Women in Business Key Qualities Women Must Possess for Success in the Business World

One of the most important qualities that women must possess for success in the business world is the knowledge and self-confidence that they are equally capable of performing well as any male in the same position. Generally, self-confidence and self-efficacy in general are necessary elements to success and women typically face more obstacles than men do in that regard, largely because of some cultural biases based in a long previous history of chauvinistic beliefs and expectations in society (Halbert & Ingulli, 2009).

Changes in Modern Business Attributable to Women in Management Positions

One of the more important changes in modern business that is attributable to more women in positions of management is that any prevailing or residual male chauvinism is reduced for every woman who achieves positions of leadership within organizations because of the opportunity to influence organizational ethics and culture (Stevens, 2008). Another change attributable to women filling management positions is that negotiations and communications (both internal and external) tend to span a broader range of styles than negotiations and communications that follow the styles and tendencies of many males in management. First, with more women in management, any remaining barriers to women based on their gender will continue to diminish (Halbert & Ingulli, 2009). Second, as more women fill management and executive roles within organizations, those organizations begin to take on and reflect organizational values and cultures that promote inclusion and the continual reduction of any attitudes or expectations that have presented obstacles to women achieving advancement in the workplace and equal treatment to their male counterparts (Robbins & Judge, 2009). In principle, to the extent women who are better qualified than any male counterparts are discriminated against or deprived of opportunities because of their gender, the organization also suffers by virtue of not promoting the best-qualified and most productive individuals (Halbert & Ingulli, 2009).
