Leadership Styles
elationship- and Task-Based Leadership Styles
In leading groups and organizations, managers and leaders alike adopt different kinds of styles or approaches to be able to achieve specific objectives. These objectives could include establishing rapport and cohesion within a group, be it from a team or organizational level. Another objective that a leader could aspire to achieve is to focus on accomplishing the task or work at hand, regardless of the nature of the relationship between the leader and his/her team members/employees. Alternatively, a leader might aspire to maintain both relational and performance aspects of his responsibilities for his/her team or organization. Thus, s/he would work deliberately to maintain a balance between maintaining good relationships with group members and successfully accomplishing the task assigned to the group.
The types of leadership described above are illustrative of either the relationship-based or task-based leadership. elationship-based leadership style is characterized by a kind of leadership…

Leadership Styles
In many ways the United States offer the ideal case study for examining different leadership styles, because its particular process of election and governance presents opportunities for each leadership style to flourish. In short, while the election itself favors a charismatic leadership style, the success of the executive branch depends on a transformational leadership style, and the interactions between the executive and the legislature can only be characterized as transactional. This dynamic is partially due to the structure of the United States itself, as well as cultural and traditional standards that have developed over time. By examining how the different types of leadership are favored at different times and places in the governance of the United States, one will be able to understand not only how organizations actually encourage and shape certain leadership styles, but also how certain leadership strategies intended to generate change actually work to perpetuate the…

I agree with most of the author's findings especially those that relate to gender, culture, trust and likelihood of voting influenced the outcome of the Democratic Party primaries in 2008. This was prominently displayed from the numerical display of predictable voting patterns in some states and these states had predominant cultures and races that made it possible to foretell or predict how they will vote and/or whom they will vote despite the policies of the party, the basic consideration would be the candidate himself. However, I have some reservations about some of the writer's pronouncement and assertions that attention should be placed back upon transactional leadership which was initially criticized for being less effective than transformational leadership in the modern (Quader, 2011). Transactional leadership is experienced when there is element of exchange, or aspect of reward and…

Leadership Styles -- Mentor Observations
Primary Form of Leadership
My mentor's leadership style is mostly democratic or participative. This form of leadership is particularly effective in a clinical setting as it encourages teamwork, collaboration and use of the collective experiences of multiple skilled staff members. This leadership style may also be described as democratic, where the leader encourages participation and input from other staff members and followers.
Participative leadership enables multiple members of a group or team to participate in the decision making process, which can strengthen a groups achievements, motivation and dedication (Clark, 1997). While ultimately the mentor has the authority to make final decisions, he or she does so guided or influenced by the wants, needs and desires of employees. This form of leadership is particularly useful when knowledgeable and skillful employees interact in the workplace and have knowledge that may help the leader make informed decisions.

This is a very good example to get a clear idea of what kind of people Level 5 leaders are. They are inspirational because they are good human beings, modest and humble, yet very willful at the same time.
A possible successor to Executive A, Executive B, exhibits more of a Transactional type of leadership. Transactional leaders believe that there is an association between effort and reward. These types of leaders often believe in very standard forms of incentive, reward, and punishment. Transactional leaders often set goals for their subordinates and they offer rewards when the subordinate has done a good job with the task. Transactional leadership depends on the leader's ability to reinforce subordinates for their successful achievement of their end of the deal.
Executive B. is a perfect example of a Transactional leader. He believes in a clear chain of command and in rewarding good performance. He believes that…

When a leader puts in extra hours, lends an ear to the grievances disgruntled employees, and takes a 'we're all in this together' the employees are more likely to try to weather their difficulties.
Discussion 2 think most of our leadership styles are somewhat situational -- no one, unless their role is very limited with the organization, is likely to be called upon to do the same thing, day after day. One of the things I like about a Human Relations Specialist style is how showing empathy and consideration, as well as taking suggestions employees 'on board' can be a profound, if subtle, motivational tool. Even when subordinates don't know best what to do, trying to shape their responses through guidance is more effective than simply directing them, or worse, telling them they are wrong. Soliciting input from subordinates and adopting at least some of their suggestions is likely to…
So many times leaders are faced with situations in which one particular leadership theory does not always fit. Every employee within a company is different from the next and thus should be dealt with on an individual basis. This type of leadership allows for the manager to assess the current situation and set goals for the outcome. It then allows them to observe and monitor the progress of the situation along the way and make changes as necessary. It also allows for feedback to given in regards to the process as a whole.
A manager who utilizes this leadership style will provide themselves with the opportunity to remind themselves in each situation that all people are different and should be approached as an individual. It allows for changes to be made along the way during a process. If things are working out then it offers a framework for rethinking the…

A boss who preaches burning the midnight oil but goes home at 5pm, leaving everyone else to labor long hours on a hectic Friday night, will garner little respect. Employees are just as mindful of what their boss is doing as he or she is of what employees are doing. It is essential to 'walk the walk' as well as 'talk the talk.'
Showing care and concern cannot be underestimated, either. Helping employees through difficult times is also a way to foster loyalty to an organization. Who will be more loyal, an employee who is forced to punch a clock, regardless of what is going on at home, or an employee whose company shows respect for her need for flex time, to take care of her young daughter at home? An employee who feels that his or her company cares is less likely to take needless sick days, to be…
It has been suggested further that the transformational leadership is a special type of transactional leadership because both leaderships are goal oriented. The difference comes from the way methods used to motivate people and the goal sets (Hater & Bass, 1988). Thus, one model is based on the leader's power to inspire followers and the other is based on the leader's creativity regarding the reward system. The goals are usually higher for the first type of leadership, whereas for the second type the goals are more operational. Avolio (1999) suggested that transformational leadership comes to augment the transformational one.

