Overall, the piece reflects a vision of pharmacy as a compassionate, communicative profession that bridges the gap between prescribers and patients.
The career of pharmacist was chosen because of the opportunity this profession provides to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the sick and elderly. The positive impact of a professional and caring pharmacist on the lives of those whose days are spent in doctors' offices, hospitals, labs, and finally the pharmacy is both meaningful to the patient and fulfilling to the pharmacist.
Too many times, those who are sick are left to grapple with understanding how to take their medication, how to properly complete insurance forms, and how to monitor their own health indicators. As a pharmacist, I will be able to professionally assist patients with proper care, nutrition, and medication dosage, while fully explaining all side effects and drug interaction information.
Beyond these responsibilities, I aim to help patients understand how to monitor their blood sugar and blood pressure, and to provide any other knowledge that is critical for those whose well-being depends on accurate home self-screening.
