However, as coffee creamer and margarine have demonstrated, there is risk of substitution even with long-established consumer staples.
The intensity of rivalry is becoming greater. Firms in both dairy and soy are fighting for market share, one because of market contraction and the other because of market expansion. Firms compete for shelf space at major retailers and because the products lack differentiation, firms in the industry tend to compete strictly on brand name, rather than product attributes. Overall, this leaves the industry moderately unfavorable. Soy is more favorable that milk generally, but milk is the much larger industry and for a sizeable, established player with strong distribution networks it is still a good industry to be in.
The regulatory environment is important to Dean. The federal government has a stake in agricultural industries because of the impact on the nation's food security. There are variety of programs and subsidies available…
S. that is no reason to sue the fast food franchises. These lawsuits "are an embarrassment to our legal system, and an embarrassment to the people who are saying they were so dumb not to know they might get fat" (Abrams, 2004). In fact on the day that Abrams wrote that piece for MSNBC the U.S. House of Representatives passed the so-called "Cheeseburger bill" which was legislation to "protect the fast food industry from frivolous lawsuits." (Abrams).
Abrams attacked John Banzhaf, the lawyer that has launched some of the suits against the fast food industry. Abrams says that Banzhaf is wrong to link the suits against tobacco with the need to sue junk food companies. In the case of tobacco companies, Abrams continues, "people were misled about what was in cigarettes" but the same deception doesn't apply to fast food. "People should know fast food isn't good for you," Abrams…

ith Domino's UK, the company has in its annual report and in its press releases outlined its future expansion plans. There are figures readily available with respect to trends in its same store growth and with respect to its dividend policy. All of these factors should, in theory at least, be included in the current share price. The first step in valuing the company will be to ensure that this is the case.
Given that the price of the company today is expected to be the fair value of the company's future earnings, an acquiring firm would need to consider in its valuation the worth of Domino's as part of its operations. Thus, a bid would need to be done on the belief that its acquisition of Domino's would make Domino's more valuable than it already is. This is the concept of synergy, defined as "the specific increases in performance…

Company Strategy: Whole Foods
On the surface, Whole Foods has a unique, almost counterintuitive philosophy. ather than stressing value and volume in terms of food sales, it instead offers more expensive organic and specialty goods. However, its niche marketing strategy has proven to be extremely lucrative. Whole Foods is an interesting case study as a company in the manner in which it has simultaneously capitalized upon popular trends in food without trying to be 'all things to all people.' In 2013, the company had same-store sales growth of 7.5%. It has rapidly expanded: "the company's growth strategy is to seek new locations for its stores in highly populated, often urban, areas. Each store averages around 38,000 square feet, and about 30% of the company's stores were acquired, meaning that they were other health-food stores that were bought out and re-branded as Whole Foods" (Frankel 2013).
Whole Foods' vision and mission…

Company Economic Forecast: Panera Bread
Explain the business you are in. Explain your business and the different industries that would impact your operation.
One new eatery that is still in the process of expanding nation-wide as a franchise of note is that of Panera Bread. As an emerging business, it is an excellent business investment prospect, far from 'bottoming out' as older, more established coffee cup centered franchises such as Starbucks. Unlike Starbucks, Panera is also known for the quality of its sandwiches and pastries as well as for its coffees and other hot beverages. It is especially popular as a lunch and breakfast establishment for eating in or carrying out, rather than for after hours lingering. Its main clientele is often slightly older than Starbucks, that of office workers -- hence its proclamation, upon its website that one ought to impress the boss with an order from Panera. (Official…

Implementation and Communication
In order to assure that a code of ethics is implemented to the best of its ability into a company, gradual implementation must be used along with clear communication as to each step of the process in order to assure that the code of ethics is fully understood and used within the company by its employees.
In order to begin implementation, a checklist regarding steps needed to begin code adherence could prove helpful in providing a smooth transition into code use. In the early stages of implementation, it is crucial that as many people as possible -- employees included -- are involved in both…