Leadership
In order to effective, efficient, and profitable, an organization needs a good leader. However, leadership styles differ greatly, and what works for one organization may not work for another.[footnoteRef:1] This paper will thus attempt to describe four points: [1: The Art of Leadership. (2011). Retrieved October 1, < http://www.nwlink.com/~donclark/leader/leader.html>.]
First, it will address a human service organization selected to complete the given Leadership Matrix.
Second, it will compare and contrast task-oriented internal leadership with task-orientated external leadership, as requested by the assignment itself, and explain which style is appropriate with regards to the points made in the first task.
Third, it will compare and contrast people-oriented internal leadership with people-orientated external leadership, as given in the assignment and also explain appropriateness, as above.
Lastly, it will explain insights and conclusions on leadership styles and patterns.

This attribute shows Nicholson's ability of decision making, and keeping firm when protecting his subordinates. Saito, on the other hand, gets mad and smacks the colonel's face with a booklet, after which he goes ahead to through the book on the ground, demanding with an authoritative mood, that the officers need to work. This symbolized an autocratic leader, who hardly needs any confirmations or opinions from his subordinates on the way to make decisions.
After giving orders to no avail, asking the officers to do manual labor, Saito goes to the extent of threatening to kill Nicholson and most of his officers due to their defiance. However, due to the presence of many witnesses, Saito, who is evidently a dictator, relents to his own intentions, and decides not to harm the officers under Nicholson. Saito has…

As the workplace turns out to be increasingly complex and multicultural, the cry for effective leadership has been answered by a growing popularity of leadership studies in various programs. Even though students may have the choice of majoring in leadership at a variation of universities, real intended outcomes may range from merely the study of theory to actual skill development. I think that it this report is important because students really need to learn what it means to be a leader that is effective. Cunningham, ( (2013) makes the suggestion that leadership needs to be imparted early and frequently. With that being said, this paper reviews the importance…

Starbucks vs. Tim Horton: Mission Statements and Leadership Mission and vision statements are important in any industry setting because it gives organizations directions on what to do for them to achieve their goals and objectives. They are important because they guide every step and action that is taken within and outside the business. Its influence can be seen from the way it touches on the operations of the organizational leaders. Often, it is possible to predict the leadership style used in business by looking and analyzing at its mission or vision statement (Roderick, 2016). For example, Starbucks mission statement reads, ‘To establish Starbucks as the premier purveyor of the finest coffee in the world while maintaining our uncompromising principles as we grow.’ The mission statement confirms the company’s commitment to servant leadership. In contrast, Tim Horton’s mission statement reads ‘To be the industry leader through commitment to excellence in people, product…

Changing Diversity and the Workplace
Introduction
Changing diversity is a major trend affecting the U.S. workforce and the demographics of virtually every organization. Demographics are destiny, as the common saying goes (Wolfe, 2017), and in the U.S. the future is being determined right now: families are shrinking, the population is graying, and the U.S. workforce is becoming more diverse (Buckley & Bachman, 2017). This diversity includes increases in women in the workplace as well as changes in demographics “by gender, by ethnicity, by culture, by religion, by sexual preference and identification” (Buckley & Bachman, 2017). There is also likely to be multiple generations of workers in the same workplace which can lead to its own management and leadership challenges, for each generation will have its own needs, strengths and weaknesses as far as managers are concerned (Krahn & Galambos, 2014; Moore, Everly & Bauer, 2016; Schullery, 2013). This paper will discuss these…

Leadership Style: What Do People Do When they are Leading?
Hewlett Packard (HP) remains one of the most successful computer and related services company in the Diversified Computer Systems industry. In this text, I concern myself with the leadership style of Meg Whitman -- the CEO of HP. In so doing, I will amongst other things analyze how her leadership style aligns with the company's culture. I will also examine Whitman's strengths, weaknesses as well as personal and organizational values.
Born in 1956, Whitman has over the years earned herself an enviable reputation as an efficient and brilliant corporate executive keen on making a mark in a corporate environment dominated by men. Having cut her teeth at Hasbro, Stride ite, Disney, and most notably eBay where served as CEO for a decade, Whitman rose to become the head of HP. She has also in the past tried her hand in elective politics…

Finally, the free reign style sees that the manager allows the staff members to make most of the decisions, with his responsibility revolving around the final outcome.
All the achievements of Dr. Manmohan Singh point out to the fact that he has managed to successfully implement all leadership styles when the situations arose and required a specific approach. Otherwise put, it becomes obvious that when he possessed all the information and a decision had to be taken rapidly, he implemented an autocratic leadership style. Then, when he needed additional data, he listened to those around him and based his decisions on what others had to say. Finally, whenever he was facing tough situations and could not resolve all problems on his own, and most importantly, when he was surrounded by capable and trustworthy staff members, Dr. Manmohan Singh implemented the free reign style by delegating responsibilities to his subalterns.

