Classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and observational learning theory have all had a major impact on education theories and strategies. This essay reviews these three theories of learning and then provides real-life examples of each. Particular attention is paid to the core elements of each theory, including positive and negative reinforcement, positive and negative punishment, and attention, retention, production, and motivation.

Islam was founded in 622 A.D by Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) in the Holy city of Makkah. It developed in the Middle East in the 7th century and according to Islamic Encyclopedia, Islam is one of the major and widely spread religions of the world (Campo, 2009). According to the doctrine of Islam, death is the end of a physical life. After this life, a new period of rest begins in which the soul remains in the kind of sleep. Muslims also believe that in this position of rest, the righteous people are able to see visions of God while the wicked see the vision of hell. This position continues until the day of resurrection comes which will be the beginning of a never-ending life.

User, patient and public involvement have all gained high priority in public policy and services. The Calman Hine Report in 1995 paved the way for user involvement in palliative care by recommending that cancer ser- vices should be patient-centered (Department of Health 1995). The National Health Service Cancer Plan (Ramsey & Blieszner, 1999) encourages user involvement in the context of recognizing the quality of cancer services as a national priority. There is a broader emphasis on patient/carer experiences and satisfaction with services. The UK government has established a Commission on Patient and Public Involvement for the NHS, headed by a 'participation czar'. In 2003, the government established a major NHS consultation - Choice, Responsiveness and Equity in the NHS and Social Care - which placed a specific emphasis on patient and user involvement and which directly involved service users in eight officially appointed task groups, including one focusing on long-term conditions, which addressed palliative care issues (Aday, 2005).
