What is Music?

Music is one of the most expansive topics in academic study, appearing across disciplines including the arts, humanities, psychology, education, and cultural studies. Students engage with it in courses ranging from music theory and history to sociology and early childhood education. What makes the subject academically rich is its dual nature: music functions as both a formal system of sounds, harmony, and form, and as a deeply cultural force capable of reflecting and reshaping society. Works like William Grant Still's Afro American Symphony and Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring, along with philosophical texts such as Plato's Ion and Republic, give students concrete material through which to explore these dimensions.

The papers collected here take a wide variety of approaches. Some are analytical, examining specific compositions like Robert Schumann's Dichterliebe or the theoretical elements of harmony and form. Others are historical and cultural, tracing African American influence on American popular music or the impact of race relations and the civil rights movement on rock and roll. Personal and reflective essays also appear, exploring individual enjoyment of or connection to music. Applied angles include music's role in early childhood movement education, its effects on memory, and its use alongside relaxation techniques for post-surgical pain relief.

A strong essay on music benefits from a clearly scoped thesis that commits to one angle — historical, analytical, psychological, or cultural — rather than treating the subject too broadly. Evidence carries the most weight when it connects specific musical examples, cultural contexts, or research findings to a central argument. A common pitfall is treating music's emotional impact as self-evident; strong writing explains the mechanisms, whether stylistic, cultural, or cognitive, behind that impact.

Attachment review and analysis
Decisions in business should be based on sound intuition and factual data. Oftentimes management has to make a judgment call of whether to evaluate from projections or from objective analysis of the circumstances. It is important for those in business to have proof to back the reasoning for making a decision which is sound and reasonable. According to Bazerman and Moore there are six main steps to making a sound decision this structure can be used for any problems requiring a resolution. The methodology is considered useful due to the fact that consistent results can be documented (Bazerman and Moore, 2005).

The Gregorian chant is considered by experts to be part of the foundations of religious chants, dating back to the first centuries of Christianity. Despite the fact that along the time, it has known several variations and influences, it remains one of the most significant liturgical accompaniments for both the Catholic and Orthodox churches. The present research considers the evolution of this genre and points out the main contributions to the way in which religious sermons are conducted as well as the influences it had in time over religious chants and even modern music today.

The studio also determines the nature of the end results, which include adding texture, layering, and other sonic effects.

Teach to the Test as William Hatfield
As William Hatfield presciently warned in 1916, when the ultra-efficiency of industrialization first begin threatening the independence of educators to craft curricula, "an education that focuses on memorising information to ensure reaching a single benchmark is an inadequate measure of success" because while "twelve years of school life has made [students] adept at memorizing … many of them are novices in thinking" (Mills, 2008). Since disastrous passage of the No Child Left Behind Act in 2001, which mandated standards-based educational practices and required states to devise testing devices to gauge student achievement, Hatfield's admonition has been proven to be disturbingly accurate. Since standardized testing became standard operating procedure for America's public school system, countless teachers have expressed their mounting dissatisfaction with the rigid and formulaic curriculum structures imposed on school districts by state legislatures. As an education major anxiously awaiting my opportunity to teach South Carolina's third graders, I share in the general consensus that teaching to the test is an unsustainable philosophy with far more drawbacks than advantages.