Wal-Mart specifically is pioneering the development of adio Frequency Identification (FID) projects with up to two thousand of its key suppliers today (Kumar, 2007). The goal of this pilot is to enable food and beverage suppliers to coordinate more effectively with Wal-Mart on mixed pallet mode shipping of products (Kumar, 2007). This is critical for Wal-Mart from the standpoint of supporting their expansion strategies into smaller, more diverse stores in terms of selection. The focus of Wal-Mart going forward will be on smaller stores in urban and suburban locations in the U.S., and smaller stores throughout their most successful global locations as well. The use of FID as a technology to enable greater logistics and supply chain performance is already showing signs of supporting much greater levels of shipping accuracy and cost control. FID tags can be read on pallets traveling at 40 miles per hour through warehouses and from…

Fast food has transformed the eating habits of the entire population, whether they are resided in UK, U.S., Asia or any other country. The changing trend of the eating habits evidently exhibits that fast food industry is one of the industries that have developed over the time. Even though fast food consumption has shown an increasing pattern of factors that has affected the health in many ways such as increased overall calorie intake, contribution to weight gain, and elevation in the risk for various diseases, yet, the consumption trend at the same time has represented an escalation in the recent years (Parsa & Kwansa,…

This is very important because it proves how the company has achieved organizational effectiveness through very simple, yet very effective motivational tools, such as the constant promotion of organic and healthy foods in a variety of forms and from a variety of companies.
Of course, with specific respect to its employees the company also utilizes tools such as benefits and rewards or recognition. One of the benefits of working at Whole Foods is that a person will be trained from the beginning of his or her career. Due to the environment of the store, all people are friendly, and it is truly a joy to go there, as it is bright, well-organized, and pleasant. On a more technical aspect, however, the company provides employee benefits as well.

In order to do this, it is imperative for one to go to the store and observe the interactions. Often times, the management is not present for example, and employees have no guidance. One must note such instances, as well as instances when the customer was being helped properly or otherwise. Furthermore, studies upon this topic must also be conducted, especially due to the fact that Whole Foods is such a great entity. It is imperative to see whether its products are truly organic and safe for consumers to buy and whether Whole Foods could benefit from more oversight. These are all ideas for future studies.

How Fast Food Restaurants are Reacting to the Shift to More Organic Foods:
To remain competitive, fast food restaurants have had to turn to
innovative products, often redeveloping their product lines, to meet the
changing demands of consumers for organic foods specifically, and healthier
foods in general. The demand for organic foods has been the mechanism for
industry evolution. As noted, McDonalds phased out their supersize menu
items, in response to society's growing health concerns. In addition,
they've begun to offer more healthy menu choices, such as low-fat items and
fresh salads, to their customers, as well as promoting healthy lifestyles
in their marketing campaigns. In the New England area, McDonald's even
replaced their coffee with Newman's Own Organic blend, in an attempt to
take further advantage of more organically-discriminating tastes of
consumers. This move has been well-received in the region[18]. In
addition, new fast food restaurants are being introduced…

Hong Kong Food Culture
Unlike many other cities, Hong Kong offers a unique case study in the effects of globalization on local economies and cultures due to its premier status as a nexus between China and the West. Over the years, and even through British rule, Hong Kong maintained its own distinctly Chinese culture even in the face of relentless influence from other countries and explicit attempts to manipulate Hong Kong culture. However, globalization has caught up with Hong Kong, greatly undermining the traditional Chinese culture, a fact seen most clearly in the case of Hong Kong food culture. Nonetheless, Hong Kong retains its Chinese cultural importance, such that one examining the decline of Hong Kong food culture cannot help but see the areas in which the process has been inverted as well, with Hong Kong culture serving to integrate certain foods or drinks into Chinese society. Thus, as globalization…

Schlosser: Fast Food Nation
The fast food industry has been infused into the every nook and corner of American Society over the last three decades. The industry seen to have originated with a few modest hot dog and hamburger of Southern California have been perceived to have extended to every nook and corner of the nation, marketing an extensive range of food products to which affordable customers are found widely. Fast food is presently provided at restaurants and drive-through, at stadiums, airports, zoos, high schools, elementary schools and universities, on cruise ships, trains, and airplanes, at K-Marts, Wal-Marts, gas stations, and also at hospital cafeterias. As per an estimate the total expenditure of Americans on fast food during 1970 was about $6 billion. (Introduction: Fast Food Nation - The Dark Side of the All-American Meal)
The expenditure had a massive increase to about $110 billion in 2000. Americans presently perceive…

