What is Countries?

The study of countries as a unit of analysis appears across a wide range of academic disciplines, including economics, political science, international business, public health, and education. Countries serve as a fundamental framework for comparing governance structures, economic performance, policy outcomes, and social conditions. Because so much data is collected and reported at the national level, courses in macroeconomics, global studies, and international relations frequently ask students to examine how governments make decisions, how institutions develop, and how national conditions shape everything from corporate strategy to disease prevalence.

The papers archived under this topic reflect a broad set of approaches. Economic analysis is prominent, with work examining growth models, currency and banking markets, and corporate mergers across national borders. Case-study approaches appear in papers focused on specific industries or business scenarios set in countries like Japan. Other papers take a public health lens, addressing neglected diseases such as schistosomiasis in national or regional contexts. Additional essays engage with international corporations, energy policy, hegemony and education systems, and language acquisition among ESL learners — all framed by how country-level factors shape outcomes.

A strong essay on a countries-focused topic begins with a clearly scoped thesis that identifies which country or countries are being examined and what specific issue is under analysis — government policy, economic growth, or institutional capacity, for example. Evidence drawn from national data, policy documents, or cross-country comparisons tends to carry the most weight. A common pitfall is treating "countries" as too broad a unit without specifying which national conditions, time periods, or policy contexts are actually driving the argument.

Apple's product development, supplier relations, and market strategy in China
China and Apple seem to have experienced a love relationship which is no surprise since Apple's products, although ‘designed' in California, are mostly produced in China. As recent as August, 2012, Canalys indicated that China accounted for 27 percent of global smartphone shipments overall in the quarter, compared with 16 percent for the U.S. (CNN Money). Apple's relations with suppliers are, however, more pessimistic. Apple's code of conduct in 2007 determined that "working conditions in Apple's supply chain are safe, that workers are treated with respect and dignity, and that manufacturing processes are environmentally responsible" (Duhigg & Burboza, January 25, 2012) The reality, however, as evidenced by working condition within the Foxconn factory proved otherwise, and Apple's workers, despite slight and voiced improvement, are still paid paltry wages with horrendous working conditions that demand improvement. Apple's present situation may best be summed up as shades of gray. Apple and China have maintained something of their flourishing relationship, but Apple seems to slowing somewhat due to external conditions. These mostly include their exorbitant price for their iPhone which is causing China, for the first time, to prefer other companies as suppliers. As of the last quarter, Android sold 100 million quarterly smartphone shipments and shared that No. 1 spot with Samsung who boasted a 31 percent share of the market. Apple and Nokia meanwhile claimed second two spots. But Apple still seems to be going strong.

Assessment and management advice for Herbert Chapman travel agents during retrenchment
Chapman's problems are not so surprising given the fact that starting from 2009 more Britons preferred to stay home during the vacation than travel abroad. It is surprising that Chapman's competitor in fact reported business. Were Chapman to have concentrated on local tourism instead, he may have noted greater profit for companies such s the Association of British Travel Agents remarked that tourism had increased in Britain during January 2009 and that companies that were focusing on British tourism (namely local tour operators) were actually reporting profit. In fact, research by VisitBritain, the tourism authority, indicated that 74 per cent of people were in fact actively working towards methods of cutting their expense and finding their relaxation at home as opposed to abroad..

International Financial Reporting Standards and US GAAP comparison
The differences between GAAP and IFRS guidelines are very important to consider. Without knowing what the differences are and how they affect companies in the US and abroad, investors can have trouble determining what they should do to assess the value of a company. That can cause them to avoid mergers and acquisitions that would be highly valuable, and it can also cause them to get involved in investments that could end up being detrimental to their financial health.
