¶ … Technological Innovations Technology Innovation Write a (2-3) page paper: Analyze major technological innovations (5) years determine significant innovation entrepreneurs. Provide specific examples technology encouraged business creation growth. Major technological innovations in the last five (5) years: The rise of mobile technology and tablet computers The rise of mobile technology is undoubtedly the most significant technological innovation to occur within the past five years. Fewer and fewer people are using standard desktops or even laptops to satisfy their computing needs.

Instead, they are using their phones or tablet-style devices like iPads and Kindles to do everything from pay bills, to play games, to communicate with friends. It is increasingly essential that advertisers know how to communicate using this relatively narrow platform. The surge of interest in Twitter (at the expense of the more visually-oriented Facebook which requires a large viewing area) has been linked to the 'smaller is better' phenomenon manifested in the behavior of consumers.

Learning how to capitalize upon the benefits of mobile, hand-held computer devices is required for entrepreneurs to create products that suit the needs of modern day consumers. Even entrepreneurs who advertise their more traditional brick-and-mortar resources must have an understanding of what it means to be mobile. "The rapid rise of cloud computing, coupled with a slew of increasingly powerful mobile computing devices, is killing the PC faster than analysts had predicted…PC sales overall dropped 1.1% compared to last year.

Meanwhile, IMS Research has forecasted a whopping 213% growth for tablets" (Brooks 2011). Tablet computers are cheaper and serve most of the functions that a person needs in the modern world, spanning from texting to banking to updating a status update on Facebook or tweeting. And from the point-of-view of advertising, 'Tweeting' may be more significant, when advertisers are choosing how to spend scarce resources.

"The fact that Facebook has been slow to ramp its mobile ads -- just introducing them this spring -- is one reason Twitter will surpass Facebook in terms of mobile ad revenue in 2012. A new forecast from eMarketer finds Twitter will earn $129.7 million in mobile ad revenue, while Facebook will bring in just over half that amount, at $72.7 million in the U.S." (Boorstin 2012). This indicates that Twitter and other 'micro-blogging' type formats may be the best way to reach consumers rather than verbally-based mediums.

The rise of cloud computing has reduced the need for massive amounts of memory storage. Even if people continue to use desktops at many offices, they use tablets and mobile phones to do personal computing. Workplace-related computing is also changing, as salespersons and other 'mobile' employees who wish to keep track of data find it easier to use portable, handheld devices. Using tablet computers can even "give small and medium-size business another option so they don't have to invest in a desktop computer" (Brooks 2011).

As people grow more accustomed to using smaller and smaller devices at work, they will be even more apt to gravitate to using these models in their daily lives. Smaller computers enable people to work 'anytime, anywhere,' which means that advertisers must strive to reach them using methods that can be easily apprehended in these formats.