Leadership Style of oehner
John oehner, the speaker of the House, is one of the most reputed men among the Gang of Six. oehner has always raised his voice when matters of taxation were discussed in the Congress or the House. At the same time, he has adopted a leadership style that has set him apart from other politicians and has made him popular among the Republicans as well as the Democrats.
oehner has always believed in politics of consensus and that is what defines his leadership approach. However, he was still unable to convince Obama when he tried to negotiate the "grand bargain" on the ever growing federal debt. Obama was also seen to accuse oehner for not being able to pass a bill in his chamber, since it was rewritten so many times. In the middle of these accusations oehner, the Speaker of the House, also left the floor two…

Leadership style being employed in the case study covering the City Academy Bristol is what some experts might call participative and/or collaborative leadership. A collaborative leadership style allows for all participants to have a voice, and in this case study, the students are asked to assume the role of leader and participant while engaging in activities that call for collaboration, and participation. As one recent study determined "collaborative leadership practices that involve employees in workplace decision-making have been shown to increase commitment" (Steinheider, Wuestewald, 2008, p. 145), and in this study increasing the commitment level of all the stakeholders (including; students, teachers, administrators and parents) is one of the primary goals of the study.
One of the benefits derived from a collaborative leadership style is that it fosters creativity. Students (and other participants) are often called upon to work together and become highly engaged in projects and the decision-making process. Another…

Leadership Style Book Review: Summary of Book
"Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be broken," reads the quotation on the title page of 17 Essential Qualities of a Team Leader: Becoming the Kind of Person Every Team ants, by management guru John C. Maxwell. The word 'leadership' on its own often brings to mind rather stultifying and outdated modalities of leading by command, much like a general, or cliches about being true to one's values. Besides, few readers will be put in charge of a military unit, or hold the title of CEO -- but virtually every individual who participates in the business world will one day either lead or be part of a team designated to work on a particular product or target area of interest for the company.
To suit the needs of today's marketplace and corporate structure, thus John C. Maxwell offers a different concept and ideal…

Thus, in comparison to King's leadership style of pacifism and quiet strength, Powell's is a style involving the characteristics of confrontation, sacrifice of personal desires for the best interest of the groups, and confidence in the leader. While Powell's leadership style does not make him a better leader than King, it certainly exemplifies the fact that leadership styles must change based on circumstance. King's quiet strength gained him the respect he needed to become a champion of the civil rights movement. Powell's confrontational attitude gave him the motivation and confidence he needed to confront other nations in the name of peace.
Finally, Harriet Tubman's leadership style involved a combination of the styles and characteristics advocated by both King and Powell. Tubman's situation as a slave and eventual leader of the Underground ailroad forced her to accept the confrontational style of Powell to some degree. She displayed both confidence in herself…

Leadership Styles Among Male and Female Principal
It is the intention of this research to study the leadership and cognitive styles of teachers and instructors of both genders within the educational system and their preference for types of leadership in a principal of that institution.
The research will include teachers and educators from all levels of the educational system from grade school to high school. The study will also include teachers and instructors from all major academic fields of study offered in public and private schools. The studies conducted thus far in the educational arena indicate that teachers are equally inclined towards different cognitive styles.
Teachers prefer a mix of idealist, analytical and realistic cognitive styles of leadership in their Principals. Studies have also indicated that teachers prefer that principals are people oriented and task oriented in their approach to running the school or institution. In addition, teachers also prefer that the Principal…

