Professional Organization Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) provides its members with knowledge, education, and resources that enable them reach their true potential. This association is for IT business professionals. AITP endeavors to equip its members with technology and leadership education. It also undertakes to equip its members with research and information on current technological issues in the realms of business (AITP, 2012). The association creates a forum for networking and collaboration. Some of the networking events that the association organizes are conferences.

To be a member of AITP one must have at one time been employed in the management of information resources portfolios. These individuals can be managers, staff, sales, and even service providers. This category of individual falls under professional members. Students with relevant training background can also be members of AITP. AITP also draws its membership from commercial enterprises, government, and educational organizations that rely on information technology in day-to-day running of their activities.

These organizations have to have minimum number of memberships to qualify to join this membership class (AITP, 2012). Former student members are also allowed to become professional members of AITP. The AITP provides professional development opportunities for its members by organizing workshops. It is through these workshops that these members get to network. One such conference is AITP Collegiate Conference that is slated for April 4-7 next year (2013) in Saint Louis Missouri (AITP, 2012). The conference targets IT students drawn from colleges and Universities across the whole of United States.

As a student I stand to benefit from being a member of AITP because through conferences they organize I get to meet IT industry leaders who provide the much needed information in IT job market. As students, AITP provides us with scholarship opportunities. The scholarship is awarded based on demonstrated academic achievement, leadership activities, community service, and future career interests (AITP, 2012). These conditions bar many student members from getting these scholarships. Only ten applicants are considered out of the 40 applications made.

AITP has a career center that offers us resume tips. It also has career books and free resources that have proved really valuable to us. Association of Software Professionals (ASP) draws its membership from software developers. This association brings together successful developers of desktop and laptop programs with a view to making members share their experiences of mastering the most promising technologies. Members subsequently benefit from new marketing strategies. This enables them to work through the business challenges they encounter on day-to-day basis.

It also helps its members develop more marketable softwares and sell them effectively because it has international appeal (ASP, 2012). To be a member of ASP you have to be an individual who develops, distributes, and market their own software products. Vendors, online distributors, online developers, user groups, members of the press, consultants, and shareware enthusiasts also qualify to be members of ASP (ASP, 2012). It is only that consultants have to be working in software or hardware industry. ASP provides professional.
