring Iowa with a slogan of "The Middle Class Express." The innate need to not let any person or any entity overpower the rights that have been given will allow for a balance of power that will in the end work to produce a functioning government.
In excerpt 5, as posited by Madison, he states that the reason why a stable and structured government is necessary in the first place is because men are always hungry for more power. When given just a little bit of governance over a bigger crowd of people, they will naturally want more, as they see their way as being the right way, and the only way in which problems could be solved. But because men are inclined to want aspects to turn out in ways where their best interests are in mind and where they come out best in the end, a necessary system needs to be implemented to make sure that one branch…

I also need to know the length of time that I have scheduled to speak since professional research conventions usually allocate 10 minutes to 90 minutes for a presentation. If only a short time, I may be advised to present highlights and to give handouts of my presentation. Visual images also facilitate the learning. I will need to build in time for question and discussions.
With each audience, I should consider their specific interests and structure the speech accordingly. With non-health laypeople, for instance, I can structure it to the challenges of dealing with relations with dementia and the kind of characteristics they should look for in caregivers as well s ways that can give them less stress and give their patients more comfort in dealing with them. I should also present it in a creative way in order to make it more interesting.

Senator Mark Udall
Western Slope Office
400 Rood Ave. Suite
Grand Junction, Colorado 81501
Good day Senator Mark Udall,
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. The subject of this letter is the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act. This act is currently up for review in the legislature. I write this letter to show my support for this act. It is a bill that I hope will be enacted as a law. Health care could not be more of a hot topic in the United States at this time. The state of the economy and the availability of jobs is just as much of an issue that is at the forefront of the American press. Passing the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act would be of great help to the American people in a few ways.

Juniors of my old high school,
It has been a great pleasure to receive your letter and notice such a keen interest in economics and politics at your early age. The fact that you are already following the evolution of the presidential race and that you are asking questions about it show a great desire to learn and find out new things. I will be more than happy to share some economics pointers with you that, hopefully, will be able to fully answer some of your dilemmas.
You have clearly notice what the economic trends are for the two candidates. Indeed, Republicans, and George W. ush is no exception in this sense, have always boasted the importance of the individual and of non-governmental intervention in the market. On the other hand, the Democrats believed that not only could the government regulate some of the less efficient economic processes on the…

Soda Tax in California
The issue of soda tax, or the implementation of rules that guide the soft drinks industry in terms of guiding the consumer on the content of the soda which often is at the expense of the manufacturer, is not new to California. New York City had a similar bill that was passed but later on shelved due to a court ruling that favored the soft drinks manufacturers who pressed for a ruling out of the directive as unconstitutional. There were three consecutive appeals that failed hence the hopes for that regulation that banned sale of big size bottles of soda among other regulations seem to fizzle out flat (Matias C., 2014).
It is the same spirit as that of Bloomberg in New York that state senator Bill Monning has put forth a proposal that would require the sugary drinks for instance the sports drinks that are…

NYS Policy Issue Briefing

The issue addressed by the creation and mission statement of the NYS Council on Food Policy is the encroachment of a multitude of factors on the food supply for the state of New York.
The objective is to stabilize and sustain the sources to sufficiently feed the stae of New York.
The policy attempts to do this by bettering the delivery and production of food for the state.
It also seeks to do this by provisioning healthy food throughout the state.
This is a fairly longstanding issues that the state has been dealing with for some time. It addressed this issue at the government level in the latter decades of the 20th century. Its solution was to create the governmental entity referred to as the NYS Council on Food Policy. This solution involves numerous disparate organizations for th sake of deciding policy…
Stimulus Bill Political Communication
Political Communication during the Stimulus Bill Debate
In times of economic uncertainty and national emergency, the government has the capacity to make decisions that it believes will aid the country in its time of need. Such a time of need occurred in 2009 when the country continued to face an existence of dire economic circumstances involving national cash-flow and jobs. In order to set economic recovery into motion, President Obama called for the passing of the American ecovery and einvestment Act of 2009 (AA), otherwise regarded as the stimulus bill. While such a bill was considered pivotal by many government officials in order to get the country back on its feet, crucial differences in policy and bill structure could be viewed in assessing the opinions Democrats and epublicans brought to the floor in terms of the bill's passing. In understanding the basis of the bill itself,…

