What is Behavior?

Behavior sits at the intersection of psychology, sociology, criminal justice, and organizational studies, making it one of the most broadly examined subjects in undergraduate and graduate coursework. What makes it academically compelling is its relevance to nearly every domain of human life — from how individuals respond to stress and social pressure to how institutions shape and regulate conduct. Courses in cognitive psychology, ethics, public administration, and criminal justice all use behavior as a central lens because understanding why people act as they do is foundational to addressing practical problems in those fields.

The papers archived on this topic reflect a genuinely wide range of approaches. Some take a theoretical angle, such as comparing behaviorism and cognitive psychology to examine how different frameworks explain individual action. Others are case-study driven, applying behavioral concepts to specific scenarios in criminal justice, corrections administration, and law enforcement ethics. Additional papers address applied concerns — fostering appropriate behavior in learning environments, analyzing safety programs, or exploring how stress affects performance within public organizations. Social influences on behavior and the role of kinship systems in shaping conduct also appear, pointing to a sociological strand running through the collection.

A strong essay on behavior needs a focused thesis that specifies which type of behavior is being examined, in what context, and through which theoretical lens. Evidence carries the most weight when it connects observable actions to underlying causes — whether psychological, social, or institutional. The most common pitfall is treating behavior as a vague, catch-all concept; scoping the argument around a specific population, setting, or framework keeps analysis concrete and persuasive.

Celebrity Endorsement Strategy: Nike and Federer Case Study
Using Nike's relationship with Federer as an example, the paper analyzes the use of celebrity endorsement strategy of the brands beginning from choosing the right celebrity figures until the final results of the strategy. Many industries promote their products by hiring the services of influential celebrities who advertise the products in question. The celebrity has to have various characteristics in order to be seriously considered as endorser. The company also has to take various steps to protect itself. The whole process of considering, finding, and finally hiring a celebrity is one that is done incrementally and thoughtfully with the whole, actually, occurring in four stages. Celebrity and brand are closely intertwined. Just as celebrity may profit the brand, the brand also effects the reputation of the celebrity. The company-endorser relationship, in other words, can provide potential benefits to both with both brand and endorser receiving increased attention and both benefitting from deal in various other ways. On the other hand, potential hazards include the fact that the endorser may overshadow the brand, may become involved in public controversy hence tarnishing the brand, and may be too expensive. Ultimately, research shows that the product has to be good to begin with and that The trend seems to be that celebrities are losing the appeal in marketing. A worthwhile product and ad will always attract notice regardless of endorsement. A poor one will fail for the same reason. Nonetheless, given the appeal of celebrities, it is likely that celebrity endorsement will always be around with their accompanying benefits and risks.

Community Policing Efficacy: Programs, Evidence, and Limits
The Violent Crime Control & Law Enforcement Act of 1994 heralded the beginning of a massive effort to reform policing strategies in the United States, in part through implementation of community-policing programs at the local level. Congress has allocated billions of federal dollars over the years since to support such efforts and by the end of the 20th century, close to 90% of all police departments serving communities larger than 25,000 reported implementing community policing strategies. However, empirical studies examining the effectiveness of this style of policing are limited and most reveal a modest improvement. This report examines studies that have revealed some of the factors that contributed to the failure of community policing programs to meet the expectations of policy makers. A lack of police organizational commitment and citizen leadership are major factors that have undermined attempts to implement community policing more fully.

Cognitive Effects of Brain Injury and Disease: A Review
The care of patients with brain injury and diseases has improved substantially over the last thirty years. Nonetheless, the acute cognitive effects caused by brain injury are still a problem for the survivors. Such impairments are substantial contributors to functional disability after brain injury and reduce quality of life for affected persons and their families (Schultza, Cifub, McNameea, Nicholsb; Carneb, 2011). Accordingly, it is important for clinicians providing care to persons with brain injury to be familiar with the cognitive squeal of such injuries, their neuropathophysiologic bases, the treatment options that may alleviate such problems, and their effects on functional ability and quality of life.

Nursing Leadership Theories: Comparison and Analysis
The work of Cherie and Gebrekida (2005) report that there is both formal and informal leadership in that managers are formally "delegated authority, including the power to reward or punish. A manager is expected to perform functions such as planning, organizing, directing (leading) and controlling (evaluating)." On the other hand, informal leaders are "not always managers performing those functions required by the organization. Leaders often are not even part of the organization. Florence Nightingale, after leaving the Crimea, was not connected with an organization but was still a leader." (Cherie and Gebrekida, 2005)
