Part III
This research proposal is to conduct research to determine how the immigration process affects the number of illegal immigrants that remain undocumented over the years. "According to Pew Hispanic Center, around 11.2 million immigrants lived in the United States in 2010, which was unchanged from 2009" (11.2 Million Illegal Immigrants in the United States in 2010: No Change from 2009, 2012). "Only one million green cards are issued each year" (Current Immigration System Hurting U.S. Economy, 2012). This leaves over ten million immigrants without legal status each year. Even highly skilled workers start with a temporary visa, starting the legalization process over when the temporary visa expires. The purpose of this research is to show legislation how the immigration process is hurting the immigration legal status. Over ten million immigrants remain illegal each year because the immigration system is too slow and underfunded to document them in an appropriate time frame.
