¶ … Replication The primary research question that will be focused on this proposed research will consist of determining the most effective current methods of replicating and proliferating data in order to increase the ease and efficiency of access without disrupting the integrity of the data or increasing security risks and unauthorized access.

Past and current methods of data replication in a variety of different specific applications will be assessed on the basis of their security and their efficiency, with specific problems and advantages of each of the examined architectures and methodologies detailed. The identification of the causal features of each of these systems in relation to the effects of heightened or diminished security, increased or reduced efficiency, and other factors will be attempted as well, providing a more detailed and a more directly practical understanding of data replication methods.

After identifying past and current methods for meeting data replication needs in a variety of different settings, specific problems currently being faced in the realm of data replication will be indentified. Potential solutions will also be suggested by the research into existing and previous data replication methodologies, and these will be paired with identified problems in a manner that suggest new solutions and innovative ways of approaching these issues.

A collation of the identified problems and solutions will enable the preliminary suggestion of a data replication architecture design that will provide the best possible combination of ease and efficiency of use along with adequate security provisions. Introduction The rapid pace of technological development has necessitated an equally rapid rate of development in software applications and architectures, in order for systems to take the maximum possible advantage of progresses in hardware and infrastructure.

This can easily be seen in the world of consumer software; updates that used to be developed and released annually or even further apart now come every several months; entirely new versions of popular programs like Microsoft Office are released more and more frequently, and even operating systems seem to be updated almost yearly.

The importance of maintaining updated software for the average consumer is, however, simply a matter of convenience and ongoing compatibility -- doubtless there are dozens of recluse writers that are still using word processors in perfect contentment, rather than updating to the latest version of Microsoft Word on their brand new.