One study indicates that "Although fast food provided one-third of some respondents' daily caloric intakes, those meals included almost no milk, fruit or fruit juices, which are important nutrient sources among key food groups. In fact, as the frequency of fast food consumption increased from zero days to two days, the intake levels of vitamins A and C, carotenes, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium decreased..." ("Fast food consumption increase obesity risk")
We must make it clear that our basic enemies in this case are the fast food companies and not the fast food itself. This is because despite being criticized repeatedly for lack of ethical consideration in preparing food, they have continued offering people with food that contains very high levels of fat and absolutely no real nutritional value. When we ask companies like Enron, Exxon and others to develop code of ethics and incorporate ethical values in way they do…

Another important factor for Italy is the fact that, although the food and beverage market is shrinking, certain geographic areas in the country are experiencing a lack of this service. This can be used to perpetuate the public perception of scarcity, which can then be mitigated by Kudler's products. In creating a communications strategy for Italy, the two main factors to focus on are therefore nice markets, specific brands and specific geographic areas where the perception of scarcity can be used to sell products (Aruvian 2010).
Advertising and Promotion Programs
Three distinct channels that can be used by marketers for maximum effect include the sales channel, the product channel, and the service channel (Kwik 2009). Specifically, what
Kudler needs to do in its target countries is to differentiate its products in the target markets. In Canada, for example, it needs to specifically differentiate its wines. Although there is an underserved…

The delay in issuing the recall order illustrates questionable ethics with respect to decision-making. hile the extra two weeks allowed Purina to capture additional sales at a time when competitors were announcing recalls, it also put more pets at risk. The stakeholder analysis that appears to have been conducted put the shareholders as the highest stakeholder. Purina management evidently viewed the health of its end consumers (the pets) as less important.
To improve the decision-making process, Purina should place additional emphasis on other stakeholders, in particular the end users and the people that purchase Purina products for them. In the long run, the pet food scandal has had limited impact on Purina sales, in particular because the fault was found to be based in China.
ith respect to communication standards, Purina needs to be more up-front and proactive in dealing with such scandals. The company looked like a laggard with…

So, putting the Rolly name on a product that is potentially unhealthy could do serious damage to the company's overall message.
Additionally, Europe does not currently have a market of low-calorie products because unlike the United States where that market is popular, Europe is not in need of such products. So, unlike the expansion of reduced fat products, reduced calorie products using artificial sweeteners would most likely prove detrimental.
Project 10: This project is a money sink for the company. While high-tech software may make some aspects of the business run smoother, the overall cost of updates and repairs is not worth the expanse at this time. Once the company stabilizes and sees market growth, then is the time to consider such proposals.
Project 11: This acquisition meets all three of the company's current goals. It would ensure profitability, aid in debt payoff, and allow new market shares. Additionally, the…

Popularizing akae Foods
ingapore is a multicultural society where many types of cuisines are available, such as Islamic-Halal, Indian, Chinese, Western, vegetarian and low-calorie meals. In order to attract and retain customers, akae will have to develop unique brands and menus that are available nowhere else. In order to be competitive, it will also have to provide a wide variety of foods at reasonable prices to appeal to various demographic groups. Each product has a life cycle of introduction, growth, maturity and decline, which is why the menu will have to be changed every two months, so that customers will not become bored with the same items. New foods will constantly be introduced during each decline phase.

Sakae should also expand its franchises overseas, including Western nations, where Japanese food has increasing appeal, and this become a true global brand. Over time, it could develop into the leading international chain of Japanese restaurants.
CONCLUSION
Sakae Sushi is a well-known Japanese food company that started in 1996 and has now evolved into a global brand, with more than 100 distributors and partners all over the world. Sakae has numerous competitors but it retains its advantages among its customer base of all ages, and its appeal for restaurants. Their product is not Western food, but traditional Japanese cuisine, and this is exactly what consumers want. In the future, the company is going to expand on the global level and give customers the opportunity to experience real Japanese food.
Ideally, this would be on designated days in a central location, like a public park, and food stamps could also be used to buy the produce there. This would require a coordinated effort by the mayor, board of health, parks and recreation department, social services and zoning staff to achieve, to ensure that farmers and other small producers were not hampered by red tape in their access to the community. After that, a second step would be to create a public health campaign in the schools, coordinated by the city's board of education, principals, and health education teachers. Schools would work with local vendors to increase the amount of fruit and vegetable-related offerings in school lunches city-wide, vending machines would be banned that sold unhealthy and highly processed snacks, and agreements with fast food companies to sponsor school activities would also be banned. If the school desired to do so,…