In this article the authors surveyed 17 principals in multicultural schools in Cyprus in order to find out what leadership styles worked best. The issue is relevant because immigration means new challenges for education leaders. About half of the 17 principals embraced a transactional leadership and "conservative multiculturalism" although another group adopted a style more in tune with what the authors call "critical multiculturalism embedded in critical and social justice leadership."
Leadership Style Application
The leadership style adopted by different companies and how these companies motivate their employees should be that which can work in multicultural context. This can enhance employee productivity and job satisfaction. Cross-cultural motivation is imperative in a person's work and personal life. People work for various reasons. Some work so that they can access economic necessities like food, housing, and clothing. Some are motivated by what work provides other than money like achievement, honor, and social contacts (Bedrow & Lane, 2003). Others work because they have some emotional attachment to work. Studies have shown that the higher the mean-work centrality score, the more motivated and committed the workers would be. Maslow's upper level needs are very important at managerial levels. Leadership Style
Perhaps it is the subliminal desire to be a teacher. Or maybe it is that I never had the opportunity to actually stand in front of a room and instruct. Whatever the reason, I see myself falling into the leadership role of teacher and mentor.
A enjoy the different personalities and styles of people. That could be one of the motivations for being inclined toward this type of leadership. Teaching or mentoring is a very interpersonal type of leadership style. I get satisfaction from seeing and encouraging others and sharing information with them. In return, I learn a great deal from them as well. I also gain greater self-esteem when people tell me I am doing a good job or thank me for helping out. It is a real boost to the ego.
In a classroom setting, at parties and casually talking with friends, when playing sports and in meetings, I…
Leadership in My Community
In my community, our church had always wanted to do something to give back and provide assistance to people but no one in the parish could decide on an appropriate task. I came up with the idea of having a ravioli dinner to celebrate the community's Italian heritage and having an all-day benefit by selling pots of ravioli (the community could come in with whatever size pot they had and fill it up with ravioli for $10 a pot) and giving the proceeds to the local homeless shelter. I utilized my servant leadership skills to help move this idea into action by leading others through giving them whatever assistance they needed. I surrounded myself with like-minded individuals from the parish -- about half of dozen (to help organize) and asked them what they needed to make this idea a reality; through these discussions I was able to…
Therefore, culturally endorsed leadership theory may require some degree of code-switching (employing different languages or emphasizing and de-emphasizing certain cultural elements) on the part of leaders in order to maintain the balance of general attributes associated with positive leadership. In general, however, there is less of a reliance on the leader as an individual in this type of organizational leadership style, and more of a reliance on universally perceived leadership qualities.
Another fairly efficacious style of leadership for contemporary organizations is transformational leadership. Transformational leadership theory seeks to actuate a change by empowering the various individuals that comprise an organization with the tools necessary to perform their jobs better. Transformational leadership may require a restructuring of a company's objectives, or a reevaluation of the best ways to achieve those values. Oftentimes, transformational leaders are charismatic and are endowed with natural leadership attributes that endear them to people. Their goals are…

There are several other reasons in favor of participative management: employees take pride in the responsibility they have been given and work hard to prove their worth; changes that occur are accepted more easily than in the case of autocratic leadership; there is a strong relationship between manager and workers and when the first identifies problems in various areas, he can turn to his employees for help.
In a nutshell, the democratic way of running a company promotes a horizontal organizational structure rather than a vertical hierarchy and its main advantages revolve around: team work, strong and honest relationship between manager and employees, open and clear communication and encouragement of individual's creativity.

Meg Whitman is the Chief Executive Officer at Hewlett-Packard (HP). This is a computer manufacturing firm based in California, USA. She started working at Hewlett Packard way back in 1989, but it is from the year 2009 that she became the CEO of this company. During her youth, she attended Harvard Business School where she got the true learning about leadership. Outside the business field, she also involved herself in politics at some point by vying for the Governor's post in California. She also managed to win the primaries in 2010 but lost the gubernatorial race. Meg Whitman is among the wealthiest women in America with a value of 1.9 billion U.S. dollars. She is also seen to be the most influential woman in the corporate circle. Her stint at HP is the most remarkable. She has turned around HP's fortunes for the better (Whitman, &…

leadership style is one of the most important factors that determine cross functional teams' success. Research and practice in the field have revealed several types of leadership theories, such as trait, behavioral, situational contingency, participative, transactional, and transformational theories. Each of these leadership theories introduces several types of leadership styles, amongst which the most frequently met in private and public organizations are autocratic or authoritative leadership, democratic or participative styles, transformational leadership, and others (Ricketts, 20). It is difficult to determine which of these leadership styles is the most efficient, as the need for a certain style depends on each situation. The table below compares and contrasts three key variables found in these theories.

They will need others to contemplate on some issues as well as complete the required tasks. Therefore, an ENTJ leader will need to accompany a team as expected. That is to say, that a team player should remain incorporated in the leadership processes, if this is a necessary component that will enable completion of the set task. Here, one will establish that the leadership associations remain a two-way corporation/correspondence to enhance personal freedom. In addition, the development of the policies in for instance the community healthcare provision, will have established structures that allow effective coordination of activities involved such that implementation of the appropriate strategies are done as expected (Sperry, 2002). Still in as the working as a team is concerned, organizations structure that concern making decisions, and essential detailed examination of the elements of the structure to answer the arising questions are vital considerations. The CO's leadership style is very much ad hoc -- in terms of his contempt for what he sees as overly theoretical book knowledge, it is also firmly based on his own long experience. To some degree it recalls the fascinating research done by Malcolm Gladwell in his book Blink: Gladwell researches the possibility that snap decisions in many circumstances are more likely to be correct than laboriously researched and deliberated ones. Gladwell estimates that ten thousand hours of intense activity are required to gain real competency or fluency in an activity, and it is clear from the captain's age and the length of his command that he has seen many years of service and can now afford…

When it comes to different leadership styles there are many different types to choose from. At the same time, there is also no concrete consensus as to the one style that can be called the best. Depending on the situation, a particular style will be most suitable; even so, one needs to check whether there is in fact a correlation amid business type, team dynamics and culture, as well as age in order to find out the one style that is used the most. This article will be examining the different methods of managerial leadership to find out which ones are the most pragmatic and considered to be the best (Boykins, 2013).

