Scott Peterson's Case -- Open for Appeal?

Prevailing legal wisdom holds that the higher the number of jurors dismissed in favor of alternates, the greater the likelihood that the jury deliberations were tainted with error. Thus, the Scott Peterson case, although the media attention currently is focused on other pending cases now that this highly publicized trial is drawing to a close, may have justifiable grounds for an appeal upon the fact that the jury deliberations were biased, and contained extraneous information. (Hayes, 2004)

The first dismissed juror from the case, let go only four weeks into the five-month trial discussed with other jurors the fact that he believed Scott Peterson was innocent. He was then seen on a courtroom security camera joking with Laci Peterson's brother while inside the courthouse. By dismissing this man, Peterson's attorneys could argue, the judge created the perception in the jury room, however subtly, that Peterson was guilty. Even worse, the second dismissed juror, Fran Gorman, Juror 7, may have brought tainted or outside evidence into the deliberations. After all the testimony in the case had been heard, and Gorman began her participation in the jury's discussions, it was revealed that she had injected into the deliberations some of her own outside "research." Then, the foreman, the foreman recalled the substance of her "research" had been passed along to him in conversation. Not wanting deliberations to be further imperiled, the man asked to be relieved of his official duties. (Hayes, 2004)

Other potential issues that could affect the appellate court's decision to overturn the verdict are the potentially tainted or biased testimony of Peterson's lover, Amber Frye. However, jury tainting by outside information deemed to be substantial in the determination of the final decision of the assembled jury is without a doubt the most serious allegation, as, if it were proven correct, then the verdict would have to be overturned and a new trial instituted.

Sentencing Juveniles Juvenile Delinquent Sentencing Two factors that should be considered when sentencing a juvenile offender According to Sandborn (2009), there is substantively little difference between the perceptions of a juvenile of the nature of court proceedings with those of an adult: both can understand that the concepts of a jury, defense attorney, and judge. Supposedly, teens are capable of doing so as young as thirteen (Sandborn 2009: 153). However, merely understanding the

J. Or Blake cases, is a good recent example of that: Peterson (whose defense was also not cheap) waits on Death Row in California while O.J. And Blake both walk free, enjoying life and having plenty of quality time with their children. For children of a convicted capital killer like my father, though, life in prison without parole is like the Mark of Cain. Unfortunately, I have worn it all my

However, critics complain that although the creatures created are fascinating as will be discussed later, the merging of special effects with the film itself is far from seamless. "Alas much of the effects work is considerably underset by thick matte lines - uncharacteristically poor work from Brian Johnson" (Scheib). Those thick matte lines are very visible at times during the film, particularly during the flying sequences when Flagor flies

Quality Improvement Program Needs Assessment and Quality Improvement Plan Paula Stechschulte, PhD, RN Quarter This paper discusses the process of drafting a quality improvement plan at a community level medical facility, a plan that is aimed at reducing days under urinary catheter and also reducing the rates of infections associated with the said catheters. As a high rate of incidence of infection related to catheter usage is costly for the hospital, this implementation

Pedagogic Model for Teaching of Technology to Special Education Students Almost thirty years ago, the American federal government passed an act mandating the availability of a free and appropriate public education for all handicapped children. In 1990, this act was updated and reformed as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, which itself was reformed in 1997. At each step, the goal was to make education more equitable and more accessible to
