What is Treatment?

Treatment is a foundational concept in medicine and health sciences, examined across courses in clinical medicine, pharmacology, psychiatry, public health, ethics, and social work. It sits at the intersection of biological understanding and human care, requiring students to engage not only with how conditions are identified and managed but also with the values and systems that shape those decisions. The topic spans a wide range of conditions — from neurological disorders such as bipolar disorder and multiple sclerosis to concerns in orthodontics, addiction, and neonatal care — making it relevant across nearly every medical subdiscipline. Its academic interest lies in the tension between evidence-based practice and the ethical, legal, and social dimensions that influence how patients receive care.

Student papers on this topic approach treatment from several distinct angles. Ethical analyses examine questions such as religious refusal of medical treatment, the treatment of prisoners, and decision-making for impaired infants. Historical and comparative approaches appear in work covering the treatment of German POWs by Americans during World War II. Clinical and scientific papers focus on drug-receptor interactions, symptom management, diagnosis, and the effectiveness of non-traditional therapies. Policy and systems perspectives surface in discussions of emergency response technologies and the role of social workers in addiction treatment.

A strong essay on treatment needs a clearly bounded thesis — specifying the condition, population, and evaluative lens rather than treating the subject broadly. Evidence drawn from clinical case studies, peer-reviewed journals, and documented patient outcomes carries the most weight. The most common pitfall is conflating different types of treatment without establishing clear criteria for comparison, which weakens analytical focus and makes it difficult to draw meaningful conclusions.

Prosecutorial discretion in white-collar crime cases
One of the issues of white-collar crime is the issue of Prosecutorial discretion. Prosecutors who dabble with white-collar crimes have great scope of discretion in that they can determine whether to bring a criminal case and which issues to quote if they do indict. The nature of the white collar statutes often cedes discretion to prosecutors. This is because they may be seen to overlap into the area of civil, rather than criminal, interest and are therefore seen by many as encompassing economic regulations that fall within the perimeters of civil enforcement. Critics see this as an unjust and partisan system, whilst supporters see it as being blessed with flexibility rendered by cautious and rational prosecutors, and checked by presiding judges . The issues, back and forth about the fairness or unfairness of the discretionary system, are febrile and ongoing. Suggestions such as inquisitorial trials (with jury assessing prosecutorial decisions) have been suggested, but none have been taken seriously. It is likely that the issue will not be so readily solved since prosecutorial discretion has been an entrenched and accepted part of the criminal justice system ever since the beginning and will likely remain so in the future. The best one can do is monitor prosecutorial decisions with presiding judge, and this is what is being done at the moment.

The Navajo Indians also referred to as Dine are semi-nomadic people. It is interesting to note that Navajo people are at times known as ‘Holy Earth People (Iverson, 2002). This comes from their beliefs in supernatural beings as well as traditional practices of ritual songs and dance. Navajo people are found in north-eastern areas of Arizona and north-western region of New Mexico (Iverson, 2002) .the regions where the Navajo people live in arid and desert areas that have minimal rainfall. The Navajo people are highly family oriented people, and have a rich culture that is full of ceremonies and other traditions. This paper looks at the history of pastoralists of the Navajo people, their beliefs and religious practices and kinship, sickness and healing, which are important elements with the culture of Navajo people.
