What is Earth?

Earth as an academic topic spans a wide range of disciplines, from the natural sciences to the humanities. In science courses, it anchors discussions of planetary systems, atmospheric processes, oceanography, and global change, making it one of the most foundational subjects students encounter. Its academic interest lies in the tension between Earth as a physical system — with its surface, water, and atmosphere operating in dynamic balance — and Earth as a stage for human civilization, meaning-making, and environmental consequence. That dual identity invites inquiry from geology, environmental science, literature, religious studies, and beyond.

The papers archived under this topic reflect genuinely diverse approaches. Some take a scientific angle, examining unresolved questions in global change or exploring the role of optical instruments in advancing understanding of the natural world. Others engage environmental policy, such as how information and communication technologies affect environmental outcomes. Literary and cultural analyses appear as well, including readings of poetry that treats the earth as a living, symbolic presence. Still others approach the topic through theology, mythology, or identity, using earth as a grounding concept rather than a direct subject, with nuclear energy and oceanography representing more focused technical treatments.

A strong essay on Earth benefits from a clearly bounded thesis — covering the entire planet across all disciplines produces sprawl, so the best papers commit to one lens, whether scientific, cultural, or policy-oriented. Evidence drawn from empirical data, close reading, or documented case studies carries the most weight depending on the approach. The most common pitfall is treating Earth as a backdrop rather than an active subject; the strongest work engages directly with how Earth's systems or symbolic weight shapes the specific argument being made.

Film analysis and article summarizing
This order explores racism and colonialism as it is represented in modern media. It first goes to explore the meaning of the terms and how they are still present today. Then, it explores the film Ten Canoes as a way to show how film can be a powerful tool in keeping the voices of the past alive. It helps show the world before the violence and oppression of colonialism.

The research and mission reported by this article regards unique weather patterns occurring on Mars. According to data gathered by the Phoenix Mars lander and the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter data, there are clouds of water vapor on Mars and there is the only known stance of carbon dioxide snow falling in this solar system. The research on this phenomenon was first published in the Journal of Geophysical Research. The CO2 snowfalls occur in the southern hemisphere, around the pole during the winters on Mars. The data shows that carbon dioxide stays frozen on the Martian surface year round on the south pole. Most of the data analysis is performed at the California Institute Technology of Pasadena.

Water pollution causes and environmental impacts
This is a five page paper on water pollution. The earth is covered by water and, yet, overtime it has become scarce. Over 70% of our earth is covered by water; however, 97.5% of all water on earth is salt water and the rest, 2.5%, is fresh drinking water. Given that there is such a small percentage of drinkable water on the planet, it becomes even more devastating when that water is polluted by human beings who rely on it.

Accounting Theories and Business Decisions: The Business
In the previous section, two articles from leading business world sources were compared with each and it was opined that both the cases involved actions of agents, as permitted by the decision making authority delegated to them. However, in case of Interface, the exercise of authority of decision making was practiced in good-faith and resulted in serving the interest of all stakeholders. Stock prices of Interface increased over a period of time, profits and revenues got increased, wasteful production reduced, and consumer confidence in the firm increased. Interests of all stakeholders were served by the agents. The Financial Times article is a contrast to first article, whereby it is indicated that agents were distrustful and only acted to serve their own short-term gains while risking the credibility and financial worth of principals.

James Rarick Western Civilization II
The nineteenth century was filled with turmoil as a result of particular political ideologies receiving significant attention from the public and because imperialism started to be regarded as an effective tool to assist empires in gathering large profits. Even with the fact that trade influenced some powerful players to express interest in imposing a system promoting peaceful attitudes, it was difficult and almost impossible for other nations to refrain from considering war as the best solution to their problems. This century enabled the world as a whole to look at the social order from a different perspective – globalization was underway and more and more conflicts emerged as a result of people having differences in opinion. Conflicts occurring throughout the nineteenth century can practically be considered to have shaped the way the world evolved and to have influenced much of thinking expressed in the contemporary society. The twentieth century was very similar to the nineteenth century when considering the wars and conflicts that occurred throughout the past century. However, the fact that technology experienced significant progress and that the number of people grew rapidly as a consequence also reflected negatively on the numbers of deaths occurring through a conflict. The two World Wars were large enough to involve almost the entire world in a conflict motivated by a series of controversial concepts. To a certain degree, one can safely claim that the conflicts occurring throughout the twentieth century had more of an influence on the social order than any other events happening throughout this time period.
