What is Food?

Food is a foundational subject in health-related coursework because it sits at the intersection of biology, public policy, consumer behavior, and ethics. Students across nutrition, public health, business, and social sciences encounter food as a topic because it shapes individual wellbeing and broader societal systems simultaneously. The subject draws academic interest precisely because food is both deeply personal and structurally complex — what people eat is influenced by corporate production, regulatory frameworks, cultural norms, and economic access all at once.

The papers archived here reflect a wide range of approaches. Some take a consumer and industry angle, examining how companies like PepsiCo develop products and train workforces, or how food corporations operate as analyzed in documentary form through works like Food Inc. Others focus on nutrition science directly, exploring the health benefits of specific foods or the clinical dimensions of eating disorders including bulimia and obesity. Policy and planning perspectives also appear, covering food safety, hazardous materials handling, and community nutrition programs such as Meals on Wheels. This variety shows that food in a health context is rarely treated in isolation from economics, ethics, or organizational behavior.

A strong essay on food in a health context needs a focused thesis that connects a specific food-related issue — a policy gap, a nutritional claim, a corporate practice — to a measurable health outcome or ethical concern. Evidence drawn from scientific literature, regulatory documents, or documented case studies carries the most weight. The most common pitfall is writing too broadly; covering "food and health" in general produces a summary rather than an argument, so narrowing scope early is essential.

Romeo and Juliet and Atonement: Love, Class, and Gender
Romeo and Juliet has always been one of William Shakespeare's most popular and successful plays, even though critics have sometimes dismissed it as an immature or sentimental work. In that respect, Atonement is not sentimental at all but rather grimly realistic, although the love of Ronnie and Cecelia also ends tragically. Both the play and novel have a great deal of seemingly irrational and senseless violence that destroys the lives of the main characters. In Atonement, the violence takes the form of a system that convicts Robbie unjustly of a crime he did not commit, and then gives him a choice of either serving in a war as cannon fodder or staying in jail. Cecilia and Briony also experience the violence of wartime London with regular bombing and endless numbers of badly mangled bodies that flood into the hospitals where they work. In Romeo and Juliet, the violence is the endless feud between the Monatgue's and Capulet's, in which Romeo kills Tybalt in retaliation for the death of his friend Mercutio. Great Britain in 1935 was not nearly as repressive and patriarchal as the Italy of the 17th Century which is the setting for Romeo and Juliet. Women had won the right to vote by that time, and were beginning to attend universities or work outside the home, as Cecelia and Briony Tallis did. Unlike Juliet, they were not being forced into arranged marriages contracted by their father, who actually seems indifferent to them.

How Dreaming and REM Sleep Affect Body and Mind
Dreaming is just one of the natural phenomenons that human beings do during the process of sleeping. Indeed, this natural process is not constrained to any particular characteristic and people with cultural diversity, all age groups and different social backgrounds dream throughout their entire lives. Since dreaming is linked to the mind and soul, thus it is considered that people will continue to dream until they are living (Hobson 2004).