Furthermore, there are a number of similarities and overlaps between such leadership theories that do not prevent their being characterized as transformational in nature. For example, "Most leaders behave in both transactional and transformational ways in different intensities and amounts; this is not an entirely either-or differentiation" (Miner, 2002 p. 743).
One of the more interesting issues to emerge from the research is the need for transformational leaders to teach what they know to others. Certainly, it would be reasonable to assume that most leaders got where they are by virtue of some innate skill or ability within an organization, and while it would likely be easier - and faster -- for them to simply do some things themselves, teaching others how to become effective leaders in their own right is a fundamental responsibility and effective leaders and serves to differentiate a truly transformational leader from others leadership styles: "True…

In recent years, many researchers have been attracted by the topic of emotional intelligence (EI) and leadership style. Their interest in the area is based on claims that effective leadership style and Emotional Intelligence are linked. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and leadership style giving emphasis to transformational in organizations and countries by incorporating the concept of organizational culture. The future existence of agencies has been determined primarily by their ability to adapt to continuous change. As such, the study also looks into unveiling the actual role of gender in determining leadership style and Emotional Intelligence as effective areas of organizational behavior. In concluding the research, the study looks at limitations and gives recommendations for further studies in this field.

Leadership Styles of Sam Damon and Courtney Massengale
In the military setting, it is very common to hear statements like 'you are acting like a Courtney (Sam) on that issue'. Courtney Massengale and Sam Damon are the two main characters in the novel, Once an Eagle by Anton Myrer. The two are portrayed as significantly different army officers in a story that revolves around the key themes of unchecked ambition, devotion to country, career over family, corruption of power, ethics and morality, good vs. evil, and heroism. Both are portrayed as ambitious, dedicated, and aggressive men dedicated to the service of their country and its people; however, whereas Sam acts as a selfless, caring, and kind commander, Courtney presents himself as his exact opposite -- a charming professional out to portray a can-do image at whatever cost, even if it means stepping on his subordinate's toes just to get things…

She worked at a number of Fortune 500 companies and eventually found herself at the head of an Internet startup, eBay. Her leadership there allowed the company to grow rapidly and become one of the most important sites of the early Internet era. eBay remains important to this day, testament to what hitman and her team built. In 2012, she was brought into Hewlett-Packard. The company was in a bad operational and financial situation at the time and hitman was assigned to revitalize the tech giant (Anders, 2013). Malcolm X and Leadership
The Leadership Styles of Malcolm X
Malcolm X was a natural born leader, according to Manning Marable in his biography Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention (2011:33). What made him so was his incessant drive and ability to command others through repetition of "pet themes" as well as his ability to speak rapidly and overtop others (Marable 2011:33). In his early days before his conversion to Islam, Malcolm X demonstrated a remarkable effectiveness as a "leader of the pack" of assorted hoodlum with whom he fraternized. In this sense, contingency theory best applies to this stage of Malcolm's life, because given Malcolm's social context at the time, his style of leadership -- assertive, combative, and harping -- fit the situation and the type of people with whom he operated: people who respected only muscle and might, of which Malcolm had the intellectual and willful kind. In his later…

Leadership is a major organizational resource, demonstrated by individuals via a wide range of skills and talents (Lester, 2015). Leadership represents a key means by which individuals change others' minds, moving people and organizations forward for achieving established aims (IAAP, 2009). Several leadership models exist, with some of them proving to be rather effective and helpful. However, rapid transformations in the world, particularly in the last decade, owing to emergence of globalization and extensive adoption of information technology, have led to drastic changes in workforces' behavior and expectations. One cannot now lead a workforce using conventional techniques of the past, if one desires to leverage staff talents and achieve optimal performance. A majority of successful companies today seek knowledge workers -- well-trained, skilled and experienced individuals desiring to utilize their abilities to their optimum potential in a work setting…

This would not be possible without vision, focus, passion and above all good leadership style that Gates exhibits among his employees. Bill gates has been known to display a mix of three major leadership styles, the autocratic style of leadership, participatory leadership and laissez faire leadership style.

Leadership Best Practices
Introduction
Military leadership depends upon the ability to motivate, support and drive the team to accomplish the mission. Leadership styles are diverse in the military and can include everything from the autocratic style to the servant leadership style. The key to employing best practices in military leadership, however, is to understand the needs of the situation, the needs of the stakeholders, and the needs of the moment so that the right strategy is employed for the goal to be achieved.[endnoteRef:2] This paper will discuss leadership best practices, particularly how sharing leadership best practices can help individual, group, corporation and military success. [2: For this reason, Stogdill asserts that contingency theory is the best way to explain how leaders should perform.]

