Business and Project Management
The activities relating to the closing phase of a project have a profound impact and long-term effect on the organization and its people. The success of future projects will certainly rely on not only the success of the current project but also on how successful the project was treated by James Hospital and its stakeholders. Project members must have the right attitude to engage in successful projects. This section offers information regarding the importance of constant motivation, leadership and communication to ensure the project objectives are met. The significance of each variable differs by organization and project type.
Motivation is the overall philosophy of rewards and recognition to let project members stand out. Successful projects make it a goal to let the members stand out by repeatedly acknowledging their contributions. Showing appreciation by issuing a paycheck might not be enough. Rewards are argued to create compliance; not commitment. If the project manager offers positive feedback, it can increase intrinsic motivation (Project Management Institute 2013).
Leadership in the closing phase of the project concerns ensuring that things have been done while encouraging the members towards successful closure of the project. As stated in Assignment One, the project manager must lead the team and stakeholders through a fine-tuned project study so as to confirm whether the project goals are met (Hill, 2014). Moreover, the project leader assumes a pivotal part in anticipating any change and addressing it in an effective manner. The leader directs and steers the team participants to cope with the current situation and utilize the situation to one's advantage.
Issues related to communication enable the project staff to understand that the project is in the closing phase and that the goals have been attained (Watt, 2015). The project staff must know the status of the project so that they can monitor project progress. Maintaining regular, accurate and open communication channel at the closing phase is crucial to ensuring the sufficient warning of threats and changes to allow easy evaluation and preparation.
Question 2
In project management, the goal of talent management is to create a work environment that attracts retains and engages the best talent. The key to the success of any project manager is the ability to attract and retain talented and skilled people. The following are some of the strategies project managers could apply during the closing phase of projects to attract the best talent for future projects they lead in the organization.
First, project managers must be specific regarding recruitment objectives. As they plan to recruit, they ought to be as detailed and as clear as possible with the overall objectives (Watt, 2015). This includes articulating the number of employees needed, setting target timelines and crafting a contingency plan for any unforeseen issues that could arise during the recruitment procedure. Often, onboarding and orientation should not be ignored in these timelines as the lack of it could lead to a new hire's early departure if s/he feels lost and unwelcomed during the preliminary period.
