Since the beginning of the running course, I have noticed more definition in my calves and that my waistline seems to have decreased slightly. Aerobic and Cardiovascular Changes:

Initially, my endurance was limited by my aerobic capacity because I would get winded comparatively soon into my runs and I had to walk until my breathing allowed me to increase my pace again. I noticed that this improved very quickly and I attribute that to the fact that regular aerobic exercise increases aerobic fitness and endurance. Likewise, my resting pulse rate has decreased from approximately 62 beats per minute to approximately 56 and that my pulse rate also returns to normal faster than it did in the beginning. I attribute this to the fact that regular exercise also improves cardiovascular efficiency and circulation.

Performance Changes:

My running times have decreased in comparison...

...

Specifically, I have learned to conserve extraneous movement of my arms and to keep my feet closer to the ground instead of wasting energy lifting my whole body weight several more inches off the ground on each stride. My stride length has also shortened somewhat which also seems to have helped me reduce the impact of each individual stride. Finally, I attribute some of my improved performance to the fact that my stride has also improved in that my weight is now distributed more smoothly and transitions from my heels to my toes, whereas in the beginning, I tended to land more flat-footed on each step. I appreciate all of these beneficial changes and hope to continue running after this course is over.

Computers Are an Underutilized Resource for High School Physical Education Teachers Computers have become an integral part of the high school learning environment, beginning in the early 1990s. They provide a vast variety of resources to help enhance student education through presentation of material in a variety of media and act as an enhancement to teacher lessons. Physical Comedy on Film Sophisticated, Funny and Physical: The Romances of Astaire and Rogers Physical comedy brings to mind Moe, Larry and Curly bopping each other over the head. Or it might suggest Lucille Ball stuffing chocolates into her mouth, her blouse or anyplace except on the conveyor belt in the neat little rows the candy-making supervisor intended. (Or better, her boozy bout with VitaMeataVegamin, the Peppy Picker-Upper.) A thousand reruns of

Vitamin D Supplementation increases Voluntary Physical Activity Levels in Nursing Home Patients Over the course of a semester does vitamin D3 supplementation, and the resultant increase in muscle strength and bone density, lead to increased physical activity in nursing home residents in the absence of added encouragement? The elderly often suffer from low serum levels of vitamin D, reduced muscle strength, and decreased bone density (reviewed in: Hamilton, 2010). Muscle biopsies have

Learning in theory and practice: Vygotsky’s ZPD and physical education in primary education Introduction Age-graded schooling is one of the most common and conventional features of today’s academic environment. For younger learners in the primary education levels, this separation of young children from adolescents may seem on the face of it like a common sense approach to education—yet, as Gray and Feldman (2004) point out, separation such as this actually is more