Branson
Describe Branson's leadership style in terms of the leadership models addressed in Chapters 10 and 11 and evaluate the likely effectiveness of that style in the U.S. today.
Sir Branson's leadership style is the combination of authentic and transformational. He believes in hiring staff that have the skills to perform effectively. he authentic leadership style leads the way to his skill to work with the understanding that people make mistakes and they can be corrected while the work continues. As a transformational leader he demonstrates the capability needed to foresee company development, inspire and empower staff. With these attributes it requires him to have balance as a leader in the day-to-day working environment while creating a productive work environment and focusing on company goals.
According to Chapter 1, "Leadership is the process of developing ideas and a vision, living by values that support those ideas and that vision, influencing others to embrace…
This leader is known as a risk taker and someone who is always looking for new projects as attempts to elevate his business to new levels. With the input and help of a strong management staff, Virgin Group is comprised of retail, air travel, financial, music, books and telecommunications. Branson is at the helm of a multi-million dollar global business, so his leadership style has proven to be quite successful with his decision-making and people skills.
He developed his entrepreneur ability at an early age. As a person who by society's standards was not successful academically and suffered with dyslexia, he never let others define him. Instead what some saw as a weakness it was used to his advantage, while pursuing his dream of being a top business leader. Overall, his inexperience and personal treatment from others helped with creating a strong commitment to treating people with respect. "Virgin Group is an organization driven on casualness and data, one that is bottom heavy rather than one that is made difficult by upper-level management. (Richard Branson/Herb Kelleher-Leader Extraordinaire, 2012, Pg. 1).
For a number of years Branson has been leading global teams by recognizing how valuable staff is to the success of a business. The additional skill needed is to be aware of the societal and organizational culture and global laws that affect business. In Chapter 11, "Societal culture is shared motives, values, beliefs, identities, and interpretations or meanings of significant events that result from common experiences of member of collectives and are transmitted across generations (Hellriegel & Slocum, 2011,
Eye Beholder', analyse leadership styles shown Bert Donaldson members
There are a number of mistakes that Bert Donaldson made in terms of properly demonstrating global leadership in the anecdote "The case of the floundering expatriate." In all fairness to the executive, these mistakes were actually reinforced if not directly created by other members of his management team at Argos Diesel. The principle mistake that Donaldson, his supervisor Steve Waterhouse, and Argos International's CEO and chairman Bill Loun made was assuming that leading overseas, European workers and employees would be similar to doing so with American workers. This assumption proved to have extremely noxious ramifications, because it overlooked the salient cultural differences that exist between countries and continents, and which directly affect employee productivity and worker morale.
Furthermore, these individuals actually exacerbated this initial mistake by continually harping on the previous success of Donaldson. Both Donaldson and Waterhouse continually reflect on his…

International Leadership
Leadership style is a part of cultural distinctiveness. Among the western nations, American leadership style has been developed in the United States and the German leadership style embraced in Germany. France has it independent style. Likewise, in Asia a variety is present, and, Japan has promoted its independent distinctive style. Corporate leadership continues to be a quintessence of every nation's old cultural legacy. (Globalization and Japanese-Style Leadership) Since the bygone forty years, thoughts on management styles have been influenced primarily by the American management model and later by the Japanese. The fundamental supposition has always been the presence of a management model specific to a nation as an effect of the national cultural heritage. (In Europe, does national culture induce a particular management style

When used in a team setting, this leadership style facilitates the sharing of ideas thus increasing the team's probability of success.
However, the participative leadership style is not considered effective when time is of the essence i.e. when a leader is short on time. Given its very nature, this leadership style invites subordinates to make key decisions alongside the leader. However, there are those scenarios where consultations could end up being counter productive i.e. when any sort of delay in decision making could trigger substantial losses. Secondly, this style of leadership is not effective in those scenarios where a significant level of distrust exists between a leader and subordinates. Such distrust could end up getting in the way of consultations. Further, the quality of suggestions offered in this case remains largely questionable. Also, in those instances where the leader and subordinates do not share common objectives, this leadership style may…

