About This Topic

Like a compare and contrast essay, a contrast essay asks you to choose two or more items and ideas and write about them.  However, instead of highlighting similarities between the two things, a contrast essay will describe how they are different.  It is important to note that, in order to have an effective contrast essay, there must be some similarities or shared middle ground between the things being contrasted.  A contrast essay that focused on the differences between a roller skate and the planet Jupiter would contain a lot of contrast, but would be almost incoherent.  However, a contrast essay that focused on the differences in Earth and Jupiter would start from the point where they are similar (planets in the same solar system) and then highlight differences.

Effective management strategies: success versus outdated punishment approaches
There are good managers who lead their companies to positive results and then there are poor managers who use out-dated strategies (like punishment and intimidation) and those poor managers keep companies from flourishing. This paper uses 6 essays from a very recent book on management to point to those strategies that are successful versus those that are not. It is a very helpful series of essays, and when comparing my own company with the positive approaches by smart managers, mine looks backward and dull, because it is.

Impacts of the September 11 attacks on the United States
Both interviewee's gave different responses when questioned about if they feel safer now than they did after 9/11 events. Uncle replied that there is no question that we are safer because US has paid special attention to the problem of terrorism and Islamic radicalism. Several measures have been taken by America to protect its people so there are very rare chances that 9/11 types of events happen again. My friend on the other side gave a different reply; he was of the view that this is the era of Information Technology and it is almost impossible to stop the attackers if they intelligently plan to do something. He justified his statement by giving the example of recent blasts at Boston Marathon Race event in which 4 were killed and 100 injured.
