Subject: Request for Clarification and Support in Admission Decision
Dear Dr. Martin, Dr. Butler, and esteemed members of the admissions committee,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to you today with a heart full of determination yet burdened with confusion regarding the outcome of my application to the Mississippi College Physician Assistant Program. Becoming a part of this esteemed institution is a personal ambition of mine but also a legacy I hoped to carry forward, considering the deep-rooted association my family has had with Mississippi College. From pioneers in diversity and education to establishing significant endowments and achieving legal victories, my family has contributed and flourished, thanks to the foundations laid by this great institution. It is a goal of mine to contribute to the healthcare sector in Mississippi, and embody the spirit of service and excellence that Mississippi College instills in its students.
In September 2023, I applied to the Physician Assistant Program and was subsequently placed on the waitlist in November. Following this, I engaged in constructive discussions with Dr. Kenneth Butler, with the aim being to identify areas of improvement that would improve my candidacy. Despite being assured of my strong application and the likelihood of being the next candidate selected from the waitlist, the acceptance I eagerly awaited did not materialize. My interactions with the admissions team led me to believe there were no specific improvements required on my part, an assertion reiterated in subsequent meetings, including the one before Easter 2024.
Throughout this period, I proactively sought to bolster my application through continued service as an ER technician at UMMC, believing in the value of practical experience. However, as the cycle concluded, my application did not progress, which left me puzzled and seeking answers. The feedback I received recognized my competitive stance, my outstanding MMI scores and commendable letters of recommendation. Yet, the lack of guidance on how to improve my application, as I believe was provided to other candidates, leaves me concerned about possible underlying reasons affecting my candidacy. I am told the process is holistic, yet holistic is my approach to health. Are we not on the same page?
The mission and values of Mississippi College have been a light for my family, guiding us to major achievements and helping us to contribute in the most meaningful ways to our community. It is with this sense of shared values and commitment to excellence that I humbly request a detailed review of my application process. Understanding the complexities and the holistic approach of the admissions process, I respect the decisions made. However, clarity on why my application was not advanced, despite seemingly meeting the criteria and receiving positive feedback, would greatly assist me in my future endeavors, whether that entails reapplying or seeking alternative paths to fulfill my vocational calling in healthcare.
I wish to express my gratitude for the professionalism and support extended to me thus far. My intent in reaching out is not to challenge the integrity of the process but to seek understanding and guidance on how I might align more closely with the program’s expectations or address any inadvertent oversights. The legacy of Mississippi College is one of empowerment, inclusivity, and excellence – principles I deeply honor and respect and hope to embody as a future healthcare professional.
