The Classification of Relationships

The human society is made up of various types of relationships which are established among individuals. A classification of relationships can include the relationship with family members or relatives, the relationship with friends, that with teachers and colleagues and that with co-workers in a business environment.

My relationship with the other family members is based on unconditional affection and support, independent of circumstances. However, even within the family the relationships are sometimes strained because we all have different expectations of each other. While the family is the greatest support someone can have in one's life, conflict can arise if there is a clash of opinions. This happens especially because the family relationships are very close and usually the actions or behavior of a single member of the family will affect the other members as well. The relationship with the family is of vital importance to anyone, as the individual needs his relatives for intimacy and support.

My relationship with my friends is also a very important part of my social life. Friends have a similar role to the family when it comes to support and affection. However, they are also significant because they are the people I connect with on the basis of common interests. The friends are the persons I share impressions and opinions with. They are also the persons to spend free time with. It would be very difficult for an individual to live without close friends to communicate with regularly, as no one can be completely introverted. It is human characteristic to seek for companionship and share thoughts and experiences with other people. The need for friends is natural, since the individual needs to relate closely to other people and get to know them and be known by them, so as to establish his or her identity. Friendship can sometimes be a very strong connection and can last for a lifetime precisely because there are always people with common interests that feel the need to communicate with each other.

Another important type of relationship in my life is that with my teachers and colleagues. Education is also an important environment for developing relationships. For me, teachers and colleagues are significant because they help establish my personality on a professional level. School is the context where the individual develops significantly, while acquiring skills and knowledge. The teachers are therefore very important for the development of an individual. For me, teachers have often served as guidance and even as role-models. A teacher can open new horizons for me, as he or she is able to influence and feed my personality and my view of the world. The colleagues on the other hand are also important as they can sometimes be competitors who are exposed to the same learning experience as I am.
