From the earliest days of our Republic, government and private providers have struggled to meet the challenges of providing and funding adequate medical care to individuals living within the Country. Notably but not exclusively due to wars and depressions, the government and private providers saw individuals "falling through cracks" in the health care system, and repaired the cracks with legislation, funding and monitoring. The result has been a uniquely American health care system. Furthermore, that health care system will become even more unique as Baby Boomers increasingly join the ranks of the elderly, resulting in the need for greater health care, the need for some alternate funding for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and the need for a greater concentration on chronic diseases of the elderly.
Health advocacy campaign strategies and implementation
The policy problem addressed in this paper has to do with effective implementation of established programs for addressing childhood obesity in communities. Since, "there are reasons not to endorse the standard economic model's laissez-fire implications when applied to adults" and even more reasons when the model is applied to children (Anderson, et al, 2003). Moreover, children's lives are governed by their parents and by schools, but social conditions and policies have contributed to situations in which childhood obesity thrives. The provisions of en loco parentis may have more relevance today than ever before—schools must be enlisted to make meaningful changes that benefit the health of children and not just their intellect. The role of public health nurses in this arena is clearly one of advocacy, but an advocacy that is supported by an enormous corpus of policy and good will. It is only the political will—much of which resides at the local level—that is lacking.
Concepts across various domains and fields
Narcotics and drug abuse is common all over the world. The use of drugs dates back to 5000 BC (all the way up to the New Stone Age). Most drugs, at first were used for medicinal purposes. However, over time, they were introduced as being available for recreational use. It is the recreational use of the drugs, in large doses, that not only harms the user but also the community to which they belong. Most of the drugs have been derived from natural plants and herbs, and mixed with other ingredients to give a soothing, euphoric and relieving effect. One such example is opium.
Nursing community assessment principles and practices
It is moral responsibility of the Government and the nursing organizations to maintain the health standard in any country. However, it is not wholly in the hands of these organizations but other departments must also contribute for this cause.
This study is focused on the county of Astoria, Queens, New York for helping the nurses in doing their job in the right way. The study highlights the demographics, major diseases and problems in Astoria. Moreover, the health plan is proposed for dealing with the issues.
Change project management and implementation strategies
The organization at focus in this nursing change project and the nursing managers in cohesion implemented an evidence-based nursing practice model in the health care organization. As noted in the work of Keele (nd) there has been several models that have provided contributions on the conceptual level to the implementation of evidence-based nursing. One of these models is the Stetler model (Stetler, 2001), also included is the Iowa model (Titler, et al, 2001), the John Hopkins Evidence-Based Practice Model (Newhouse, et al, 2007), the ACE Star Model (Stevens, 2004), the Caledonian Development Model (Tolson, Booth & Lowendes, 2008), and the Evidence-Based Practice Model for Staff Nurses (Reavy & Tavernier, 2008). (p.75) The project described in this work in writing is reported as being effective and successful in the provision of health care to more patients and relieving the nursing staff of the work overload of traveling to several schools to conduct health care assessment and treatment. The nursing staff benefits from the telemedicine program but as well, the patient population benefits in that they no longer have such a long wait to see the nurse since telemedicine allows quicker access to the diagnosis and treatment provisions.