In the "question marks" category were introduced the products of the "Specialty channel," as they appeared in 2004 and tried to conquer a relatively new market for the company, that of the non-traditional products. Therefore, this attempt has not been proved to be a real success because, just as in the case of the natural, organic and frozen products, the market of the specialties had been reached by other companies and, even though the investments were quite high, because the offer of products was diverse, the growth has proved to be quite low.

Kudler Fine Foods
How does the organization compete in the marketplace? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the firm?
Kudler Fine Foods Company is dedicated to providing quality products and services to its customers. It is unique in the manner in which it delivers its products and assortments to consumers. For instance, the company stocks highly valuable gourmet products that are highly demanded by consumers. These products are unique as they are rarely offered elsewhere by competing firms. In addition, the customer service component allows it to charge premium prices to consumers. The company supplies many of the ingredients needed to create a healthy gourmet meal. As such, consumers have access to more convenience as gourmet ingredients are only offered by a few suppliers within the market place. By offering a large assortment, and combining this offering with superior service, Kudler Fine Foods (KFF) is attracting consumer market share…

PESTLE analysis: Fast food industry
Political
The recent backlash against unhealthy eating could prove to be difficult for the fast food industry. There are calls to limit the marketing of fast food products to children and to limit the sale of fast foods in schools. Given that children are such an important driver of sales, this could curtail the efficacy of many fast food campaigns, particular those with tie-ins to children's films and television shows. Campaigns like Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" campaign underline the importance of healthy eating and eating minimally processed foods. Although President Obama and the First Lady have been photographed eating burgers and they say that they are not against all fast food, the overall emphasis on the administration has been on restricting access to 'junk food' (Michelle Obama loves fast food, 2010, Slashfood).

GENETICALLY ENGINEERED FOOD OR ORGANISMS: SCIENCE'S ANSWER TO WORLD HUNGER
The introduction and use of genetically modified or engineered foods or organisms have attracted attention, mostly alarmed in recent years (WHO 2014). These foods are manufactured from organisms by artificially altering or engineering their DNA for nutrition purposes. This is done by infusing an edible plant gene into the organisms for immediate and ultimate purposes. One is to optimize production and increase the resistance to plant disease while tolerating the harmful effects of herbicides. Another is to extract them from genetically modified or GM microorganisms or animals for future use. Still another object or prospect is to alter the nutrients themselves in foods in order to control or prevent allergies they cause (WHO).
The target of the United Nations Organization's Millennium Development goals is to cut down the proportion of hunger this year into half (World Hunger Education Service, 2015).…

Many food companies have expressed an interest in the concept, Darsch says, although he notes that the material is not in wide use yet (Erickson, at (http://www.mercola.com/artcile/irradiated/irradiated_research.htm).
When Operation Desert Shield and the subsequent Desert Storm erupted, Darsch says, Natick was able to accelerate research on high heat stable chocolate bars. The resulting product, which can withstand temperatures as high as 120°F without compromising quality, arrived in the Persian Gulf prior to the end of the conflict, and Hershey Foods introduced the Desert ar to consumers Memorial Day weekend 1991 (Erickson, at (http://www.mercola.com/artcile/irradiated/irradiated_research.htm).This product's future has many applications in warmer climates, and in areas where air conditioning might not be prevalent.

