What is Hamas?

Hamas, formally known as the Islamic Resistance Movement, is a Palestinian militant organization that controls the Gaza Strip and has been designated a terrorist group by numerous governments. Students most commonly encounter this topic in courses on international relations, political science, criminal justice, and terrorism studies. The organization sits at the intersection of religious ideology, nationalist politics, and armed conflict, making it analytically complex. Its relationship to broader regional dynamics — including the Israel-Palestine conflict, the West Bank, and the involvement of outside state actors — gives the topic sustained academic relevance across multiple disciplines.

The papers archived on this topic approach Hamas from several distinct angles. Many take a profile or organizational analysis approach, examining the group's structure, founding ideology, and operational methods. Others situate Hamas within the wider War on Terrorism framework or compare it to other militant organizations such as Hezbollah. Historical narratives tracing Hamas from within Palestinian society appear alongside game-theoretic models of the Israel-Palestine conflict. Regional relationships — including Iran-U.S. tensions and Middle Eastern international relations more broadly — also provide context for understanding how Hamas fits into geopolitical alignments.

A strong essay on Hamas requires a clearly scoped thesis that distinguishes between its political and military wings or focuses on a specific dimension such as governance in Gaza, recruitment, or state sponsorship. Primary sources, policy documents, and credible journalistic accounts of attacks and negotiations carry significant evidential weight. The most common pitfall is treating Hamas as a monolithic entity without acknowledging its internal divisions, evolving strategy, and the contested legitimacy it holds among Palestinians.

Hamas the Word Hamas Is Derived From
The word Hamas is derived from an Arabic phrase, which means Islamic Resistance Movement. Hamas is the largest Palestinian political party that rules over the Gaza and is launched by the Palestinian Sunni Islamists. Presently, Khaled Mashaal is the chief head and Ismail Haniyah is the prime minister of Hamas. The headquarters are found at Gaza and in Palestinian territories (Matthew Levitt, 2006). The story begins with the killing of several Palestinians in a traffic accident done by an Israeli driver and stimulated Sheikh Ahmed Yassin (who was also the head of Muslim Brotherhood) and some others to start a "Muslim brotherhood movement" that made its way towards the creation of Hamas in 1987 (Matthew Levitt, 2006).

Palestine How Would You Feel if Someone
How would you feel if someone came in your home, took over and kicked you out? Surely, no one would like that feeling. Worse than that, that certain someone found it morally acceptable to be doing such an act and everyone was supporting him. The aforementioned scenario is the simplest version of the state that Palestinians are in today. Their situation is present on a larger and much more gruesome and violent scale. The best solution to this conflict is that justice should be done with Palestine. The history, current problems and possible solution will be discussed below.

Terrorism Linked to Religion These Days? Although
Why is So Much Terrorism Linked to Religion These Days? Although terrorism has been present ever since the beginning of recorded history, defining it may prove to be slightly controversial task. There is no universally shared definition as it's a highly subjective term that depends upon the point of view of the observer. However, there are three perspectives from which terrorism can be looked at and then defined. These perspectives include the terrorist's, the victim's and the general publics. The phrase "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter" is one that even terrorists may re-affirm, thus asserting the controversial nature of the term itself. The following definition released by the United States FBI, can be used to describe the nature of modern day terrorism:
