¶ … particular research will be a case study which is one of the many ways in which a research can be carried out especially a qualitative research like this one. It is basically an investigative and intensified study that analyzes the activities of a single event, a group of people or a category of communities at a single point of time. So basically, a case study investigates a real problem within the circumstances that it exists in and then either offers analytical breakdown of the problem and its root causes and/or provides efficient and real recommendations from the sources that are facing the problem (Baxter & Jack, 2008).

Resource officers. In the context of this study, I will define the resource officers as the counselors and the guides for students regarding matters that are outside the jurisdiction of basic academics but within the dominion of the law. In this study, wherever the term resource officers is used, it simply means a supervisor and counselor whose main task will obviously be to guide the children away from violent activities towards more constructive activities like sports arts, academics, etc. The resource officers will also serve as a non-authority figure who is part of the administration so that the students feel comfortable talking and interacting with the resource officer. Furthermore, this stance will allow the resource officer to be a buffer between the educators and the students.

Suburban School. Suburban schools and their environment are defined by the suburban societies. Hence to understand suburban schools one has to understand suburban societies. The suburban societies or suburbs are usually the explained as the smaller communities that are formed at the outer borders of a city. Usually suburbs are made up of detached or dysfunctional family setups with single parents. The overall population in the suburbs is a lot lower then the city that they surround. Hence, the suburban schools will exist in such circumstances sand will in turn have characteristics such as: students from low income rate family, low-paying job opportunities, limited government funds and resources, poor security, diversity of culture and discriminations amongst other things.

Violence. Violence is basically an aggressive form of an activity that can cause destruction of property or injuries if humans are involved. It usually is attributed to a strong sense of physically force that is applied from one person to another person or thing usually provoking a similarly destructive reaction. Violence can also be used a mechanism to intimidate or manipulate situations for personal gain or vendetta (Pinker, 2007).

Crime. Crime is basically an activity that has legal repercussions. It can and often is a result of violent acts being committed that the government and the law enforcement agencies need to intervene in order to eradicate or halt. Crime is normally described as deviant activities or nonstandard human behaviors (Dworkin, 2005).
