Israel COVID-19

Israel has remained one of the focal points of the COVID-19 pandemic because of its rapid vaccine rollout. Israel was the first nation across the globe to fully vaccinate a significant percentage of its population against the virus in efforts to control its spread and effects. However, the pandemic affected nearly every region across the country with some regions affected the most than others. The number of reported COVID-19 cases in Israel between January 3, 2020, and November 1, 2021, is 1,327,645. Jerusalem is the most affected region in Israel with nearly 1,000 COVID-19 related deaths (Tercatin, 2021). The countrys largest city is regarded as the most affected in terms of deaths given its high population. However, Bat Yam is the most affected region in terms of victims per capita. Bat Yam has recorded at least 2 COVID-19 deaths for every 1,000 residents. The other most affected regions are Ramle, Gedara, Acre, Netanya, Petah Tikva, and Tel Aviv with 1.8, 1.62, 1.6, 1.36, 1.1, and 0.82 victims per 1,000 residents respectively.

The cumulative per capita death from COVID-19 in Israel differs from that of the State of Palestine. As of November 1, 2021, the cumulative per capita death (i.e. the number of deaths per 1 million) in Israel was 921.87, which marked a 921.75 increase in the cumulative number of deaths compared to March 20, 2020. On the other hand, the number of deaths per 1 million in Palestine as of November 1, 2021, was 896.27, which is a significant increase from 0.19 on March 26, 2020 (Our World in Data, 2021). This implies that the State of Palestine has a slightly higher cumulative per capita death from COVID-19 than Israel. However, the rate does not necessarily imply that COVID-19 has a higher impact on Israelis than Palestinian residents because of the differences in the size of the population between the two countries. Therefore, the impact of COVID-19 in terms of the number of deaths is determined based on population size.