As a result, economic development was redefined in terms of reduction or elimination of poverty, inequality, and unemployment within the perspective of a growing economy (Mamede & Davidsson, 2003).
Research indicates that entreprenuership can be both the cause and effect of economic development in the sense of wealth distribution. Countries in which wealth is concentrated in the hands of a small fraction of the population face greater difficulties in coordinating the major components of progress (Mamede & Davidsson, 2003). hese three components are labor, capital, resources and innovation. According to Mamede and Davidsson (2003), considering that the three driving forces of entrepreneurial success - founders, opportunity recognition, and resource requirements - are more likely to occur in a combined way, there are better chances to prosper in regions in which wealth is more equitably distributed. hese researchers have also observed that members of such societies are in a more favorable…
The 2002 GEM report also indicates the changes in the percentile of the growth of gross domestic products over a three-year period. Sweden's percentile of growth in gross domestic products for 1999 was 4.51%, in 2000, 3.61%, and in 2001, 1.21%. The change from the previous year for Sweden was -.90% from 1999 to 2000, and -2.40% from 2000 to 2001. Sweden's total entrepreneurial activity for 2001 was 6.68%, and for 2002, 4.00%. China's statistics were not located on the 2002 GEM report.
The GEM report also indicated a constantly negative relationship between the quality of the infrastructure and the level of necessity entreprenuership, as well as the lack of relationship between framework conditions (Reynolds et.al, 2002). Necessity entreprenuership was most prevalent in developing nations such as Thailand, India and China, where financial support, education, training, and infrastructure are clearly absent (Reynolds et.al, 2002). Entreprenuership-enhancing programs and policies implemented in a number of developed countries, principally in the European Union, have only resulted in modest levels of necessity entreprenuership (Reynolds et.al, 2002). This research indicates that there is substantial uniformity across the GEM countries with regard to the concepts, language, and judgments utilized. Additionally, it supports the notion that this uniformity is especially prominent among the more developed nations and may have evolved very similar infrastructures in support of entrepreneurial activity.
Most new firms receive their initial financial support from informal investments made by family, friends, and associates. An extremely small proportion of the most promising firms receive funding from venture capital firms, which are a specialized form of formal investment. Informal flows were estimated in the 2002 GEM report by means of asking all those in the adult population surveys if they had made an investment in a new firm, not their own, the past three years. The 2002 GEM report indicates the amount of venture capital invested as a percent of gross domestic product for each of the countries on the report. Nations that enjoyed year-to-year increases included Sweden, with a 101% increase. A large portion of all businesses are owned and managed by families or groups of relatives. Sweden was one of the 10 countries in which family owned businesses were started with family sponsored entreprenuership. In Sweden, the low estimate of family sponsored entrepreneurships was 26%, with the high estimate being 52%. Again, China was not included in these statistics.

Leadership Styles
Leadership styles vary between different leaders, based on their values, attitudes and approaches towards tasks and employees. The case provided with Executive A, and Leaders B. And C. demonstrate the different styles of leadership which may be adopted by those in charge of an organization. The paper will start by looking at the style of each leader, examining the evidence in the case provided that indicates the chosen style. After the assessment of styles, the potential impact of Leader A or B. taking over from Executive A will be discussed.
The three styles of leadership that are present in the case study are Level 5, transactional and transformational leadership styles. Executive A this is a level 5 leader, leader B. has a transactional style, and leader C. has a transformational style. The identification of leadership style is achieved by examining the attitudes and behaviors of the leaders in…

In addition to his role as political leader, Yoast leads from a symbolic framework. He had coached the team through fifteen successful seasons and therefore the entire town of Alexandria, the school staff, and the players all respected him as leader even after he was demoted. Yoast's spunky daughter looks up to her dad as a symbolic leader and because of her passionate involvement with the team, she also serves as a symbolic leader in the movie. Yoast symbolizes effective leadership in Remember the Titans, due to his self-sacrificing approach to teamwork, his ability to triumph in the face of adversity, and his visible successes on the gridiron.
Yoast's demotion itself can be viewed from within a structural and symbolic framework too. Because of to the social and political changes taking place in American society and at the administrative level of the school system, Boone replaced Yoast as a token of…
Ursula Burns
In February of 2010, Ursula Burns became the chief executive of Xerox Corporation. Burns has successfully led the Xerox Corporation through difficult financial straits, by divesting much of the outmoded commodity-based business strategies towards a broader service-oriented one. epositioning the company has enabled Xerox to weather the economic storms, poised for a bright future. A large part of the reason for the positive outlook for Xerox is the leadership style of Ursula Burns, and the corporate culture Burns subsequently creates.
Several leadership theories can provide a foundation for describing Burns' leadership styles and philosophies. Trait theory suggests that Burns's success as a leader is partly or fully rooted in her innate personality traits: her notable extraversion, toughness, and commitment to the Xerox company. Burns is known for being assertive, as well as creative in her approach towards managing the company and managing organizational change, too. The President of the United…

27). King very definitely understood the challenges facing the movement for justice. He knew he couldn't master all of the challenges but he was effective at planting the seeds of change in the hearts and minds of his followers. In Chapter 3 the authors discuss "cross-cultural communication" and King's "Dream" speech (and his "Letter") both communicated vital messages not just to blacks, but to all of America. King's "Dream" speech ended with words that embraced many cultures: "…all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics…" will join hands and sing "Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

Departmental Improvement and Leadership Styles
The procurement or purchasing department is one of the most critical departments in the retail store that I have just joined. It is entrusted with procurement of items that are to be sold in turn as well as purchasing the other items that are needed for the daily running of the chain store.
However, there are a few incidences that have been noted in the chain store that are tainting the image of the procurement. The problems have to do with the employee participation as much as the technical aspect of procurement. This paper is focused on identifying the various problems or hitches that are experienced in the retail store, the sources and the possible remedies to them and of greater interest is the employee association and coordination in order to help solve the problems.