This led to shareholders losing confidence and stringent laws was felt necessary in the form of new legislation to avoid repetition of Enron and Worldcom like incidents. The then President George W. Bush entrusted Senator Paul Sarbanes and Congressman Mike Oxley to come up with stringent new laws which would arrest or at least diminish probability of corporate scandals from repeating which came to be known as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, of 1992. History has shown that freedom is not inherently a part of society, rather it is something fought hard for and won. When countries fight for freedom, when people rise for liberty, they do so because they feel they must. Whether it is a strict government, a deranged dictator, or a highly religious society, people have seen their freedoms limited to varying degrees. The United States has been built upon the idea that freedom should be a basic right. While the country has seen its fair share of battles, with itself and with outsiders, it has maintained this very ideal throughout its history.
What is freedom and liberty? Why is it so important that people would risk their lives to maintain certain freedoms? To begin analysis of these two words, I will present my own definition of freedom and liberty followed by how others define these two words. First and foremost,…
4 trillion and $3.6 trillion, an impressive boost to the U.S. economy in those years, the IPC explains. A study conducted by Arizona State University determined that when a person has a bachelor's degree that person earns about $750,000 more over the course of a lifetime of earning than a person with just a high school diploma earns.
The data from that study indicates that as of 2006, those working without a high school diploma earned approximately $419 per week and had an unemployment rate of 6.8%, the IPC explains. Those with a bachelor's degree earned approximately $962 per seek and their rate of unemployment was only 2.3%; over their careers college graduates earn "in excels of 60% more than a high school graduate, and workers with advanced degrees earn two to three times as much as high school graduates" (IPC, p. 2).

17th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified in 1913. It altered the way in which Senators of the Congress were elected. Previously, under Article 1 of the Constitution, it was the state legislature's responsibility to elect senators to Congress. ith the 17th Amendment, however, the voting power was placed directly into the hands of the public. The Amendment also provided a way for states to allow governors to fill vacancies in their state's appointed seats in Congress by temporarily appointing a senator until a time in which a special election could be conducted.
The text of the Amendment states specifically that "two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years" shall be the manner in which senators are now voted into office. This effectively made the process of electing senators more democratic and less representational, in the sense that that the voting public had the…

When Kennedy first arrived at the U.S. Senate as a "Cold War liberal," he almost immediately took sides with northern Democrats which helped him to ride "the liberal high tide of the Kennedy-Johnson years" between 1963 and 1968 (Selfa, 2009, Internet). During these years, a time when America was facing some very serious political and social problems, Senator Kennedy stood firmly behind President John F. Kennedy (his eldest living brother in 1963) and then supported the creation of Medicare and Medicaid, the Civil ights Act of 1964-1965, the Voting ights Act and President Johnson's so-called "war on poverty" in the mid to late 1960's. Clearly, there appears to be some form of bias in Kennedy's outright support and defense of these and other governmental programs and acts, due to the fact that most epublicans, especially those from the Deep South, were firmly against what is now referred to as socialized…

The U.S. Debate over Membership in the League of Nations
After the end of orld ar I, the world was weary of war and the ravages that it had taken on the European continent and it would seem reasonable to suggest that policymakers on both sides of the Atlantic would be eager to form some type of league to resolve future conflicts. According to Margulies (1998), "Following the signing of the Treaty of Versailles at the Paris Peace Conference in June 1919, where he played a major role in negotiating that treaty, which established the League of Nations, President oodrow ilson turned his attention to persuading the U.S. Senate to ratify the new treaty" (273). The Senate of the 66th Congress was almost equally divided between the Republican Party with 49 and the Democrats who fielded 47 senators (Marguilies). Although the president could rely on the majority of the Democrats…

