Martin Luther and the German Reformation

The Catholic Church had a particularly influential character during the sixteenth century and this was perfectly reflected by the fact that many individuals across Europe subjected to it and felt that it was essential for them to act in accordance with its legislations. Even with this, a great deal of people considered that the institution had an abusive nature and that particular values that it promoted were immoral. Martin Luther was one of the individuals in Germany who felt that people needed to open their eyes concerning the morally wrong acts committed by the Catholic Church. The German reformation is one of the most important events in the country's religious history.

Martin Luther was initially a passionate Catholic and was determined to do everything in his power with the purpose of having others acknowledge the importance of Catholicism in general. He even went as far as to pay indulgences in an attempt to be absolved for his sins, as the church had influenced him to believe that paying money would reflect positively on his relationship with God. However, he gradually realized that it was wrong for the Church to ask finances with the purpose of absolving individuals of their sins and that something needed to be done in order to have the masses gain a better understanding of how the world works and of the fact that sins have nothing to do with finances.

Luther was practically responsible for triggering the Reformation movement in Germany and his 95 Theses played an essential role in creating a rupture between the Catholic Church and Christians across his home country. Not only was Luther frustrated because of his failure to comprehend the fact that the indulgences were virtually wrong, as he was also determined to have Germans acknowledge the injustices performed by the Catholic Church before they reached his position. As a consequence, he started a mass program meant to inform Germans concerning the attitudes that they needed to employ with regard to the Church. His actions led to one of the most significant conflicts experienced by the Catholic Church and made it possible for society to understand that individuals were no longer willing to accept being manipulated by Catholicism. This man virtually discovered that the Catholic Church was a particularly corrupt institution that took advantage of people during the era and got actively involved in denouncing it using every means he had available.

The fact that Luther went against one of the most powerful organizations in the world and against the pope himself generated much controversy and influenced the Church and a great deal of catholic officials to do everything in their power in order to stop Luther's success. Even with the fact that many Germans were hesitant about listening to Luther, his translation of the Bible in German and his involvement in emphasizing every immoral action that the Church committed until the time practically made it possible for them to change their perspective concerning the institution and to join him in getting actively engaged in the conflict against the church.

What is curious about Luther is that he had a limited amount of power and yet managed to experience significant success in his endeavor to reveal the Catholic Church's tendency to exploit individuals by appealing to their religious nature. The fact that people across Germany broke from the Catholic Church during the Reformation had a strong influence on the country as a whole. Individuals realized that it was wrong for them to be exploited by influential players and that they needed to focus of denouncing any immoral act that they could observe in others. People felt that as long as they managed to stop the Catholic abuse they could also stop other groups from taking advantage of them.
