The title of Anne Fadiman's book on the implications of multiculturalism in modern nursing sounds more like a religious testimony than a textual asset to the modern nursing profession.

Within every hospital, clinic, private practice or similar health care facilitator, a strict set of institutional protocols and policies is used to govern the conduct of physicians, nurses, orderlies and any other employees responsible for the delivery of health care at the highest standard. The John Dempsey Hospital at the University of Connecticut Health Center currently maintains a protocol regarding identification and treatment of patients who are suspected of being child abuse victims. Although this protocol is comprehensive in nature, providing health care professionals with clear guidelines to apply during interactions with young patients who are possibly being abused, the rate of reported child abuse cases deriving from the John Dempsey Hospital has fallen behind national and state averages. The purpose of this paper is to implement meaningful changes to the current child abuse policy in place at the John Dempsey Hospital, in order to increase the recent reduction in child abuse reporting.

Research indicates that children from lower socio-economic status are more likely than children from higher socio-economic status to develop childhood obesity, which makes these children more likely to develop health problems later in life. For this reason, childhood obesity is a significant problem. The research proposed in this study is one that recommends that this issue be examined in a research study.

Liam Matthew Brockey's book "Journey to the East: The Jesuit Mission to China, 1579–1724" describes the interaction between intellectual European priests and Chinese communities at a time when society had already experienced significant progress, both from an economic and from an ideological point of view. Brockey deals with how Christians attempted to promote their ideas in China and with how they struggled to perform a mission that they completely believed in despite the fact that they immediately encountered significant resistance. The second part of the book is concentrated on dealing with new information coming from original sources and that is likely to impress many readers.

This is a series of four papers that are reactions and comments on four different memoirs. The memoirs vary in tone, style, and content. A few are well-written, but each of them has something unique to offer. The commentaries offer a critique--sometimes scathing--of the writing style, grammar, and other elements of the narrative.
