The importance of civil engineering to modern society also appeals to my desire to contribute to the greater good. On a more practical note, the strong job prospects and financial rewards the field offers further reinforce my choice to pursue a career designing intricate and essential structures such as airports, sewage systems, and roads.
The first reason civil engineering appeals to me is its profound importance to society. Civil engineers are responsible for the design and supervision of tunnels, dams, bridges, airports, sewage systems, and roads — infrastructure that modern life depends on entirely. Although employment growth in civil engineering was projected to be somewhat slower than average, expanding infrastructure needs in the United States and worldwide would ensure continued demand for civil engineers.
