¶ … Myth: Why Jealousy is Green-Eyed Monster
Farina was a beautiful girl, the prettiest girl in all of the land. She had creamy skin, rosy cheeks, auburn hair, but her most striking feature was her beautiful emerald-colored eyes.
Farina was also a lucky girl. She was a princess, the child of a feared and respected king and a queen revered for her kindness. The king and queen had tried for years to have a child, and, when they spoiled her with abandon, giving in to her every whim. Not that their spoiling ruined her. Farina was probably one of the sweetest children in all the land, as well. She would smile and say "please" and get almost anything she desired, and then she would smile, and show a pretty dimple, and say "thank you" in her sweet voice, too. No one knew how the princess would ask if someone said "no" to her, because no one ever did. She grew up treasured and happy, and without any idea that there was any other way to feel.
When Farina was eighteen, a stranger came to visit her kingdom. He was handsome and mysterious, and a little bit cruel, a trait that, as a sheltered young girl, she failed to recognize for what it was. She was immediately taken with him, and used to getting anything she desired, she set about trying to get him. Micah was not a prince or a king, but a soldier, and he did not see any reason why a prince from another land should get the chance to rule the land that he had fought so hard to protect. When he realized that the princess wanted him, he saw an easy way to fulfill his goals. That Farina was beautiful and sweet was a happy bonus, for he would have married her even if she had been ugly and mean.
Shortly after the couple wed, Farina's parents died. Though people would later say that Micah was involved, at the time everyone believed it was only a horrible accident, and soon the soldier had taken his place as king, his beautiful bride beside him. However, the people loved Farina, and they turned to her rather than Micah for guidance. That made Micah so jealous and angry, that he briefly considered killing her, but he found that he could not. So, Micah decided that if he was going to hurt, then she would hurt as well.
The first time Farina caught Micah with another woman, she did not even know how to describe what she felt. She screamed, she yelled, and she even threw a shoe at the woman. With Micah she was cold and distant, but she loved him and eventually she forgave him. but, a little bit of her heart had broken and Farina found that she could not eat. She grew thinner and paler, which made her incredible green eyes seem even brighter. Micah found that her anger only made him hate her more, but that he still could not bring himself to kill her. He strayed more and more frequently, making a point to make sure that Farina knew of his dalliances. Initially, she tried to ignore the whispers, but there were times when she would holler and shriek, throwing things in her anger. She grew thinner and thinner, her beautiful face hollowed because she refused to eat. Her glossy red hair grew dull and matted, as she stalked the castle, looking for her husband and his lovers.
