This article aims at interrogating and making conclusions on matters regarding the management of firms, and the obligations that managers have in controlling the firms. Different topics regarding leadership and management will be analyzed. To be precise, definitions will be given for management and the paper will concentrate on the management of audit firms when dealing with financial scandals.

This paper covers some of the early theorists in management. It specifically covers two in more detail. These are Favol and Demming. It is remarkable to study the early management theorist because their contributions are as valid today as they were when they were originally introduced. Favol's point on equity, justice, and fairness seems like to could have prevented some modern day economic tragedies.

Abstract An investigation of different management thoughts and leadership theories is carried out. In this paper, evolution of management is mapped out from Frederick Taylor with the scientific management, Henry Gantt (1901), Frank Gillbreth's (1900) time and motion studies. This includes modern operational management theory by Henri Fayol (1916), behavioral sciences pioneers like Walter Dill (1911), Max Weber (1947), Hugo MÜnsterberg (1912), and Elton Mayo's Hawthorne studies. Leadership theories discussed include trait theory, great man theory, contingency, transformational, and behavioral approach. A comparison is done of the contingency theory, Fiedler's contingency theory, House's Path-Goal theory, and Adair's Action-Centered approach.