The importance of marketing: Kudler Fine Foods
The food business is a very volatile industry. ecently, there have been several favorable trends that could possibly work in Kudler Fine Foods' favor: a trend towards buying more organic food, and an interest in exotic and imported goods. Consumers are more concerned than ever with the ingredients and history of what they consume. "Organic food retail sales reached an estimated $10.3 billion in 2003, up from $3.5 billion in 1997" (Dimitri & Oberholzer). However, because prices of organic foods tend to be higher than those of standard-grown products, demand can be volatile, particularly during an economic downturn. When people are concerned about affording basic necessities, buying organic is less important to them. Kudler must use marketing research to determine if demand for organics is continuing to grow at a rapid pace, or is leveling…

Reasons
The United States has allowed the use of genetically modified (GMO) foods for human consumption. This has led people to fight for measures to decrease exposure to GMO foods in America. From food labeling to encouraging the purchase of foods that are non-GMO sourced, these measures have painted a stigma on GMO. Several reasons exist for the removal of GMO foods. One reason is that most genetically modified genes inserted into the seeds that yield fruits and vegetables are derived from foreign species like bacteria and viruses (). These bacteria and viruses can cause harm to the human body in the form of sterility, allergic reactions, and deceased livestock.
For example, one article noted that GMO corn may change the histological structure of living organisms if they consume it long-term. The animal they experimented on were two albino adult male rats. “Marked ultrastructural changes of some enterocytes…
McDonalds also places strong emphasis on marketing to children, including the use of playgrounds in its restaurants. As a result, McDonalds is able to maintain some pricing power over its customers and to attract customers to its restaurants despite strong competition from a wide number of sources.
Issues and Challenges: McDonald's operates in a number of mature markets, where growth is slow. Growth is now focused not only on overseas markets but for the most part on less desirable overseas markets, the China and India excepted. This has slowed the pace of growth for the company in recent years. Another challenge has been the economic downturn that saw many customers reduce their meals away from home. The result of these two challenges has been that McDonald's saw a reduction in its revenue in fiscal 2009 (MSN Moneycentral, 2010).

Dog Food Company
Overview of the Company
Meow, Bark and Everything Else is an all-natural pet food company. The company has several lines of pet foods, created from local ingredients, starting with cats and dogs, and hopefully expanding to other types of pets as well. The products will be sold locally through a couple of different distribution channels. This presentation will focus on what those channels look like.
Distribution Channels
We intend to start with two different distribution channels. The first is to have a company store at the site where we produce the pet foods. This channel has several advantages that will help us to make this particular channel successful. A lot of those advantages stem from having complete control over this particular distribution channel The second distribution channel model will be to go through local pet and grocery stores in the area. There are a couple of other…

Genetically Modified Foods
' There has been a great deal of controversy over genetically modified foods (GMOs). First, many individuals and organizations oppose the concept of altering the genetics of foods for any reason. And secondly, there is a hot debate as to whether or not food manufacturers should publish / label their packages as containing GMOs. This paper covers the controversies and provides several angles to the debates.
The way in which companies modify food genetically is through " ... the use of recombinant DNA biotechnological procedures that allow the genetic makeup" of the seeds to be changed materially (Schneider, et al., 2014). There are two ways GMOs can be produced through "recombination": either by moving genes from one organism to another organism; or by making changes in genes within an organism "that are already present" (Schneider, p. 1). The changes that occur after being genetically engineered result in…

Dole and Chiquita - Organic Bananas
Production Differentiation
Going (Organic) Bananas
When it comes to bananas, Dole has long been at a disadvantage. Dole is association for most Americans with pineapples and with various shady dealings in Hawai'i. If you want to go bananas, you go to Chiquita.
This paper examines the marketing strategy currently employed by Dole Bananas, asking how well this company is doing against others in the banana business as well as asking from what other directions Dole might face competition in the future and how well it is prepared to meet those challenges.
Chiquita is indeed Dole's major competitor at least in terms of banana sales (it is not a significant competitor in terms of pineapples, for example) and the two companies have clearly tried in recent years to differentiate themselves from each other so as to grab a larger share of the market. This is…

eal Good Food company lost money in 2014, in comparison with turning a profit in 2013. One of the red flags that an auditor should look for is when a company records better performance -- there is little incentive to be gained from losing money. The gross margin in 2014 was 12.2% and in 2013 it was 14%. Because the company lost money, it did not pay the same rate of tax as when it made money, but that should not be the biggest red flag in the world -- again, losing money is not usually considered to be desirable.
The company noted an increase in inventories, from ?15 million to ?19.1 million. Thus, the inventory turnover went from 17.7 times to 14.2 times. Trade payables were ?21.28 million in 2013, but ?29.82 million in 2014. This is a significant increase, much larger than the increase in revenue that the…

