What is America?

America as a topic of academic study spans nearly every discipline, from history and political science to public health, literature, and cultural studies. Its breadth makes it a common subject in introductory college courses as well as upper-level seminars, where students are asked to examine the nation's political institutions, social tensions, and evolving identity. What makes the topic academically rich is precisely its complexity: the United States has served as a site of competing visions, from debates over economic policy and national power to questions of individual rights and social change. Papers touching on figures like Edward M. Bannister, Sam Patch, and Heather Whitestone illustrate how individual stories can illuminate broader national narratives.

The papers archived under this topic reflect a wide range of approaches. Historical analyses trace developments across defined periods, such as America's rise to world power during the Gilded Age or the military origins of the republic from 1763 to 1789. Policy-focused essays examine specific controversies, including welfare from a libertarian perspective, same-sex marriage, and the Cuba-related Helms-Burton legislation. Other papers take a social or public health angle, addressing issues like childhood obesity or health promotion strategies. Comparative and philosophical approaches also appear, as in contrasting the theories of David Hume and William James within an American intellectual context.

A strong essay on America establishes a focused thesis rather than attempting to survey the entire nation's history or character. Evidence drawn from primary sources, policy documents, historical events, or specific case studies carries more weight than broad generalizations. The most common pitfall is treating "America" as a monolithic subject — the strongest papers define a precise time period, population, or issue and argue a clear, defensible position about it.

Symbolic Interactionist Perspective Media Analysis
Social inequality is different from economic inequality, though related to some extent. Economic inequality is typically caused by unequal accumulation of wealth, whereas social inequality has many different forms. Gender inequality, racial inequality, caste inequality, or age inequality are all types of social inequality that may exist in a society not merely due to differences in financial statuses of individuals. People from different social statuses often live in separate localities which may not be the case with people from different economic statuses. Classic example of such an issue is that of African American class and the Jim Crow laws that were enacted in Northern United States between 1876 and 1965.

Gender-Specific Therapy for Women Prisoners Research Question
On average, women make up about 7 percent of the total federal and state incarcerated population in the United States. This has increased since the 1980s due to stricter and more severe laws that focus on recreational drug use, a lack of community programs, and fewer treatment centers available for outpatients (Zaitow and Thomas, eds., 2003). According to the National Women's Law Centers, women prisoners report a higher than statistically normal history of domestic violence in their immediate past, and the fastest growing prison population with a disproportionate number of non-Whites forming over 60 percent of the population. In fact, over 30 percent of women in prison are serving sentences for murder involving a spouse or partner. The incarceration of women presents far different cultural and sociological issues than those of men – issues with children, family, sexual politics and more (NWLC, 2012).

U.S. Health Care System Is a Series
U.S. Health Care System In our uniquely American health care system, there are two basic models for the provision of health care. The Market Justice Model, which is the primary model in American health care, is based on the American notion of free enterprise and individual responsibility. Privately funded by insurance and/or cash payments, this model involves private practices and institutions providing health care to individuals. The model assumes that health care is like any other good or service that can most rationally be purchased by an individual with his/her doctor's assistance and with little or no governmental involvement. In sharp contrast to the Market Justice Model is the Social Justice Model, which regards health care as a unique system of basic goods and services to which every member of a society is entitled. The Social Justice Model of health care assumes that equitable health care requires significant government involvement, central planning and allocation of basic health services for which the individual's ability/inability to pay is irrelevant. Existing in American society in the forms of Medicare, Medicaid and Workers Compensation, the Social Justice Model necessarily involves significant governmental involvement on the Federal and State levels. Based on severely conflicting notions, Market Justice and Social Justice Models coexist uneasily in American Society, with Market Justice being the more dominant model at this time.

Q1.The origin of slavery can be traced back to late 1600's in Jamestown in Virginia. In early 1600's the Virginia Company came to America and established the colony of Virginia. In the process of establishing the colony the English settlers also brought with them Portuguese and Dutch traders to help in the establishment of the colony. The English settlers had previously failed in their several attempts to establish a colony but were persistent enough to sees their dream come true. The successful establishment of the colony was later followed by successful trading between the settlers and the locals. In one such incidence that may have most importance was when one trader traded his cargo of African slaves for food. The slaves were first taken in as indentured servants to work in return for freedom, food or land.