The third secondary source we will look at here is Kaiser (2009). Kaiser argues that money has corroded the electoral process in the United States. He gives statistical data on the rising cost of political campaigns as an indication of how money's importance has grown in the last several decades. If the campaigns of all the candidates for President, the House, and the Senate cost less than a billion dollars in 1976, in 2000 it was $2.8 billion (even if adjusted to the inflation), while in 2004 it was $4.2 billion. "This steady increase appears now to be a permanent fixture of our politics," he says (p. 290). Kaiser also gives examples of how money spent by individuals allowed them to win seats in the House or the Senate. For example, John Corzine, a retired investment banker and a Democrat, won a Senate seat from New Jersey in 2000…

Artistic Expression
A comedian named Tommy Smothers, member of the Smother's Brothers comedy team and target of a battle over censorship, once said "The only valid censorship of ideas is the right of people not to listen." (Smothers) This notion also applies to watching, and viewing artistic expression as well. hile some in the United States have tried to impose their view of morality upon the nation through the censoring of what they consider "objectionable," others have fought back to maintain the right of free expression. In 1989, there was a case where a sitting Senator objected to the subject of a work of art that was awarded a government grant. This Senator wrote to the president complaining about the National Endowment for the Arts and it's support of this particular artist. In response the artist defiantly defended his right of artistic expression and warned of the dangers of censorship.…

United States Constitution concentrates on. It will address how it treated the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation and the complaints in the Declaration of Independence.
How the Constitution Deals with Weaknesses in the Articles of Confederation
One key factor that has helped keep the constitution of the United States alive is the processes involved in its amendment. These processes require 2/3 majority votes from the two houses of Congress or by every state legislature. The Articles of Confederation could not be changed easily because a unanimous vote required from each of the states. As the number of the sates in the United States increased from 13 to 50, it would have been almost impossible to change the articles. No judicial system was provided for the United States by the Articles of Confederation.
In the same way, Congress lacked the legal power to enforce any laws (Morelock, n.d). Each of…

Another related type of argument is to assert how he became interested in the various facets of politics that he made an impact on. For example, as a result of a plane crash and convalescing, he writes, "I realized that access to health care was a moral issue" (Kennedy 225). In other words, the way that he develops his political interest is determined by his personal experience. His view on the Vietnam War changed after an interview trip there. He uses this personal experience as the foundation for the ideas that he talks about, and it is convincing as a result. This argument from experience convinces the reader that Kennedy was authentic. Kennedy also includes many historical facts, which only adds support to his experience. ecause he was so involved, his interpretation of the facts is persuasive.

It did not help matters that Johnson was photographed being sworn into office aboard the plane bringing the body of Kennedy back to ashington, D.C., with Kennedy's widow, and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, who was still wearing the suit stained with her husband's blood. Many people, right or wrong, took the photo as a statement by Mrs. Kennedy; even though she remained a close friend of Johnson's wife, Lady Bird, all of the years of their lives.
For his part, President Johnson placed the work of the investigation of the Kennedy assassination into the hands of the arren Commission, and then he went about the work of creating his Great Society (Eavns and Novak, 2). If the assassination of Kennedy weighed on the minds of the people, it was no less troubling for the man from Texas who followed Kennedy. Johnson commented: "They say Jack Kennedy had style, but I'm…

In the New York Times on March 13, 2007, it is reported that Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel has decided not to run for the presidency on the Republican ticket. Although the senator was not in a financial position to compete against better-funded candidates - and his position against continuing the Iraq war might find favor with voters - Senator John McCain thought that Hagel could have made inroads. The New York Times reported on March 22 that New York State legislators have set next February 5, 2008, as the date for their presidential primary.
In the Los Angeles Times (January 25, 2007) it was reported that U.S. Senator John Kerry had decided not to make another run for the White House. Kerry was apparently not "position well" in contrast to some of the other Democratic candidates, and additionally, he said he wants to put "my energy to work as part of the majority in the Senate...to end this war." An editorial in the Wall Street Journal on April 3, 2007, reported that the Commission on Presidential Debates should create a presidential debate system whereby final presidential candidates from both parties would debate "at least once a week" from Labor Day to the November election. Another Wall Street Journal article (April 2, 2007) explains that Senator Hillary Clinton is the current top fundraiser among Democratic candidates for president.

