What is Contrast?

Like a compare and contrast essay, a contrast essay asks you to choose two or more items and ideas and write about them.  However, instead of highlighting similarities between the two things, a contrast essay will describe how they are different.  It is important to note that, in order to have an effective contrast essay, there must be some similarities or shared middle ground between the things being contrasted.  A contrast essay that focused on the differences between a roller skate and the planet Jupiter would contain a lot of contrast, but would be almost incoherent.  However, a contrast essay that focused on the differences in Earth and Jupiter would start from the point where they are similar (planets in the same solar system) and then highlight differences.

Balance sheet structure in service and manufacturing companies
Financial analysis is critical to determining the intrinsic value of a company. Analysts, hedge funds, institutional investors and retail investors alike all use various forms of information to determine a fair price to pay for a security. This information is generally acquired through the financial statements of the particular company being researched. In addition to the many forms of information gathering within the market, there are also many philosophies that determine the underlying characteristics of individual investors. First, there is a value philosophy predicated on locating stocks well below their intrinsic value with a predetermined margin of safety to account for errors of judgment. This philosophy attempts to identify undervalued securities. Likewise, there is a growth philosophy which is focused primarily on the future growth trends within a particular industry. There are many philosophies that govern investment behavior with these two constituting the vast majority. No matter what the philosophy is of an investor, he or she will undoubtedly glance at the annual report of a company to help determine its value. The balance sheet is a great indicator of company value and management expertise

Fate in Association With \"Oedipus
There is much controversy regarding karma and the expression ‘every action has a reaction', as while some people feel that each of the experiences that they go through reflect on their future in some way, others believe that individuals write their own future. Sophocles' "Oedipus Rex" is primarily meant to emphasize the fact that it is impossible for a person to escape his or her fate. However, this play also makes it possible for people to acknowledge that there are more types of fate. It is thus difficult to take a side in a debate involving people who believe in fate and people who believe that they are the only ones in charge of their future.

Woody Guthrie the Most Compelling
The success of Guthrie's political message depends upon his ability to blend his protest with folk traditions, but his message's resonance is due to his insights into the inequality of American society. By examining the lyrics of "This Land is Your Land," one is able to see how Guthrie uses folk standards to contrast the idealized America with the bleakness of reality. Guthrie's influence on music and the culture at large stems from precisely this kind of insight and skill, because he is able to use the accessibility of folk to convey an important political message to people it might not otherwise reach.
