Interview Question for a Cabin

Interview question for a Cabin Crew position at Eagle Express Air.

What famous person would you most want to interview and why?

Because my interest in 20th century history and in the aviation field, I might most want to talk to retired U.S. Air Force General Chuck Yeager who is best known for being the first pilot to break the sound barrier in 1947. He was also the premier fighter ace of all American pilots in World War II. Besides his accomplishments in combat and aeronautical research, I would also want to ask General Yeager about how his social views have changed and what his retrospective opinion is about his public statements opposing the integration of African-Americans into the U.S. armed forces after the war. That is something that disturbed me to learn about someone who is, deservedly remembered as an American war hero and I would hope to hear him express regret and a more benevolent and enlightened attitude today about his position at the time.

What advice would you give to an entering freshman?

My advice to an entering freshman would emphasize the importance of time management and prioritizing of tasks. As a new college student, one has many temptations that take away from the focus on the main reason for enrolling education in the first place: education. This can be especially true for students who have never before had much autonomy or independence at home. Without parents reminding them not to stay out late on school nights and to go to class, many first-year students fall into bad habits that interfere with their potential academic success in college. I would also advise incoming students to be realistic about accommodating all of their interests because it is easy to commit to too many different activities and interests based on the sheer availability of so many varies options.

Finally, I would advise incoming freshmen who do not already have a specific area of academic and future professional interests that they should not worry excessively about selecting a major just for the sake of declaring one. They should make a genuine attempt to explore a wide variety of subjects and research available resources (especially online) to identify possible interests and suitable career paths that are achievable and likely to be fulfilling.

What is your favorite holiday? Why?

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving for several reasons. First, it is a nondenominational holiday that can be celebrated and shared by all Americans, irrespective of religious orientation or heritage of origin. Second, Thanksgiving involves the healthiest foods that we can all enjoy without worrying as much about our diets as we have to during other major holidays that emphasize less healthy foods and over a much longer run-up period than one weekend.

If you could live in some other historical period, which would you choose, and why?

I suppose, if I had to choose another era, it would be the immediate post-World War II era in the United States because of the optimism and the pace of improvement in the lives of ordinary people. In retrospect, that might have been one of the most positive times because of the many ways that the technologies originally developed for war, including, of course, in the aviation field, began to trickle down into civilian life.
