What is Social Network?

Social networks—both as digital platforms and as broader systems of human connection—appear across disciplines including communication studies, sociology, business, computer science, and media studies. The topic draws academic attention because it sits at the intersection of technology, behavior, and culture. Courses in business strategy examine how platforms like Facebook are built and monetized, while courses in media and society explore how these tools reshape communication, identity, and community. The development of Facebook in particular has become a reference point for understanding how a company moves from a startup concept to a publicly traded corporation, making it relevant to entrepreneurship, ethics, and technology policy alike.

The papers archived on this topic take several distinct approaches. Some analyze Facebook's development as a business case, tracing how the company was built, how it generated revenue, and how it reached an IPO. Others focus on social and ethical dimensions, examining issues of privacy, legal accountability, and online reputation. A number of papers look at real-world impact, particularly the effects of social media on younger generations and on specific communities. Comparative and cultural angles also appear, including how social relations vary across groups and how organizations have historically shaped community bonds.

A strong essay on social networks needs a focused thesis that commits to one dimension—business, ethical, social, or cultural—rather than attempting to cover all at once. Evidence from documented company histories, policy discussions, or clearly argued social analysis carries the most weight in academic contexts. The most common pitfall is treating the topic too broadly; grounding the argument in specific, concrete examples keeps the essay analytically sharp and avoids surface-level generalizations.

Income, Social Status, and the Determinants of Health
Since the 1990's, a very important body of research (Marmot and Wilkinson, 1999; Wilkinson and Marmot, 2001; Berkman and Kawachi, 2000) has emerged about the determinants of health. Evidence has been systematically collected about how path- ways through societal, political, environmental and economic determinants become translated into illness and disease, and how social conditions and settings in which people live their lives not only influence how they behave, but also have a direct impact on their health. The social determinants approach seeks to address the social dimensions of health and illness that arise at the level of populations. Thus it is a population health approach, concerned with improving the health of whole populations or specific sub-groups of the population. It aims to reduce inequities through policies, programs, research and interventions that are designed to support, protect and enhance health (Keleher and Murphy, 2004a).

Facebook, Social Media, and College Student Interpersonal Relationships
The rate at which information is shared in today's world is very different than just a few years ago. More and more, individuals, particularly college students are living both in the "real" world and in the virtual world provided by the internet, Facebook and other social media sites. There is a concern, raised by some, that because of the use of advanced technology, young people are no longer engaging in traditional forms of social capital or interpersonal engagement.

Performance reviews across generational demographics on social networks
Performance evaluations are rapidly becoming anachronistic and unnecessary, and often counterproductive, given how rapidly organizations are changing over time. There are many arguments for relying on annual or even quarterly performance reviews (Wilbanks, 2011). In reality, the external environment is changing so rapidly that many companies are having trouble keeping up not just with their competitors, but their customers as well. The concept of developing a performance review process is predicated on a relative level of stability over the long-term (Messmer, 2004). Yet if there is a single, resonating message from the last five years of economic turmoil, it is that the economy, its effects on spending and investment, and growth are all more unpredictable than ever. In addition to the massive amount of turbulence from an economic standpoint, there is also the challenge of keeping up to date with current company strategy, which in many organizations has been known to shift quickly to capitalize on opportunities while mitigating threats. Pay-for-performance performance reviews don't work in this context, as the initial objectives at the beginning of a financial period may be completely irrelevant at the end (Wilkerson, 1995). Further amplifying this problem is that the best employees are often not coin-operated or driven by money, they are motivated by having a very strong role in the future of the business. Transformational leadership is what propels the highest performers to continually strive to excel at their roles in an organization and gain autonomy, mastery and purpose of their jobs (Krishnan, 2004). Top performers concentrate on how they are performing relative to their own internal standards, and with excellent leadership those expectations can be defined (Krishnan, 2004). No amount of external pressure can make this happen, it has to be the decision of the employee to work.

Effective classroom management and instructional time allocation strategies
Class room management holds extreme importance in the process of teaching. It is mandatory for a teacher to manage her class effectively in order to achieve her predetermined instructional goals. ‘Successful classroom management involves much more than rules and discipline. Indeed research into classroom management demonstrates that effective teachers are proactive about student behavior, and they involve students in the process of establishing and maintaining rules and routines'. (Strong, 2007) An effective instructional is dependent on various factors, and a properly managed classroom is definitely one of those factors.