personality traits do leaders like Todd McFarlane possess that distinguish them from other individuals?
The most obvious characteristic which distinguishes Todd McFarlane from other individuals is his tremendous artistic talent. McFarlane created the famous comic book series Spawn, and has generated a corporate empire based on his cartoon designs and toys. However, there are many talented artists in the world. McFarlane is unique in his ability to design art that taps into his reader's needs and desires without seeming overly commercial. He is also innovative enough to generate three-dimensional toys that are equally striking as his cartoons, and savvy enough to manufacture them to make a profit.
McFarlane merges two distinct personas within his character: artist and entrepreneur. He is able to capitalize upon his talent financially while still remaining true to his craft and not seeming to 'sell out' in the eyes of famously fickle comic book readers who…

In developing countries, consumers are more affected for two reasons. One is that consumers are more likely to buy raw ingredients. ithout manufacturing entities to absorb some of the commodity price increases, consumers are left to absorb almost all of the increase (Ibid.). As a result, food prices have increased more in the developing world than in the developed world. Additionally, consumers in these countries already expend a significantly higher percentage of their income on food than do consumers in estern nations. Thus, demand for food in the developing world is price elastic and consumers suffer because they are unable to meet their food needs.
In the developed world, increased food prices suppress demand in other sectors of the economy, which can cause minor shocks in employment and investment in some businesses and industries. In the developing world, food price shocks can result in starvation and civil unrest. The recent…

Foods Market Marketing Plan
Whole Foods Market, El Paso, Texas
Marketing Plan
The Whole Foods chain was founded in Austin, Texas during 1980, with just 19 employees and a single storefront. Today Whole Foods has grown to 310 stores throughout the United States and United Kingdom. The unique value proposition While Foods offers customers is the revolutionary concept of providing natural foods, locally grown and sourced from suppliers who can meet exacting requirements, free of artificial flavoring and preservatives. The mission of the company is summed up in the intersection of While Foods, Whole People and Whole Planet. The combining of these three elements is the cornerstone of the supply chain, sourcing, logistics, retailing and customer service success the company has achieved (Lewis, 2006). In defining the marketing plan for opening a While Foods Market in El Paso, Texas, the most critical success factors are to define the optimal product…

Take trail mix... It is an energetic, "idealized" snack food. This comes primarily from the target populations the manufacturer focuses it is marketing. Other channels for influence include consumers looking for "quick" fixes, such as families looking for fast and fun food. It would be interesting to explore the link marketing of "fast" snack products such as this have on families with young children, and compare this with the influence the product had on the political and behavioral habits and beliefs of the college students consuming it.
Lastly, symbolic systems help us better understand how products are systematically introduced and marketed to consumers. This helps shapes attitudes and beliefs. Also important to note however, as learned in class, is whether societies tend to accept or reject certain items even if marketed well. For example, oark (2007) noted that in many cultures certain foods or animals are taboo. Consider for a…

company is in a number of businesses, but primarily the overnight courier and the package delivery businesses. FedEx operates around the world.
The first big idea is that 'choices involve tradeoffs'. This applies to FedEx in a few ways. The company is offering a premium service to customers and charges a premium price for that service. There are a number of different services that FedEx offers, and these services compete with UPS and the USPS. The customer must decide what the right combination of price and service is going to be for the shipment. These choices will affect the total demand for FedEx and the type of demand as well. Understanding how consumers make these choices, especially with respect to the price of the different overnight delivery options, is going to be a key success factor for FedEx that allows it to set its prices closer to the point of…
In terms of product line the similarities are only identified in terms of a large business segment namely food production industry. Seaboard and Tyson has similarities in their business segment in relation to meet processing of pork. However Seaboard is pursuing a diversified portfolio in relation to wheat, sugar, and citrus. Whereas the business diversification of Tyson is in meat chicken, poultry, and other portion-based food segments. The overall industry holds a large number of businesses and all four companies have a different business segment. Hence the similarities for business line are not advisable.
The Industry however faces similar political, economic, social, legal, environmental, and technological environments to certain degree. The micro and macro environmental effects of economy are experienced in the industry thorough out the corporations. The companies are…

