I don't go hungry, or feel the need to abuse drugs or alcohol, but I can see how this happens in these neighborhoods, where it seems there is little else to do and little else you can do to fit in with your peers. That is because I have choices. If I could not afford to attend college, or had to drop out to work or have kids, I would look at my future very differently, and so, I understand why so many of these people cope any way they can. They do not have the choices I do, and that makes them desperate and hopeless.
