MACRO Social Work

On February 9, 2009 the current project was granted permission to operate under a $65,000 budget for a period of eight months. This was fantastic news that did not come easily. Convincing the Court was definitely an aspect of speaking to inspire. Not only did we lay out the general plans of the project, we also inspired the commissioner with the presentation and the ultimate goal of bringing higher education, and therefore more opportunities to students in need. Now that we have inspired the commissioner, the goal turns to inspiring both the community and the students through building a string team, empowering the coalition, and ensuring the project's success.

Now that this project has the official green light, the next step is to build a stellar team. The team will definitely have its fair share of visionaries thanks to the educational realm in which it resides. The teachers needed to coach the students through achieving their goal of obtaining a G.E.D. will prove to inspire both students and other team workers through expanding the realm of possibility. Along with visionaries, the team will need to incorporate inside advocates who will bring great knowledge of how to work within the current system set in place. These individuals will help bring in strategic relationships with other educational institutions as well as professional employers for after the students succeed. Strategic communicators also help bring awareness of the success of the project in a way to help ensure similar future developments by other teams in areas all over the nation.

Building and maintaining strong relationships with Webb County community resources empowers the coalition. There are several outreaches which this project takes in its steps to ensure the success of the students both before and after they obtain their G.E.D. Collaborators on the project will reach out to both professional and academic resources in an attempt to further strengthen the impact of the team and our project. AG.E.D. proves an amazing thing to have, but without help from the professional world, many students would still have trouble finding employment in these hard economic times. To empower the project to not let these students down, the team has reached out to Webb County employers through a cooperative agreement with local workforce providers. This ensures a reliable and continual source for employment, through the professional monitoring of open and available jobs in the area. For those students who wish to continue pursuing their education, the team has also reached out to Ladero Community College to create a strategic relationship which would help students gain access to further schooling. By creating these relationships ahead of time, the team allows for much smoother transition of students after the project into real professional and academic life.
