¶ … cultural heritage risk? Will globalization ultimately lead global culture? Why ?

Globalization has made it possible for people coming from a wide range of environments to interact and to influence each other. India has experienced the full hit of globalization as its people were provided with Western thought during the last few decades and as cultural values have gone through a significant restructuring process. While certain aspects of globalization provide people in India with benefits, they also suffer as a consequence of the fact that their community is experiencing a slow but sure process of reform.

The Indian landscape is very diverse, as modern buildings in large cities contrast rural areas where people still use animals as a means of plowing land. Luxurious cars are driven alongside of scooters, bicycles and carts drawn by camels, this standing as proof that India adapted to change without abandoning a series of its traditional customs. When considering the entertainment sector, the Indians have managed to create a replica of Hollywood. Bollywood is largely similar to Hollywood, only that it concentrates on Indian culture and traditions and it is generally meant to address an Indian public.

The Indian government is predominantly democratic and India as a whole appears to have largely profited as a consequence of the fact that its leaders expressed support in regard to Western concepts. The country's economy is rapidly developing with its services and IT sectors being recognized for the fact that they provide the rest of the world with cheap and effective resources. International actors took advantage of the fact that many Indians speak English and of the fact that many of them are experienced in operating computers and established various operations in India. In addition to this, India has also develop a consumer market because of its relationship with Western communities, with people in the country starting to express more and more interest in brands present in the West. "Notable examples of international companies that have done well in India in the recent years include Pepsi, Coca-Cola, McDonald's, and Kentucky Fried Chicken, whose products have been well accepted by Indians at large" (Globalization in India).

In spite of the fact that India has experience positive results as a result of being affected by the globalization process, its people have also been reported to suffer along with this change. Western values sent through means such as MTV have disoriented Indian teenagers, as they were provided with information regarding sexual activity and violence as being perfectly normal when considering adolescence. As a consequence, many Indian teenagers have come to express an increased interest in starting their sexual activity at an early age. The fact that they were bombarded with Western values made it difficult for them to differentiate between information that was beneficial for them and information that harmed their understanding of the world.

In addition to the fact that teenagers are negatively affected because of certain parts of the globalization process, the authorities also have problems keeping up with the world because the large inflow of money increases the level of corruption in the country. Individuals are apparently attracted by the prospect of getting rich over night and feel less hesitant about committing immoral acts.
