Ethics and Behavior in Organizational Culture

Criminal justice uses a series of tools with the purpose of fighting criminal activities, with these respective tools working together in deterring, catching, judging, and penalizing criminals. The police are one of the principal elements in the system that are directed at addressing criminal activities. The presence of the crime problem in society has encouraged the masses to get actively involved in fighting it through devising complex systems that focus on discouraging criminal acts and on punishing individuals who commit them.

The state uses legislature with the purpose to create funds that are directed at supporting criminal justice agencies. The judiciary branch determines people's guilt and focus on devising penalties that are in accordance with their crimes. In addition to devising laws in situations that have no precedent, courts are also in charge of interpreting legislations and determine whether a person's act can be characterized by making use of a particular set of laws and if that respective individual is liable to be judged in a certain way. The executive branch is mainly composed of leaders such as mayors, governors, and the president -- individuals in charge of nominating judges and people leading criminal justice agencies.

Police officers, courts, and correctional facilities are the best known subsystems of the justice system. These three groups focus on catching criminals, trying them, and, respectively, on penalizing them. Police agencies range between providing services to identify criminals to actually capturing them. Courts are in charge of trying criminals, with finding out the truth with regard to particular cases, and with having judges and juries work together in providing criminals with verdicts that are in agreement with the gravity of their crimes. Correctional facilities concentrate on both penalizing and educating criminals. These institutions also function as a deterring tool, taking into account that many people refrain from committing crimes as a consequence of considering the experience they would have behind bars.

Police officers often come across feelings of rivalry and this makes it less probable for them to cooperate with each-other. As the head of a police department that is dealing with such an issue, I would focus on devising educational programs meant to emphasize the importance of fighting crime as a unit rather than as individual persons. In addition to this, I would install harsher legislations that would discourage officers from being hesitant about helping each-other. Even with the fact that employing hostility to fight hostility is not always the best option, combining it with educational ideas is more likely to achieve positive effects in the long run.