At the same time, they could be giving customers greater amounts of free items than are necessary (i.e. napkins, paper cups and plastics utensils). This is problematic, because it means that the underlying costs for these items will begin to increase exponentially. At which point, the expenses for food and other items will skyrocket. Given the fact that they are up so much, this is a sign that this is what is occurring. As a result, managers need to be able to control the amount of food that is being thrown away and how condiments are dispersed to customers. If they can be able to achieve this objective, this will help to reduce these costs. This is when the underlying profit margins of the restaurant will begin to increase. Global Food System
Multinational agribusiness is thriving, yet nearly 40 developing countries urgently need food to feed their starving populations (Lean, 2008). Food security is being held hostage by giant food and biotech companies (Lean, 2008). Profits take priority over solutions for the expanding global food crisis, and farmers in the developing world are not benefitting from their labors (Lean, 2008).
The profits and earnings of giant agribusinesses have increased dramatically, pleasing shareholders commodities traders across the globe (Lean, 2008). Few programs of scale sufficient to assist hungry people are established and implemented by agribusiness. Programs that are developed are a step in the right direction, but are too small to have much impact -- many critics see these programs as a form of public relations to ease the collective conscience and to signal corporate social responsibility. Many highly profitable companies engage in Fair Trade practices that ensure farmers in…

Health Public Good
Public Health as a Public Good
The United States has one of the lowest cost food options available to its consumers in the world. For an extended period, people assumed that this was a benefit of capitalism and that competition had helped push down the prices and made food available at lower costs through the market. However, many externalities have arisen in these circumstances that are now pointing researchers to question the consequences of having mass processed food available to consumers. The United States, as well as many other industrialized nations, currently has epidemic rates of obesity as well as the related obesity diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.
This trend is not restricted to just adult and the obesity rates among children have subsequently risen as well. This has made many instructions and activists compare the effects of poor diets and their health consequences to…

hat is the geographical location of the Mediterranean and why it would have an affect on the Mediterranean cuisine? (i.e., what is the Mediterranean's weather condition and what do they eat mostly, etc.).
Although the list of Mediterranean countries encompasses some of the oldest national cultures of the world, the so-called Mediterranean diet has gotten much popular recent press, because of its supposed contribution to an individual's longevity -- today, all people wish to be as long-lived as the influence of the countries that spawned the diet and enjoy the lowered risk of a heart attack the Mediterranean food and lifestyle supposedly conveys! However, the adaptation of the Mediterranean diet was a product of necessity, not a carefully controlled decision by the populace of the region to live longer and to create the perfect diet. (Barry, 2005)
All of the Mediterranean countries…

Company Is One That Is:
Achieving its stated financial and strategic objectives is an above-average industry performer is evidencing growth in firm's sales and market share is Positively viewed by shareholders and customers
hows Continuing improvement in operating performance (Thompson et al., 2006)
The problem is that immersed in the hurly-burly of routine existence, a company may be unaware of its objective performance; it may under -- or -- over-estimate its results and character of operations. This is where a WOT analysis comes into play.
The WOT strategy helps us analyze factors for improvement within the company. WOT is an acronym for trengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Filling in these categories requires research into the company in question, but the more intensive and comprehensive this research, the better we can answer the question and work towards designing a prospectus for improvement.
The WOT also tells us how well the company's…

As you all know the holiday party this year is slated for December 10, 2002. The company has about 400 employees therefore it is important that we begin the planning process as soon as possible. The planning committee has been formed and will begin to plan the party. The committee will meet once a month during lunch hour for the purpose of discussing progress and needs. Elevator Speech
As an experienced catering manager and self-proclaimed 'foodie', I am pleased to say that some of my most rewarding and fulfilling moments have involved creating, delivering, and even eating foods of all varieties. My passion for this subject started relatively young when, as a child, I would always look forward to the weekend breakfast of hotcakes, waffles, bacon, sausage and eggs my mother used to whip up for my sister and me. Before long I was following behind her in the kitchen and, when I got old enough to be left at home by myself, delighted in hours and hours of cooking. Most people get their first car when they turn 16; I got my first cookbook.
As a homebody I have always enjoyed preparing various dishes for my family and friends, so it was only natural that I turn this pursuit (or talent, as my father likes…
However, "although not as critical as going without water, missing even a few meals can cause a host of undesirable complications," such as lethargy, confusion and disorientation, poor judgment, a weakened immune system and the "inability to maintain body temperature which can lead to hypothermia, heat exhaustion and heat stroke." Much like studies done on surviving without water, exactly how long a person can go without food varies tremendously, yet it is dependent on several important factors, such as a person's overall state of health, the amount of muscle on the body which is "broken down by a starving body and used for both fuel and nutrients," the amount of body fat (an overweight person will normally survive longer than a thin or underweight person), a person's metabolism and the temperature of the environment in which a person finds himself; that is, a cold environment expends additional calories to stay…

