The Red and the Black, by Stendhal touched me through the class struggle of Julien Sorel. He improved society during the Bourbon Restoration. Crime and Punishment, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky influenced me through Raskolinkov. I identified with his conscience, notwithstanding that his applied only retrospectively.
