What is Insight?

Insight refers to the sudden or developed capacity to understand something deeply — whether about oneself, others, systems, or situations. As an academic topic, it appears across a wide range of disciplines, including psychology, business management, personal development, and literary studies. What makes insight academically compelling is its dual nature: it functions both as an internal cognitive and emotional event and as a practical tool for driving change in professional and personal contexts. Courses in organizational behavior, human development, clinical psychology, and the humanities all engage with how insight emerges and what it produces.

The papers gathered here reflect a genuinely broad set of approaches. Some are personal and reflective, focusing on individual growth and life span development, while others apply insight to management challenges such as cultural diversity and group motivation. Literary analysis appears as well, with essays examining works like The Great Gatsby and "The Story of an Hour" for what they reveal about self-understanding and experience. Scientific and case-study approaches also feature, covering topics from theories of criminal behavior to the use of flight simulators in investigations, showing how insight operates as both a subject of inquiry and a method of analysis.

A strong essay on insight needs a focused thesis that specifies what kind of insight is being examined and in what context — personal, organizational, or interpretive. Evidence drawn from concrete experience, case studies, or textual analysis tends to carry the most weight. A common pitfall is treating insight as a vague feeling rather than grounding it in observable outcomes or clearly argued interpretation.

Evolving frameworks for measuring IT value and performance
The progression of how enterprises measure information technologies' (IT) performance has been a progression from inward-centric metrics of performance to advanced analytics that capture contributions to strategic objectives. Chief Information Officers (CIOs) often measure their performance by cost reduction and system consolidation while Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) measure IT by the contribution to new business growth (Trkman, McCormack, de Oliveira, Ladeira, 2010). There are many strategic frameworks that enterprises use to map the contribution of IT, with the Porter value chain being the most prevalent (Porter, 1986). The intent of this analysis is to evaluate the most critical metrics that an enterprise can use to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of IT. These metrics also fuel the methods used to measure toe economic value of an IT department to a given enterprise as well. This aspect of measuring IT value will be defined in addition to evaluating the models used for measuring the economic vale of an IT department to a company. Finally there is a brief discussion of whether or not traditional financial ratios and measurements must be applied to measuring the value of IT or not. In reality these metrics are often only showing a part of the Return on Investment (ROI) of any IT investment. To get the complete picture of performance, enterprises needs to align their IT efficiency and effectiveness measures to specific strategy performance, and the Porter value chain is ideal for defining these interrelationships (Porter, 1986). Financial metrics only provide part of the insight into the ROI of IT needed.

How social networking sites are redefining privacy and personal information
Public information is defined as being suitable for use across a very broad range of segments, audiences and interest groups of a given population. One of the main attributes or characteristics of public information is its applicability and relatively low level of harmfulness to any person or institution (Hugl, 2011). Public information is often deliberately created to support a given communications program or plan and is evaluated in terms of its overarching value to the entire population of a region or country. Lastly, public information can be as if not more valuable than private information, in that it contains useful, insightful analysis and ideas, including recommendations, of how to solve complex problems. Private information hasn't got through the same vetting and analysis process that public information has, and often contains insights and data that is very harmful to institutions, organizations and people. For companies and people alike, private information often incudes their most vulnerable and weakest areas, in addition to insight into their strongest as well – that is precisely why it needs to be kept private (Hugl, 2011). Private information carries with it an explicit responsibility to manage the value of it widely and with discretion as a person's and organization's life can change rapidly if it is not used well. Private information is also the most potent as it can completely change the perceptions others have a person or organization, and often does (Asiimwe, 2010).