Qualification and Selection
In every case, both New Jersey's and exas' courts strive to achieve one thing: justice. o achieve justice, our courts must be independent, open and impartial. o selection and qualification process must therefore be very strenuous in order to elect the best candidates. Both New Jersey and exas are no exception to this occurrence. In many instances the qualification process and selection process are very similar. In other aspects however, they diverge greatly. his document is designed to provide a brief overview of both the New Jersey and exas qualification and selection processes.
Methods and Selection of New Jersey Judges
Supreme Court Justices, Superior Court Judges and ax Court Judges
he New Jersey Constitution determines how people become Supreme Court justices or Superior Court or ax Court judges. Under this process, the Governor nominates a person to be a justice or a judge. he Governor submits the…
There are two interesting features of judicial selection in New Jersey. The first is the practice of senatorial courtesy. Like U.S. senators, New Jersey's senators have veto-like powers over judicial appointees from their home districts. As a professional courtesy, other senators will not proceed with confirmation of a judicial candidate unless the senators from the home district have signed off. Texas does not have this senatorial courtesy. Instead, senators will often proceed with the confirmation with the blessing of the home district senator. Until 1994, senators had been able to hold up judicial reappointments as well, but a widely criticized incident led the senate to change the rules of reappointments so that they are now considered by the senate judiciary committee without receiving the approval of the home senator (Supreme Court of New Jersey, 2013).
New Jersey's courts also have a tradition of political balance. Governors, regardless of their party affiliation, have generally followed a policy of replacing outgoing judges with someone of the same party or philosophy. On the Supreme Court, the traditional balance is three Democrats and three Republicans, with the chief justice belonging to the party of the appointing governor. This balance provides a bipartisan approach to both legislation and though processes. This balance approach, limits the possibility of having large party initiatives pushed through the legislative process without first having adequate oversight. The balanced approached is primarily useful during periods of political turmoil or upheaval. During these instances, there is a tendency for both legislation and citizenry to disproportionally blame one party relative to the other. Therefore, elected officials during these periods reflect not the skill and ability to enact proper legislation, but instead the general distaste for the other party. As such, a balanced approached helps to mitigate many of the irrational emotions in the market. Judicial nominating commissions are not used to screen judicial candidates in New Jersey.
One of the stated goals of New Jersey's judicial performance program is to enhance the process for reappointing judges. Attorneys evaluate judges before whom they have participated in actual cases, and appellate judges evaluate trial court judges when their rulings are appealed. Results of the evaluation are shared with the evaluated judge, the assignment judge, the Supreme Court, the governor, the senate judiciary committee, and the judicial evaluation commission. This process allows judges to view their strengths and opportunities relative to other peer judges. It also provides a means in which judges can view, share, and discuss divergent beliefs and opinions to foster a better law system overall. The Supreme Court appoints the members of the judicial performance committee and designates the committee chair. At least six members must be superior court judges who represent each of the divisions of the court, at least three members must be attorneys, and at least two members must be representatives of the general public. Committee members serve three-year terms and may
Pressure on the superior vena cava may produce SVC syndrome, a swelling of the head and arms. SVC syndrome involving the brain can be fatal and must be treated immediately. But enlarged lymphatic tissue in the chest cavity generally tends to displace -- rather than press upon or encase -- adjacent structures. Therefore, compromised breathing and SVC syndrome are relatively uncommon signs of lymphoma. (Hodgkin's Disease, 1998-2008)
Effects on Bone Marrow
Night sweats, fevers or anemia (a low red-blood-cell count), fevers may indicate Hodgkin's disease has spread to an individual's bone marrow. In these scenarios, a physician may order bone marrow aspiration and biopsy. In biopsy, medical staff uses a large needle to remove a narrow, cylindrical piece of the patient's bone. In another option, medical staff performs an aspiration, a process utilizing a needle to remove small bits of bone marrow. Generally, in both instances, to help determine cancer…
