Per the case studies birth control is a very contentious and often heavily debated subject. Here, consumers can not only base their purchasing decisions based on cost but also the overall duration of the birth control (Reproductive Rights, 2018). These aspects can aid significantly aid in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies around the world. This can have positive impacts to society in the form of less taxes to support social services related to unwanted pregnancies, the loss of productivity because of maternity leave, and the overall funding of programs such as WIC or Food Stamps required to help support teenagers with unwanted pregnancies (Pilpel, 1969).

2. Should the government fund sex studies?

Yes, the government should fund sex studies as they have a positive benefit for the rest of society. Sex studies are critical to determining what contributes not only to the increase of unwanted pregnancies, but also the factors that can help mitigate its occurrence. Likewise, sex studies can also help to mitigate and better understand sexually transmitted diseases. This is particularly helpful to society as it helps reduce cost associated with healthcare. Currently the United States has the highest healthcare costs in the world. This ultimately, culminates in nearly 18% of America’s GDP being allocated to healthcare expenditures. Even worse, these costs are expected to increase to roughly 20% of GDP by the year 2030. By having the government engage in sex studies, better healthcare solutions can be developed that ultimately improve society outcomes while also lowering healthcare costs overall

An ideal solution would be public private partnership that allow the private sector to become involved within the studies. Through private sector partnership, the overall efficiency and success rate of studies increases due to profit incentives embedded in the partnership. Likewise, the government can spend less money on studies thus helping to alleviate any budgetary concerns.

3. Should we vaccinate against HPV?

Yes, we should vaccinate against HPV due in part to how common it is and the implications on those who contract it. There were 44 million HPV infections in 2020 alone, with a majority of them occurring with those who are 20 years and younger (Human papillomavirus, 2020). The health outcomes are alarming and consist of cancer, genital warts, and other adverse illnesses. Thankfully nearly 90% of HPV can go away within a year or two which weakens the argument for vaccination. However, the remaining 10% who do experience illness, often have very severe illnesses which would help to strengthen the case related to vaccinations. The issues, particularly, cancer can be very expensive and costly for both the individual and society. By offering a vaccine, these high costs, adverse healthcare outcomes, and complications can be avoided (Groner, 2014)
