What is Health?

Health is one of the broadest and most frequently studied topics across academic disciplines, appearing in courses ranging from public health and nursing to sociology, business, and political science. Its academic interest lies in the way it bridges biological realities with social, political, and economic forces. Students are asked to examine not only how the body functions or fails, but also how systems are built to provide care, who gains access to that care, and what structural conditions shape a population's overall well-being. Questions about the ability to ensure equitable care, improve patient outcomes, and meet the needs of vulnerable groups make health a topic with both theoretical depth and urgent practical stakes.

The papers archived here reflect a wide range of approaches. Some take a policy and reform angle, examining healthcare systems and the role of bodies like the Department of Health and Human Services. Others focus on occupational and workplace dimensions, assessing safety risks and hazards in specific environments. Several papers adopt a sociological lens, exploring the extent to which illness is a social rather than a biological condition, including the health impacts of social exclusion on groups such as Sudanese refugees. Additional work takes a planning or business perspective, covering topics like strategic planning for healthcare organizations and operational models such as sleep lab development.

A strong essay on health succeeds by establishing a focused, arguable thesis rather than a general survey of the field. Evidence drawn from clinical data, policy analysis, or documented case outcomes tends to carry the most weight. Writers should connect individual cases to broader systemic patterns — showing, for example, how lack of prenatal care access affects infant outcomes at a population level. The most common pitfall is treating health as purely biological and neglecting the social, economic, and institutional factors that shape whether patients can access and benefit from care.

Legislative strategy and policy development approaches
The self-executing rule, also known as ‘deem and pass' has recently been criticized by Newt Gingrich and Joe Scarborough. The self-executing rule is a method of procedure that the U.S. House of Representatives use to approve legislation. This rule is in the form of a simple resolution and serves to specify which bills are under consideration by the House. When the House votes to approve a rule that in inclusive of a self-executing provision, the House at the same time agrees to dispose of a matter that is separate as the self-executing rule specifies. This allows modifications or amendments to bills to be passed simultaneously to the bill underlying the modification or amendment. While this procedure does serve to streamline the process of legislation, and is reported to have been used on 85 different occasions in the five years between 2005 and 2010 (Oleszek, 2005, Matt, 2010, and Montgomery and Kane, 2010) , this procedure is questioned by some legal scholars in regards to its constitutionality. (Linkins, 2010; Barbash, 2010)

Tuna Harvest and Production Describe
Among the world's supply of fish used for food, perhaps no other species remains as sought after across all cultures than the saltwater finfish known as the tuna. From the "white meat tuna" of the Albacore, to the massive and highly prized Atlantic Bluefin, the tuna fish has historically been considered as vital a foodstuff for coastal nations as cattle within landlocked locales. Since the advent of canned tuna in 1903, the fish has become a staple food source across nearly all cultures, from the standard tuna fish and mayonnaise sandwich packed in American schoolchildren's lunchboxes to the thinly sliced Yellowfin tuna known as maguro in Japanese sushi dishes, largely due to its relative affordability and concentrated nutritional value. Unlike the majority of oceanic fish consumed by mankind, the majority of tuna species possess muscle tissue that is tinged in pink and reddish hues, largely due to their red myotomal muscles containing increased amounts of the oxygen-binding molecule myoglobin (Sepulveda et al., 246).
