A Situation Analysis of Corporate Responsibility

Groundwater Pollution Issues Introduction How does America's groundwater become polluted and what are the sources of pollution that goes into the groundwater? How important is unpolluted groundwater to the sustainability of communities? Also, what are the solutions for this pollution of the groundwater? These issues and others will be reviewed in this paper. Groundwater Facts According to William M. Alley, writing in the peer-reviewed journal Environment, groundwater exists "…almost everywhere beneath the land surface" and it plays a "crucial role in sustaining streamflow between precipitation events" and in particular during "protracted dry periods" (Alley, 2006, p. 16). Alley explains that about 85 billion gallons of groundwater are "withdrawn daily," and upwards of ninety percent of that water is used for "…irrigation, public supply (deliveries to homes businesses, industry) and self-supplied industrial use" (Alley, 16). Of those 85 billion gallons withdrawn from groundwater sources daily, nearly two-thirds is used for irrigation, Alley explains. Also, groundwater provides about half of the drinking water needed by U.S. communities, and moreover, there is a problem with groundwater in that information on its use is "…spotty and often inaccurate within the United States" (Alley, 17). Laws that regulate the use of groundwater "…vary significantly from state to state and from one water-use category to another…" (Alley, 17).

Leadership landscape has evolved greatly over last few decades. Where there has been an extensive research performed in this area, major emphasis has been levied on distinguishing managers from leaders. And, in today's robust and diversified workplace, leaders with exceptional motivating power and business management ability is what every organization needs. This is the reason why obsolete leadership styles when exercised, tend to bring out disastrous results.

The ethical and legal consequences of testing employees without their knowledge or consent puts Danville Airlines into a defensive position, having to both explain to David Reiger why they are not letting him fly, and potentially to his attorneys how the testing took place at all. The issue of genetics testing raises ethical and legal conflicts, creating a paradox for companies who practice this type of screening (Howard, Richardson, Thorpe, 2009). Danville Airlines has been negligent in their process of medical screening, allowing samples taken from Reiger to be sent to a genetics screening lab (Darden, 2004). Especially detrimental to Reiger is the emotional trauma and pain of being diagnosed with Huntington's disease, the same disease which took his father's life as well (Darden, 2004). Danville is now in the paradoxical situation of having told people outside the company of Reiger's condition, also informing Reiger he will no longer be allowed to fly for the airline, in addition to still not taking steps to fix the several lack of compliance and oversight in its Human Resources Department (Darden, 2004). Even if the screening was technically legal and the attorneys for Danville successfully argue that the genetic testing results are binding, it still doesn't excuse the company from violating Reiger's rights as defined by the 1990 Americans With Disabilities Act (Avitabile, Jappelli, Padula, 2011). It also doesn't excuse the fact that this data, so detrimental to his ability to earn a living, is now out in public with those outside the company, as the case suggests (Darden, 2004). By allowing this to happen, Danville is now in violation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. The intent of this paper is to analyze the case and provide a series of recommendations on how Danville can mitigate the losses from their negligence.

The research paper is based on the Federal Contracting Activities and Contract Types. The company that does receive government contracts used in this case if the Dell corporation. There are various types of contracts looked at here like the fixed price contract and the cost reimbursement contract, costs incurred by the contractor and which ones the contractor preferred.

Assata Shakur is an activist who is also a member of the Black Panthers. Addressed here is Shakur's political philosophy and other information contained in her biography. She has been in and out of prison, and escaped in 1979 to live in exile in Cuba. During her lifetime she has been the subject of much debate about her role in the Black Panthers as well as her treatment in prison and other issues.

Analyzing organization is the process of assessing the organizations systems, functionality and capacity so as to increase the organizations performance, efficiency and overall output. This paper is an analysis of Compulyzed Telecommunications. Compulyzed Telecommunications is a telecommunications company dealing with telephone, cabling, and internet provision services for both home and corporate clients.

The market economy has developed drastically over the decades. This has consequently led to the gradual development and evolving of standard form business entities such as partnerships (general and limited), Limited Liability Company, cooperatives among others. Due to the complexity realized in such entities, laws are formulated by such organizations and also they are borrowed from parliamentary laws set by the concerned authorities. The laws/rules are set side for aided governance of the business organizations and companies.

The poorest people in America are the American Indians and it is also a fact that Indian reservations have unique laws that has made it a nation by itself within the United States. The modern movements focus on the American Indian reservations being empowered by self-determination. This is important for the economic, social and cultural improvement of the American Indians. It was with the Nixon administration that the welfare of the tribes became the focus of the government. The subsequent administrations encouraged the Indians to adapt to a policy of political and economic self-determination. Today many reservations have become economic hubs with tax and regulation havens for investment. Thus as of now the Mescalero and White Mountain Apaches "have become premier private managers of multiple-use forest resource economies."

Most people today probably recognize his signing voice from his hits such as "My Girl," but few may remember David Ruffin of The Temptations music group from the latter half of the 20th century. Like many of his contemporaries, Ruffin fell victim to the ravages of drug abuse during the height of his career, leaving his millions of fans with a musical void in their lives. To gain some further insights into his untimely death from an overdose of cocaine, this paper provides a review of the relevant peer-reviewed and scholarly literature to develop a background and an overview of Ruffin, his use of drugs, and an appropriate screening instrument that could be used to evaluate a similar client's stage of dependence, change or recovery. An application of this diagnostic tool to Ruffin's unique circumstances is followed by a discussion concerning possible placement options and treatment modalities for clients with Ruffin's diagnosis, and the rationale in support of their choice based upon a personal conceptualization and etiology of addiction. Finally, a summary of the research and important findings are presented in the conclusion.