Motivating Leading leadership styles "Autocratic vs. Democratic Essay Question: What culturally contingent leadership behaviors attributes? What positive leadership behaviors traits universally accepted facilitate
Intercultural management
The culturally contingent leadership behaviors and attributes are team-oriented, participative, charismatic, self protective, autonomous, and humane Deresky, 2011.
A team-oriented leader is a leader who is integrative, diplomatic, and collaborates with others in his/her team. A participative leader is considered to be a leader who delegates the decision making of the company and also encourages other subordinates to take responsibility. A charismatic leader is one who inspires the subordinates, visionary on the long-term goals of the company, and is performance oriented. A leader who is conflictual, self-centered, and status conscious is defined as a self-protective leader. Humane leaders are viewed as being compassionate to their subordinates and employees. Having or demonstrating compassion will show the employees that the leader is caring and is concerned of their needs.…

Gender on Leadership Style and Employee Job Satisfaction
"The glass ceiling" emerged as a widely employed metaphor in the nineties to account for inaccessibility of organizational leadership posts for females. Even today, females continue to encounter a number of challenges when aiming for leadership positions (Ayman & Korabik, 2010). Research scholars recognize the broad significance of culture and situational contingencies as contextual factors governing leadership, whilst also presenting leadership or governance as a largely gender-neutral phenomenon. As of 2010, the labor force of the U.S. comprised of approximately 72 million women (aged 16+); i.e., 58.6% of American females above 16 years were employed, with 40% of the working female population either in professional or managerial roles (Jackson, Alberti & Snipes, 2014). In this paper, gender's impact on personnel job satisfaction and leadership approach will be studied, by reviewing scholarly literature on the subject.

Leadership Style and Emotional Intelligence
In today's competitive world, it is the professional organizations that lay the foundation of much of the social structure. Today's corporate and professional offices are considered important venues for an interactive growth sphere. Thus, the aspects of emotional intelligence (E1), leadership style and gender are now surfacing as really important aspects to understand the overall associative quality and nature of these workplace relationships and how these can be advantageous to the companies that pay attention to their quality (Quader, 2011). We now see a rising interest in how leadership can have an influence on emotional intelligence and vice versa. Especially in the past 2 decades, we see more research and findings being dedicated to the subject matter and so far more results and conclusions are coming to the surface. Quader (2011) in his recent study also highlights how emotional intelligence affects gender differences in the workplace.…
Employees' job satisfaction and success is tremendously influenced by managers. Studies show that men and women have varying preferences for the choice of the gender of their manager. Several studies have concentrated on this matter. Unfortunately, the outcomes of the studies are inconsistent. This paper, therefore, seeks to review past findings of research with the intention of exploring and casting light on the relationship between the variables in the modern workplace (Jackson, Alberti, & Snipes, 2014).
Effect of Gender on Leadership Style
Available research shows that men and women face different evaluation parameters in their leadership roles. Success in performance for a man is often attributed to the internal characteristics of the man and his skills and abilities. On the other hand, success for a woman is attributed to external factors that relate to a situation. These include the simplicity of the task or chance. There is a general perception that men…
56th President of the United States which has represents an unprecedented race in the American Democratic Party between Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. he relationship of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton's leadership styles from the perspective of four distinct variables: gender, culture, trust and likelihood of voting. he author believes that the perception of fairness is the single most essential leadership trait which leaders should acquire in order to garner trust and commitment among voters. Consequently, the author also believes that this also applies to leadership in the business world.
he article conducts a literature review that focuses on different aspects of leadership. here is some controversy in the study of leadership as the author alludes to. here are several research studies that show that there is empirical evidence to suggest that leaders play a critical part in an organization working toward organizational goals. However, some of works have…
The article continues to illustrate various components of leadership and how they are presented in the literature with Obama's and Clinton's leadership styles and campaign messages as the focal point. For example, the article mentions that Barack Obama's winning Democratic Party Nominee Elections campaign, his change message in particular, was far superior in 2008 from an ethical standpoint. This seems to be a fairly loaded assumption that is difficult to test empirically.
He contrasts Clinton's campaign as a more top down approach based on her political life that allowed her to mingle constantly with the political elite. By contrast, Obama's career formed from a more bottom up approach in he worked as a community organizer in Chicago. It is noted that transformational leadership can be facilitated by the level of trust in the leader. Therefore, based on these criteria, it is assumed that Obama's level of trust based on his bottom up career development would be higher and more legitimate among the populace. Although this seems like a reasonable statement, it is still highly speculative without any empirical analysis being conducted on the two candidates.
The actual experiment works to test some of the hypotheses that were generated in the literature review. The independent and dependent variables were measured with a survey that used the Likert Scale to measure responses. The study concludes that the leadership styles of Obama and Clinton are striking different. Barack Obama was perceived as a transformational leader while Clinton was perceived more as a transactional leader. Although I intuitively agree with the study's findings, the evidence that is presented is subject to some skepticism. There are a plethora of limitations that the study had to overcome to be able to test the hypothesis. One obvious one was the sample size. Another limitation that the author alludes to is the cultural variables of the sample which oversimplifies culture into either East or West categories as opposed to more specific geographies. Although I found the article interesting, I'm not sure that it adds significant value to the study of leadership.
