My qualifications

“Open your mouth let’s see!” that was me when I was young, as I pretended to examine my family members when I was young. From a young age, I have had a strong desire to pursue a healthcare related career, and years later, I am actually a qualified and certified MRI Technician. So has to realize by dream and achieve my goal of providing care to the deserving, I have studied at the University of Maryland University College graduated in 2016, a degree in BS in Health care Management from the University of Potomac graduating in 2010, a Diploma in Magnetic Resonance Imaging from the Northern Virginia Community College graduating in 2007, ASS in medical Radiology and Diploma in Practical Nursing from the University of District of Columbia graduating in 2004 and 1999 respectively, and ASS in Education, Biology/Chemistry from the Milton Margai College of Education in Freetown Sierra Leone.

In addition to my education, I have had the opportunity to work with some of the best in the industry, hence gaining firsthand experience on crucial elements of the profession. Currently, I am working at Sibley Memorial Hospital as an MRI Technologists. Before then, I worked in the same hospital as a Medical Radiographer. Previously, I have worked with the National Institute of Health Maryland as an MRI Contractor, with Inova Fair Oaks Hospital Virginia as an MRI Technologists, with George Town University Hospital Washington as MRI Technologists, and with the Holy Cross Hospital Maryland.

Throughout my years in employment, I have gained vital insights and skills essential for patient care. Among these are; conventional and digital radiography, patient care, interventional and operating procedures, performing IV administration under the supervision of a radiologist, and MRI and MRA procedures with and without contrast. I have worked under the supervision of experienced and renowned MRI technicians who have not only taught me but also mentored me. My supervisors have included David Lyman, Robert Evers, and Mark Collins as well as others listed in my attached Curriculum Vitae.

All through my career and under the supervision of my well capable supervisors I have learned vital skills and tips for ensuring success. These include verbal and written communication, paying attention to detail, being sensitive to psychological and physical needs of patients, following instruction set out by the physicians to the latter, and the importance of working with a team. Also important is the ability to stay on my feet during work hours and the strength to manage the machines involved in a day’s work.

My role as an MRI technician

My duty as an MRI technician is primarily to interpret the instruction made by the physician, to help patients understand the MRI procedures they need to undergo, selecting the appropriate software options and imaging measures when operating an MRI machine, and viewing and interpreting images from an imaging machine as well as keeping records (Klaming et al., 2015). In addition, my day to day duties as an MRI Technician is preparing patients for the required procedures, moving incapacitated patients from a wheelchair onto the examination table and ensuring they are in the right position for imaging, and maneuvering the tools and equipment used.

Reasons why I should be admitted to the program

Based on the role and duties of an MRI Technician, it is evidently clear that they are an essential part of any healthcare. It is therefore clear that better training MRI Technicians would go a long way towards promoting healthcare services (Tsetis et al., 2016). As a current MRI Technician, training at Armstrong Institute Patient Safety and Quality Leadership Academy are sure to develop my competencies in the development and execution of intervention necessary for improving the quality of healthcare and patient safety.