Fast Food Delivery
Green Bean Delivery delivers fresh produce to the door of customers who sign up for deliveries. So instead of purchasing produce (fruits, vegetables, dairies) from the grocery store (and not knowing where they come from -- Mexico, California, South America), Green Bean Delivery does all the work for you. The only question is: where do Green Bean's products come from? To find out, some investigative work was needed. This paper will show who is behind the produce that Green Bean Delivery delivers straight to the door of its customers, how it is produced, what goes into the process of growing, harvesting, transporting and preparing the items that are then sorted and shipped to customers.
The number one claim of Green Bean Delivery is that it uses organic produce and natural groceries to please its customers. This is a great claim and one that makes a lot of…

restaurants and bars fail is that owners and operators fail to implement a food and beverage control system. Without one, they have no way of knowing if anything is missing or if costs do not measure up to standard. A control system is a necessary and beneficial tool in maximizing profit and keeping waste and pilferage to a minimum.
Profit Planning
One of the most critical aspects of food and beverage control is profit planning. In the final analysis, the profit generated must be sufficient to keep the business running and the owner pleased with the investment.
Three ratios are extremely important in profit planning:
Operating Ratio = Net Income efore Taxes / Net Sales: This ratio is commonly known as net profit to net sales. The higher this ratio is, the better. For example, in full service operations with an average check of less than ten dollars, the median…

Traditionally, beer bottles are made of glass -- a packaging material that has been around for thousands of years. Glass has been used to bottle beer since the early 20th century (Brody, Bugusu, Han, et al., 2008). ecently, Miller Brewing company became one of the first big-name brewing companies to use plastic instead of glass for beer bottles. Plastic has been shunned in beer packaging because of plastic is just porous enough to allow carbon dioxide gas to escape, also allowing oxygen in -- thereby spoiling the beer. Nanotechnology has allowed the carbonated beverage industry and beer firms specifically to capitalize on the lightweight and unbreakable features of plastic without sacrificing product shelf life or quality. Clay is the most common nanoparticle type used in the manufacture of plastic beer bottles. The addition of clay to the plastic extends the shelf life of the product to about six months (Silvestre…

Food Justice Movement and Its Themes
Intersectional Theory is the study of systems that intersect in terms of power structure dichotomies -- oppression vs. hegemony -- and approaches this intersection from the standpoint of focusing on how various variables (such as gender, age, class, etc.) interact with cultural, ecological, environmental, economical categories in different ways. In the food justice movement, "the social relations of food have been organized along lines of gender" with women predominantly in the role of food preparer, thus projecting woman's role in the world "in deep, complex, and often contradictory ways" (Allen, Sachs, 2007, p. 1). Yet, with the globalization of food through the rise of multinationals, the powerful role held by women in food preparation and production has been taken from them and placed in the hands of the corporations (Shiva, 2009, p. 17). Food simultaneously elevates and impoverishes women in terms of the social…

Management Structures Case of Walmart
The City and State where it is located
Firms today are facing fierce and strong competition and this has brought with it many challenges. To ensure their survival, companies must continually improve in both efficiency and effectiveness (Buble, Juras and Matic, 2014). Because of this, every organization must seek to exploit its workforce's potential, and the place of leadership in this can't be understated. Everyone knows that leadership is central in helping an organization achieve its goals and in aiding information sharing in the organization (Buble, Juras and Matic, 2014). Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is U.S.'s largest retail company and has been placed first by Fortune Magazine on Fortune 500 Index (Hayden et al., n.d.). The corporate strategy at Wal-Mart is constituted of dominating retail market, expanding in the United States as well as international markets, creating a positive brand and Company ecognition as well as…
