Child welfare is the area of social work I am interested in practicing. Helping children and their families resolve conflict and intervening on child abuse and neglect issues will comprise the overall responsibilities. With a master’s degree in social work, I can offer a higher level of care, including diagnosing and treating mental health conditions or emotional and behavioral disorders. Child welfare entails assisting families, helping adults break destructive habits, and protecting children. The main focus of a child welfare social worker is on the child or children. Therefore, when working with families, the social worker will assist the families in overcoming the conflict they are facing to improve the living conditions for the child. Helping adults to break destructive behavior is aimed at eliminating torture and violence against children. The issues facing children at home and fighting to improve the lives of the children either in juvenile or state care is another role of the child welfare social worker.
